The thing is, if you’re going to love her you have to love her properly. You can’t just put a half hearted effort in because she’s learnt that no matter how hard it is, she can walk away. You have to love her even when she’s in a ten minute grump (if you kiss her it’ll be okay) and you have to love her even when she’s in a grump for a week (send her flowers and chocolates, or go to hers for cuddles in bed even if she refuses them). You have to love her when she’s happy and giggly, no matter how annoying she is when she’s hyper you’ll learn that the sound of her laugh is the only thing that will get you through your darkest days. And when she’s hungry drive her to McDonald’s, or order her pizza because that will fill her tiny stomach up. When she’s in floods of tears just hold her, because your arms are the only place she wants to be. Love her properly and I promise you, she will give you her entire world.

I loved you from the second I saw you. No, I didn’t know it. But from the moment I laid eyes on you something in my soul clicked, and it remembered you. Remembered home. Remembered love from thousands and thousands of years ever burning after. My soul saw you and was lit a flame.  Today I am confronted with the holy realization that in this lifetime I have loved you for a year now. My heart skips. A year ago today I was caressing your hand, making love to the sound of your voice, waiting to be wrapped up in you like you were my own bed. I’ve never felt something more real, something more comfortable, and yet thrilling all at once.  A year ago today I fell in love again. A year ago I walked outside and into your arms and looked up. The stars were almost as bright as your smile, and when I came back to earth you kissed me. I will remember this forever. Stitch into the lining of my heart if its the last thing I do.  Tonight I am remembering my soul and your soul, how they were then, how they felt so alive, and how the feel exactly the same way now. Just with more depth. Just with a deeper plunge into the heart. But I have never felt like I was falling for so long. And I have never feared hitting the ground below me. This time I know it will only come softly, like a dream.  I’ve never loved so fearlessly, and I’ve never wanted to give someone everything, not because I wanted something back, but because I knew that they deserved it. That they were the one meant to receive it all. To write this story with me. I know that if even for a second I doubt this, and don’t keep myself open, if I don’t give this person my everything, every ounce of love within me, that I will wake up one morning knowing that I died a long time ago. I know that this is it. And if I ignore it I will be just as miserable as I was before I met you. Probably even more. This year of my life has been the most extravagant, outstanding, breathtaking journey. I cannot wait to see what lies ahead for us.  You are the map and the compass. The boat and the sea.  You are the light within me and without me. And we are one.

My therapist was so real for saying the meaning of life is found in connection.

People hug their friends when they meet up and hug them a little tighter when it comes time to say goodbye. My grandfather rebuilt the broken rocking horse my grandmother had as a child, a gift from her father. There's an indescribable ache that goes along with seeing someone you used to know intimately, the becoming of a common stranger. Coincidences that bind, one time I got an uber and the driver used to live in my home before me. It was the last place he saw his father alive as a child and he nearly cried when I told him the walls were still the same colour.

Has anyone ever gotten over their childhood best friend? Is that alone not a testament to the fact we are more than blood and bones.

It's all about connection, friends.

When someone you love offers a bid for connection, you say yes every time. When someone sends you an article, a video, a funny post, it’s a bid for connection. They are trying to connect with you. When someone shares details about their day, their life, their thoughts, or their feelings with you, that is a bid for connection. They want to connect with you on a deeper level. They are trying to pull you into their world. If you love them, you say yes every time. Yes, even if the article they send is not particularly interesting to you. Yes, even if it means listening to them ramble about a game you don’t care about and think is stupid. Yes yes yes. And let’s hope they always say yes to your bids, too.

As you get older you start doing things in reverse. You start cutting people out from your life. Your Christmas list becomes practically nonexistent. You don’t need to be the first in line for everything. You take less pictures because some memories are best kept in your heart and not your hard drive. And instead of looking for love, you dig for it from within.

I’ve learned that an open mind also opens doors. I’ve learned that common courtesy and kindness is the minimum anyone deserves, regardless of how they treat you. I’ve learned that we all have pains, But that does not mean we need to be one. I’ve learned that every day holds countless blessings, even those disguised as demons. I’ve learned that people see what they want to see.. And when we understand this, it has the potential to be such a powerful tool in life. I’ve learned that hugs are always helpful, and the ocean is natures medicine. I’ve learned that giving compliments is easier than criticising, and you can never give too many. I’ve learned that others opinions of you say more about them than it does about you. I’ve learned that when you acceptyour flaws, no one, absolutely no one, can use them against you. Your worst critic is always yourself. I’ve learned that it is impossible to please everyone; don’t try to. There will always be people who disagree or want to argue, and that’s okay. Keep your mind and heart open. And most of all, i’ve learned that I still have a lot to learn.
