it doesn’t take long for the sigh to spill past mico’s lips no matter what the situation was. he seemed to just carry a constant state of annoyance with him, the attitude that he rather be anywhere else in the world. truthfully, he hated being back home even if it’s a hell of a lot better for him. “must you do to that?” it doesn’t take much to complain.
leviwyatt.
levi was used to being independent, used to working hard for everything he had, though he couldn’t deny that part of him wished he had grown up like one of the rich assholes he tended to hate. his life, his existence, would have been easier from the get go if he had had money, if his family had been wealthy, accepting, better than what they were in reality. “i don’t think anyone’s working because they want to,” levi said with a shrug, “if it were up to me, i’d be downing a bottle of vodka and watching shitty cartoons right now, but i have to be here, selling books to people who think they’re smarter than everyone else.”
another deep inhale was taken, pushing some hair back out of his eyes before allowing his hand to drop back down his side and sighing out a bit of smoke. it was tempting to just go home and crack into a six pack, turn on the television and ignore whatever angry texts or calls he got about ditching work again. it wouldn’t have been the first time. “people without much depth seem to enjoy it.” ironic words coming from him. “you could probably pull off both those things while at work. half the time store clerks are on their phones.”
leviwyatt.
looking at mico felt like looking into his future, and levi wasn’t so sure if he liked what he saw. he didn’t know what the future held, really, but looking at the older man, cigarette hanging from his lips as he complained about good people told levi all he needed to know – this attitude, this feeling about the world, perhaps it didn’t go away as time went by. maybe some people would just be bitter forever, and he had to come to terms with living in a constant state of unhappiness. flicking his own cigarette to the ground, he stamped it out with his foot and looked up at his current company. “what, co-worker tell you to actually do your job or somethin’?” he said, a teasing and sly smirk on his lips.
a foot braced against the wall as he leaned back against it, taking another deep inhale and hoping that it would kick in quickly to produce a mellow so that he would be able to get through the rest of the day without stirring up much more trouble. his last name was the only thing that had kept him fired thus far and he was sure that if his older sister had ditched town like he had tried to, then he wouldn’t have even had that to get by with. “i’m not working because i want to,” he remarked with an apathetic shrug. “but unfortunately here, people don’t give me things just because they can.”
leviwyatt.
“alright, old man, calm down,” levi said, voice hard as he leant against the brick wall of the shop. he was probably due back in from his break, but he knew his coworkers had everything handled, that things didn’t fall apart without him. they’d survive without him for a couple more minutes. actually, he thought, they probably wouldn’t even notice if he didn’t come back. “me fuckin’ too. capitalism sucks.”
mico didn’t care much for capitalism, but he really didn’t care much for anything that didn’t bring some kind of immediate gratification or profit. it was the sole reason that he was where he was –– so low and his life and immature, particularly at his age. he lit the joint and brought it to his lips, inhaling deeply. the exhale came along with his words, “i don’t give a shit about capitalism. just tired of goodie two-shoed know it alls.”
leviwyatt.
it had been an unusually busy day at the pay-a-penny bookstore and, whilst levi often didn’t mind work, he needed a break. escaping from the confines of the store and the smell of new and old books alike, he made his way down the alley behind the shop, leaning back against the wall with a sigh of relief as he lit up a cigarette and took a long drag. he closed his eyes, soaking up the silence and the nicotine rushing through his airways, but it wasn’t long before he heard another set of footsteps, sensed someone else joining him. “what do you want?” he groaned, lips still wrapped around the cigarette, and turned to face his company.
avoiding work was just a part of miguel’s life in celebrations. he hadn’t really wanted to return home in the first place but there had been nothing else for him to do and nowhere else to go. even now, underqualified for the job he had only gotten through nepotism, he still took it for granted and actively went out of his way to waste time like now. there was a joint in his pocket begging to be smoked. “it’s not all about you,” he scoffed out when the younger male addressed him, fishing into his pocket for a lighter. “i just needed to get out of there before one of my coworkers made me bash a head in.”
disneyruined.
“ no ! no, no, no, no, NO ! ” a bang, a crash, and then the sound of something shattering. “ i – i am so sorry. i’ll pay for it, i promise. ”
“seriously?” a harsh scoff absconded from miguel’s throat, shaking his head. “pay attention!”
( OSCAR ISAAC, THIRTY-SIX, CIS MALE, HE/HIM/HIS ) howdy doody neighbor ! it’s nice to see you around MICO. oh c’mon, MIGUEL MENDOZA, you know i’d never forget you got that nickname because you GOT IT AS A BABY AND NEVER OUTGREW IT. you don’t think the newbies’ll catch on to the goings on around here, do ya ? nah, i’m sure you’re right. the FUCKED association will keep ‘em quiet if anything goes haywire - at least, that’s their plan. anyway, i heard you got a raise as a RECORD CLERK AT BURKE & MENDOZA ! congratulations ! i’m sure your + PASSIONATE trait will help you rise up the ranks quickly, but be careful of your - HARDHEADED nature. go on, you CATACLYSMIC, i’m sure you have important things to do today ! ( dirty ashtrays and empty cigarette packs, blasting of last decade’s top hits, blackout curtains in the morning, half empty bottles of liquor, old headshots in crooked picture frames, bare feet and dusty floors / april, twenty, she/her, cst. )
hi it’s me again this time with my fucked up baby.
trigger warnings: drug use, overdose, depression
miguel is the younger sibling of the two mendozas. they share a mother though his biological father is not the one who raised him –– instead, his mother had an affair which constantly put him on the outskirts of his family.
he grew into the black sheep role. even when their parents moved to celebrations at the beginning with the promise of it being some magical place, it didn’t matter. mico barely made it through his classes and walked across the graduation stage high off marijuana. everyone knew he wasn’t going to college despite his parents continually trying to push and bribe him into it. he was the family failure.
impulsively, mico moved across the country and got himself into acting. commercials at first before finding niche guest star roles, usually as some kind of bad guy or drug dealer. he tried to make it and didn’t. he might be a big face in celebrations but in hollywood he was nothing more than another spinning out b-lister.
when he finally got close to his big breaks, getting a supporting role in a bigger movie, he took it too far. partying and hanging out with the cast, he accidentally overdosed on heroin. this landed him in the hospital for days and was a public affair.
he was forced into rehab by his manager, mostly uninterested but going through the ropes for the sake of trying to get his career back on track again.
a second chance finally came around again, and he blew it –– again. this was one was worst than the first. his manager gave up on him. his friends cast him out. when he went through rehab the second time, he was more depressed than he had ever been in his life.
when he got out of rehab, he left hollywood and returned home to celebrations. unqualified for plenty and mostly unwilling to work, mico got his job at the law firm solely because it’s family. he’s picked up on most of it in the past two years, but his attitude is still that of a soured teenager.
Forget about prince charming. Go for the wolf. He can see you better, hear you better and eat you better.
