Whoever sent this one in must've been in my walls because I see the "But they killed Boyd" argument so often and it frustrates me significantly. Because I feel the need to remind everyone that the season before Isaac, Erica and Boyd were 100% okay with murdering Lydia on shakey evidence just because Derek told them to. And they were clearly reveling in the task versus Ethan and Aiden, Ethan especially, looking guilty as all get out in the aftermath.

Like I'm not trying to downplay that trio's trauma, but they had relatively 'normal' shitty childhoods. Ethan and Aiden, from what the show tells us, were trained to kill and follow orders from a very young age, then passed between multiple abusive parental figures, and yet still had enough morality to turn on the Alpha Pack and risk their lives for Lydia and Derek.

And the fact some people will still coddle Peter with "bUt hE waS TrAumAtiZed" in one breath while condeming the abused teenagers in another is just...so telling.

Also, I didn't revel in Boyd and Erica's deaths or anything, but Ethan and Aiden were far more interesting and developed anyway, so that on top of everything else makes it hard for me to hold a grudge against them.

I don't love harping on this, but I can see in the other reblogs of this confession other blogs talking about how killing Boyd was an unforgivable sin, and they only existed to come in and kill Erica and Boyd and that makes them bad, and that literally everyone has more moral fiber than them.

Really. Really?!

Just a runthrough real quick:

Ethan and Aiden - two college aged young adults/teens (at the most, it's entirely possible they are actually still high school aged), who have been abused all their lives who killed Boyd on the orders of basically their abusive dad and aunt. And subsequently turned around, defended Lydia, and fought by Scott's side without hesitation for the whole Void arc.

Now let's compare.

Chris Argent - At least had some inkling that his father and sister were serial killers and psychopaths, but it took his wife dying and his daughter almost joining the psychopath family heritage for him to snap out of it and actually do something.

Peter Hale - Slaughtered a bunch of people for a crime comitted years and years earlier, along with anyone else who got in his way, traumatized Lydia, then proceeded to bsckstab them again and work with the starter of that very fire he was so keen on revenging. And also did I mention he basically SA'd a teenage Lydia? That feels important to reiterate on top of everything else.

Derek Hale - Was willing to kill a sixteen year old girl based on shaky evidence. And by extension so were his betas.

Deucalion - a body count probably in the triple digits, even if he did start working to redeem himself.

Theo Raeken - killed Scott of his own desire. Even if he was a manipulated and abused teenager, a lot of his deeds in S5 were not orders, they were choices.

Allison - Willing to torture and kill people with loose association to the possible murder of her mother (which she didn't even confirm was a murder, since Derek bit her, he didn't kill her, she killed herself).

But no, tell me more about how the Steiners are the most morally bankrupt. I'm sure it's a good faith argument.

(To be clear, I love Chris, Derek, Isaac, Theo, Deucalion, even Peter and Allison to an extent. But they are also way less moral than Ethan and Aiden)

Derek Hale- his girlfriend got killed because of the stupid manipulation by his uncle, he is a high schooler abused and groomed by a hunter who killed 11 members of his family. Instead of taking revenge, he flew with his sister.

Later his sister is killed by his uncle and cut in half by hunters. Later his betas died, he almost died, got raped by Jennifer again, lost his alpha spark to save his sister, got captured by hunters, got captured by Kate, he died, but turned young, lost his powers, again died but luckily evolved, again died in the movie. lol if you want to talk about abuse and it being an excuse

Then Derek is first in line because he has all the perfect reasons to be a villain but he didn't and chose to be a hero. So please don't even compare him with the twins.

Derek and his betas didn't kill for fun. They wanted to kill because the Kanima is taking lives and he wanted to save people.

Ethan and Aiden killed a whole pack to become alphas. Don't forget that.

I wouldn't even necessarily respond to this if it weren't for the fact I feel the need to make abundantly clear...I like Derek Hale.

Like, he's in my top ten Teen Wolf characters, I love the guy, I love his arc, he's great, my point had nothing to do with saying Derek is somehow a terrible person or character. My point was solely that Derek was willing to kill Lydia when he didn't have conclusive evidence, and his betas actively took GLEE in the idea. My only point is that they aren't moral paragons.

And I'm not really looking to play the "let's compare abuse" game, but a reminder that Ethan and Aiden either lost their parents very young, or alternatively had parents that were already a part of the violent abusive pack that then proceeded to abuse and manipulate the Steiners for their entire developmental years. Then Decualion came along, promised them a better life, and turned out to be equally as abusive if not worse. And yet despite living their whole lives with nothing but abuse, bullying, and pain, Ethan and Aiden still made the choice to fight on Scott's side and, in your words, chose to be heroes.

They are more than comparable with Derek, he himself basically said so when he saved them near the end of the season.

And as to the last point, don't pretend as though the betas' motives were altruistic. They quite literally said they would take pleasure in murdering Lydia.

Ethan and Aiden killed their, and I cannot stress this enough, ABUSIVE pack under a promise from Deucalion of a safer life, and never once in the show demonstrated enjoying killing. Aiden certainly had a sadistic streak, but even he never seemed to relish in killing enemies. And Ethan was the furthest thing from enjoying it.

So I'll willingly compare them, and make the point that they're all flawed, traumatized indivduals doing their level best. And to act as though Derek is so much better of a person than the Steiners is disingenuous and would demonstrate that you only wish to see Derek's good side and not the nuances and flaws in his character.

Lmao, believe it or not, they are serial killers. I don't hate them, I'm just saying they are my least favourite.

Derek is far better off a person than they actually are. Derek didn't want to kill his pack and gain power because he can escape abuse lol.

Derek and his betas wanted to kill a kanima, they implied they will get pleasure in that, not in killing their alpha like the twins lol.

Everyone deserves a second chance but that doesn't mean they need to be our immediate favourite because some have better redemption arc
