This was utterly ridiculous. Yuri rubbed the top of his head, ruffling his hair in the process, as he exhaled into an aggravated growl.
“Does it look like I—… I don’t want anything to do with that nutcase, much less desecrate your damn trees by kissing him (however those two tie together), so you have nothing to worry about.”
Did he just call them damn trees? oh no he di'int *snaps fingers in Z*
Duke raised an eyebrow. "Hm. Your rejection would support a sense of apprehension, contrary to what I was under the impression of occurring; however, this is a matter in which I have no place interfering."
Duke never would have considered the idea. Turning to move away, his hair fluttered behind him. He did not want to imagine what the trees must endure later on.
flowers and hair and gigglging heehee
Yuri observed the man as the silence passed, detecting something gentle buried in those eyes of atrocious red. Could it be that something had indeed softened that gaze of his? There was a hint of a smile emerging on the vigilante’s lips at the notion, recalling the time when this very man of such few words, this very man of exquisite nature had wished to end the lives of every kindred soul in a single breath. Although Yuri assumed that what he saw now held little difference, only a devastating sadness given pause.
This provided the young man with a patience for the white-haired he rarely found for the sake of anyone else. Having held little understanding for Duke’s motives in the past didn’t matter, as their camaraderie stemmed more from a mutual conception on other levels.
“I dunno about that. It’s easy to appreciate it more now, I guess. But I don’t usually think about it.”
While Yuri was indeed sounding as though it was not a matter of importance at all times, his actions seemed to have spoken differently. He was, after all, in this place; a small reprieve of nature's beauty, tucked away from the taint of human society. There was an air about the man that Duke was able to recognize, seeing as he could find it within himself - perhaps it was pride that prevented him from admitting what he truly thought. It was, at any rate, clearly presented that at the most minimalistic level, Yuri Lowell did indeed appreciate what he had of Terca Lumireis. And this in itself was enough to place him above the rest of humanity, for perhaps to set a direction for the rest to follow.
"I see," was all he said, lifting his chin to watch the clouds float by. He could still recall the darkened, ugly glow of the Adephagos, now a phantom long replaced by shining blue skies. As long as Yuri Lowell was able to appreciate what they now had restored, all was well.
Looking back towards the ground, Duke bent down and carefully plucked a flower from its natural state, the inborn curse of his humanity tearing it asunder from its thriving life. He spun it in his fingers slowly, observing the intricate colouring of its petals as the light reflected from its form. It was, in many ways, reminiscent of humanity as a whole; extracting resources from the ground and making itself a life to live by. However, unlike a flower, the sentience acquired by humanity allowed for its diversion from such a destructive routine. This, in itself, was exemplified by Yuri Lowell, a man whose sheer determinedness was enough to change the workings of humanity at its base, simultaneously becoming one Duke would perhaps say he could trust, despite vowing never to trust another human again.
Still gazing upon the flower, he moved to speak once more. "Do not forget to reflect from time to time. Upon one look, there is only so much to be seen. The world is forever changing, and there is an importance in allowing time to observe it." He moved forward, closer to Yuri, dropping the flower into his lap. "The sunlight reflects off each surface differently. There are small changes to be seen in its appearance if held to the light differently; yet if you look but once, it would appear stagnant in its visage."
faiths-requiem replied to your post: [17:09:19] Spada: YURI AND ZAGI SITTING IN A TREE…
“Trees do not need to be desecrated by your romantic activities…”
“There’s no desecrating!”
"Your insistence does not convince me any less."
What Foolishness...

"No."
✝ Curtains down (M!A Open)
A cold morning crept up on the lower quarter of Zaphias, as the sun made its cautious appearance, caressing the city with its limbs. A young vigilante had been kept up long, anticipating its arrival where he sat by empty stairs, watching a street not quite awoken.
Why bother, he had told himself. Why keep the focus on such a distant notion? By that time, surely people would be thrilled to be rid of him. For all the trouble he had stirred, for all the responsibilities he had weighed onto himself, for the isolation and distancing of his inner being in regards to everyone around him. Indeed, there was no need to tell of the impending deterioration known to him for all this time.
For he had known.
The only problem was, there had been an increasing number of reasons as to why Yuri should let people know what was going on. He hadn’t realized just how content he had been being by his lonesome, having ghosts of the past as well as the friend he saw in Repede accompany him. No. Perhaps what he hadn’t realized was how he hadn’t been content. Comfortable. Not content. The camaraderie and trust he shared with the definite weak spots of his life had intensified the emotion brought on by this sickening fact. The fact that Yuri was going to die long before the others. Always had it been prodding at the back of his head, ‘not now’ he had forced onto it, ‘this isn’t the time’ he had assured.
But the immense threat to this world was no more. When was ever the time? Where had it gone, reminding the beckoning of his demise that tomorrow it would be over. Tomorrow.
… Tomorrow.
