People who genuinely think Light was truly after justice at any point in time and only got corrupted later make me laugh.
Like dude, that guy was NEVER in it for justice. Like, at all. Not even in the beginning.
He himself states during his first meeting with Ryuk that he ‘was bored too’. He killed the fake L because he insulted him. He says that the world will be populated by people whom HE deems ‘earnest, hardworking people’. His desire to be a god is stated in the literal first episode. His first thought was that he was chosen for the death note, rather than it being a coincidence that he was the one who picked it up, which hints at his arrogance even before everything happened.
It only becomes more obvious later on that he’s simply an arrogant, narcissistic child who’s bored and looking for entertainment when he intentionally starts taunting L with his actions, which gives L clues to corner him. Someone who is truly looking to make the world a better place would never do that, because they want as much freedom to do their job as possible.
Light, on the other hand, simply wanted a challenge.
AND WHEN HE KILLED RAYE AND NAOMI!!! And I’m not just talking about the fact he killed them. I’m talking about how when he killed them, he made a point to reveal himself to them in their final moments.
Literally the only purpose THAT serves is filling them with despair in their final moments as they realise the mistake they made and stroking his own ego.
LIGHT YAGAMI WAS NEVER, AT ABSOLUTELY NO POINT IN TIME, ANYTHING MORE THAN A NARCISSISTIC PIECE OF SHIT.
