Part 9: I Can’t Begin to Tell You
Ocean Blue Eyes Masterlist CarryOnCap’s Masterlist
Warnings: fluff, semi-unsafe driving (not what you think, but be smart kids), slow dancing, brief car smut, lots of feels
Summary: When you return to the Avengers compound, you and Steve sneak away hoping you can put off the team’s inevitable interrogation a little longer.
A/N: After an unintentional year long hiatus, let me just say from the bottom of my heart…………my bad. Haha. Anyway, I wanted this part to be better, but I’ve been hung up on it for a while and thought it was more important to get this story rolling again than for it to be perfect. Credit to the MCU writers for a few of the lines spoken by or about Nat (I’m sure you’ll catch them!) The song featured is “I Can’t Begin to Tell You” by Harry James and Betty Grable. I wasn’t a music major, so please forgive any goofs in musical terms.

“Hey, I was doing my part. My job was to float around, keep an eye on your interactions, and take notes on anything suspicious. And if you ask me, there was something pretty suspicious about the way you two were dancing…”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” you mumbled.
Avoiding his eyes, you fixed your attention on a stray thread protruding from the hem of your shirt. You plucked at the strand, trying to make the action appear nonchalant rather than the anxious fidgeting it was. Even without looking at Sam, you knew that he was positively beaming.
“Does it look like she’s blushing? I think she might be blushing,” Clint teased.
“Tony, you’re being uncharacteristically quiet over there,” Nat observed. “You’re usually the first to join in on these kinds of talks.”