Should he simply lay here, vanish, no one would be the wiser as to what had occurred. Should he choose to close his eyes and pretend to breathe forever, in a world that wished to say its goodbyes to the figure who had saved it, should he place a relaxed smile on an ivory-graced face and sing his praise to the people who had made everything worthwhile, should he—
Yuri bit down, drawing a sharp breath through his teeth, his eyelids pinched down so hard it contributed to the onslaught of quivering, attempting to prevent what lay behind those eyes of casual determination before it would explode throughout his entire system and render him useless. But he had been at peace. He had been at peace! He had been aware, he would shrug and acknowledge what needed to happen and perhaps even deem it an illusion for as long as he chose to be alive. He had been content.
Or perhaps he hadn’t realized until now…
… that he wasn’t.
Tendrils of sunlight slowly crept across the quiet, sleepy land surrounding Zaphias, illuminating the grasses and trees in their morning brilliance. Yet, somehow, as Duke watched the light pour over the landscape, there was an absence of the inner peace he normally felt upon slowly watching Terca Lumireis stir. It was an unsettling, dull vacancy, one he couldn't place in any rational means of reasoning. A squirrel scuttled past into a nearby bush, reminding Duke of his own flawed, fleeting human emotions; human intuition, perhaps, one 'gut feeling' of an impending chance of something unpleasant.
He looked down to his feet, boots pressing the small seedlings of grass onto their sides, thrusting each growth's young life into the dirt below. The larger being crushing those less powerful, either by choice or by merely existing - it was sad, he thought, that even such tiny, significant lives could not be protected from the workings of the world. It did so dawn upon Duke at this point that perhaps the source of his apprehension towards the rising sun stemmed from an existence much higher than his own, possibly the shadow cast by a metaphorical boot of Terca Lumireis, hovering over the grasses of humanity. The concept of their change for the better had indeed worked itself into the entangling workings of Duke's mind, and the foreboding premonition of a darkening sky did, to some extent, bother him, seeing as the lengths gone to previously to save their tiny existence had surprisingly won the battle against the Adephagos.
In an odd rush of nostalgic memories, Duke bent down to rip a handful of grass from the soil. A remembrance of his friend, Elucifer, gently wrapping the blades of grass into a small shape. It was foolish, really; even at the time he had remarked so - and yet he found his fingers looping the grass into the same shape, for no particular reason he could place, the smell of fresh greenery pervading the air. He gazed upon the small creation, lying in the palm of his hand; a protection charm, he recalled, to allay his worries of approaching disaster - or, moreso, of a tragedy lying on the horizon. Yes; the day before Elucifer was killed. Perhaps it was that same feeling now, the unreasonable perturbedness settling in his stomach, not displaceable by any form of logical thought, that put Duke so on edge.
He began walking. It was not so much a conscious decision as one prompted by a feeling of entrapment, a man held hostage by his own festering worries; the feral need of movement finding its way into his muscles, propelling him forward without much of a thought. He soon found his direction to be that of Zaphias, the Lower Quarter lying before him; it was with a grain of salt that perhaps, he thought, were some disaster to befall the world, that Yuri Lowell would be the single person he would entrust with preventing such an occurrence from fully exacting the extent of its full potential. He had never once envisioned himself going to the man in a flurry of apprehensive emotions, and suddenly felt quite ashamed of himself for doing so in such a hurry. Yet he had already arrived, the man in question sitting on an empty flight of stairs. It was too late to turn back, and it became a question of what intentions he truly came planning to express.
Something was off about Yuri Lowell. Something misplaced, the way the sunlight did not warm his skin the way it should have; it set a ticking clock in motion, the pretense of his own calmness beginning to leave him. He approached, quietly, his left hand still clutching the small grass charm in its grip. He held it out, then, silently, a strange gesture he himself did not comprehend the meaning of. A sign of protection, perhaps, was needed more by Yuri than by himself, the same way darkness befalls those even unaware of the passing daylight.
Bare (M!A Open)
Well hey, it wasn’t someone who would cause the young man to tear off his skin in front of them, but the familiarity of that elegantly shaped face still resulted in a wince. He could feel the embarrassment, the shame, seep further into his core as he attempted to cover himself to little avail. At the very least, Duke was quiet and intimidating enough to make sure people didn’t exactly approach him with excitement, leaving some relief in Yuri’s senses.
It could have been worse.
It could have been so much worse.
So, Yuri did his best to keep himself as calm as usual, doing a pretty decent job of it too, as the atmosphere of his laid-back spirit reached his face - if only his eyebrows didn’t hint at the vulnerability, it would’ve been a much more sufficient mask.
“Now this wasn’t how I’d expect to run into you again. Hey, could you… You wouldn’t have something I could use to cover myself?”
But somehow, he doubted it would work. Any garment, or even a piece of fabric, had a way of disappearing as soon as he placed it on himself.
Duke stared at the young man, an eyebrow raised inquisitively. How he had so many curiosities relating to how this predicament might have began... perhaps another one of Yuri's far-fetched gambles had ended in the loss of his clothing? It was pointless pondering, and yet Duke could not help but wonder.
