As for my tlh rant...

How do you fumble some of the best characters you've ever created by giving them such a lousy plot and poorly executed story. We could've had it all and instead we got Belial and Lilith war nonsense.

We could've had a character-driven trilogy, we didn't need such an elaborate and convoluted plot. I would've been more than happy to have three books exploring interpersonal relationships with the occasional plot intervention for the sake of expanding on certain themes needed for twp, but reading tlh made me feel like CC thought she needed a plot or else.

The thing is that the characters were SO amazing. The were so complex and charismatic and interesting, and their chemistry and dynamics were so rich, but by the end of chain of thorns it just felt like all of that was lost to the mess that was the story itself. There was just too much going on that took the attention away from the characters and I personally just would have enjoyed it a lot more if the focus remained on them.

Idk. All of this is just my own opinion of course, I'm sure people enjoyed it for what it was, but unfortunately it just disappointed me so bad I can't help but mourn its potential.

Actually I think I cracked the code lol my impression is that CC has been focused on twp and tlh was merely a way for her to tie some loose ends so that things in twp made sense. That's why TLH feels so... all over the place. It's like CC's heart wasn't really into it, it was more like a vehicle or device to further develop the story for twp than it was its own thing.

The fact that people don't think friendship is enough to justify characters doing insane acts of love for each other baffles me. Like have you never loved your friend so so much you want to live in their ribcage. Have you never been really weird about a friend. alright i'm going to get a little critical here so if that is not your jam that's fine and i'll see you in my next insane post anywhere from five minutes ago to eight months from now

big-picture i think the lore we currently have on jaime does not come together to form a character we can have one concrete opinion on, and not in a way that seems intentional, either. we go from cristina's story of overhearing jaime basically saying that he was going to leverage his relationship with cristina to gain control of the DF Institute and that he'd be "stuck" with her as his parabatai and [checks notes] diego saying that jaime "was born with something missing [...] some piece of his heart where compassion lives" to like, what. that he only said all that because he was drunk so we're just going to handwave all that and create a New Jaime in the middle of the trilogy who is helpful and also on the run with the eternidad for a noble cause?? cristina's relationship with him (with both rocio rosaleses, actually) is just resolved?? we get paragraphs on paragraphs of diego talking about how he's always taken care of his brother and [squints] jaime's "commitment to their family and their cause" (brother WHAT COMMITMENT? WHAT CAUSE?) ??? no one wants me to go red string board about the inconsistencies in jaime lore, so just. suffice it to say the image that we the audience are supposed to have of jaime shifted wildly from LM (guy who has no compassion??? schemed and plotted to use cristina??) to QOAAD (oh guy who is Honorable and Helpful! sure!) without sufficient proper development in that area. to your question, this is kind of a non-answer, I guess, but I think any attempt to actually decipher jaime's character, or jaime and diego's relationship within the context of canon, is doomed to fail. there just is not enough consistent information for us to do that without needing to interpret those contradictions.

aaahhh omg i’m alwayss thinking about the jaime and cristina fallout and what that means and i love that you post about it so often. truly such a crazy dynamic to me but so under utilised !! i love that you see the vision. they’re like michael and robert in a way to me but obviously entirely different because platonic relationships can be soo fucked even when there’s no romantic feelings in the mix and that’s sooo fun to think about right…

the Jaime and Cristina Of It All is so thinly developed that one feels a certain loving desire to see it enriched and thriving, like a. fuck idk. a soup i guess. (needs more carrots in the broth!!!!!!!!!)

Ah, Hazel. We will never see her again, her time with Kit was very brief, and he would not have to break up with her for Ty because he broke up with her long before TWP in romance years. But she does get a mention in TLKOF when Ty asks about her. I believe he simply wishes to know if she turned out to be a werewolf or not. :)
