Absolutely agree!
If you're not in the mental health field you may not have heard the term "self-care" but I am sure you've heard of the idea of taking care of yourself before you take care of others. On an airplane for instance, you're told put the oxygen mask on yourself before you help anyone else... You won't be any use to anyone if you're passed out! I love self care ... Absolutely love it! Can't get enough! When you need to balance work and home ... Self care When you need a break ... Self care When you're ready to punch someone in the face ... Self care Self care is different for everyone. What I need to do when I'm stressed and what you need to do may be totally different, but what is important is taking that time for yourself. My top ten ways to take care of me: 1. Bubble bath 2. Sleep 3. Wine 4. Exercise 5. Finish work before I leave the office 6. Cook 7. Watch something mindless 8. Walk around stores or the mall 9. Spend a weekend doing absolutely nothing 10. Vacation.
If you’re anything like me you make a New Years resolution, all the well knowing it’s not going to happen: lose weight, drink more water, drink less alcohol, work out more, save more etc…
This year I’m taking a new approach to the New Years resolution. Everything month I am going to focus on a different thing (hopefully) culminating in a year of productivity:
January: Go to the gym 10 times (with every other person on the planet)!
February: Spend more time with my husband/family!
March: Organize my home !
April: Practice self care at least once a week. !
May: Save extra $ this month!
June: Read 2 books!
July: Do one activity outside everyday!
August: Eat at home 6 nights at week (or more!)
September: Blog More!
October: Start Christmas shopping!
November: Call my friends more!
December: Be on time for everything!
There is it world! My personal plan for the year of productivity.
Welcome!
Did you ever have a moment where you stopped and thought who on earth let me do this?
Who gave me the tools, courage, or passion to do what I’m about to do?
The first time those questions crossed my mind, I was in law school. I was about to represent my first ever client in housing court. As I walked in, I thought who the hell is letting me do this? I can barely get out of bed on time, and I am going to represent this man in a court of law. No. This is not normal. I was 25 when I had this aphifany.
I’m 30 now, and it’s been a long 5 years. A blend of happy and depressing, terrifying and exciting, invigorating and exhausting. Of course I still have these momentous periods of self doubt. I think it all stems back to the fact that when I was little I could never picture myself as an adult. I couldn’t picture myself being old enough to drive, never mind old enough to enter a bar, get married, or represent another human in court!
This is what adults do. I doubt I’m the only one that thinks these things. We all know that person. The person who’s career is way more serious than anyone ever imagined. The person who surprises you ever time you see them in a suit. The person who surprises themselves most of the time.
Failing less will explore life as we know it: family, careers, decisions.
Adulting is a lot to handle, and to top it off no one warns you!