"No." Came the sharp reply, a tinge of mirth caught at the tail end. The corner of his lip was turned up ever so slightly, a complacent smirk finding its way onto the normally stoic man. How he did enjoy seeing Yuri Lowell humiliated so. Somehow, for some strange reason, he allowed his human emotions to dictate what smug motion he might take. And yet, this was no place for revenge; Yuri Lowell was also one whose hope for humanity was one not misplaced, and so with a calming sigh of fresh air, Duke gestured towards his previous route.
"However, I will assist you in escape. This way."
There would certainly be less humiliation found among the foliage of the town's outskirts, and so it was there they would be headed. However, Duke was in no rush to get there. None at all.
Bare (M!A Open)
Echoes of more footsteps heading his way sent the young vigilante into somewhat of a panic, one rarely seen due to his usual characteristics. Pressing himself against the wall, feeling its chilled surface envelop his exposed skin at the touch, Yuri drew a sharp breath as he gathered his calm and waited for the approaching steps to pass him. They did, a shudder of relief escaping the young man.
Now if he could only find something to cover himself with - true, the embarrassment would weigh heavy even with an object or two in his lowered hands, but at the very least he could sprint towards safety and see if there weren’t any pieces of clothing lying around for drying. But even as he had tried to pull something over himself, Yuri kept finding himself without it later on. Something was dreadfully wrong, he realized as he slipped around the corner, carefully so as not to step on anything sharp with his bare feet, hissing through his teeth at the problem presented and stopping at every sign of movement, every sound reaching his system. Yuri found himself having to be more alert than he’d been in a long time, and it wasn’t as if this was a life or death situation.
Was he particularly uncomfortable with his exterior? No. Would he die of shame, should someone notice him? Not at all. If they did, it would be problematic, but not the end of the world. Still, this ‘problematic’ was enough to keep him on his toes.
But just as he had gathered enough courage, gotten a little too brave perhaps, Yuri was painted into a corner as he heard another set of feet approaching. Eyes scanned all around him for a place to hide or slip out of sight, but there was nothing to be found. He contemplated simply pressing himself face forward onto the wall, but what would that do for him?
And even closer they were. Hopefully, at the very least, this person wouldn’t be someone he knew of - one shocked expression, possibly a shriek, and they’d be gone. Right?
It was with mild surprise that Duke found the town to be relatively quiet today; there was a slight breeze in the air, strong enough for the trees to rustle with nature's most pleasant sound. He did not enjoy places such as these - the wide, open fields and dense growth areas were the natural states in which living creatures were to dwell, not these dirty holes of human impurity. And yet, these human infestations of nature were so often bustling with festering taint that he found it odd for so few humans to be out today. Enjoyable, yes - it made his mandatory visitation for supplies much more bearable.
And yet, as he walked down the street, he could have sworn he heard the pattering of bare feet. Carmine orbs averted sideways, searching for the source of noise. Homeless children, perhaps? Human society at its pathetic, corrupt pinnacle of foolishness - leaving those who cannot fend for themselves to do just that. Duke sighed, heading to continue his course of of town without another thought when he saw just who was the one with bare feet.
Yuri Lowell.
To say Duke was shocked would perhaps be an understatement; even he, for how much he detested human taint, had never gone so far as to discard his vestments. He was quick to suspect that it was not a purposeful occurrence, as the discomfort on the other man's face had made so much clear. He sighed, the ghost of amusement crossing his face for the most brief of moments.
"Not even I said the natural state was to be taken in such a forward manner."
"faiths-requim is now aboard!"
Patty watched Duke as he went to leave the boat but quickly ran in front of him to block his path to the dock. “Don’t think that you land lvoer can simply wander ont my boat an just walk off, nanojya~!” She growled. “Especilly when you’ve been so cold to this pretty captain.” Patty’s frown slowly turned to a smile. “You’re my prisoner now~!” The young girl seemed pretty happy with herself as she had captures Duke.
Duke stared down at her, mildly befuddled. Did this foolish child truly believe he would be kept aboard by such crude means? It would indeed be laughable to see her try; and yet, he knew he had indeed been bested by their party on the Tower of Tarquaron. She was stronger than she appeared. And yet...
"I am a prisoner to no one." he replied, his deep voice cutting the air with its cold edge. "This is foolishness."
She seemed pleased with the idea of such an easy victory; however, Duke was not so willing to feel humiliated in such a way. If it came down to a confrontation, he would let it be so.
"faiths-requim is now aboard!"
“Nanojya…” Patty muttered as she glanced away from the man’s call glare and icy-chilled voice. However she quickly bounced back to her usual self as she brushed off the distant attitude of the man she once fought alongside her friends not too long ago. “Curiosity?” She wondered aloud looking up at him with big blue eyes. “I don’t know you seem a bit worried, bucko.” Patty placed her hands on her hips. “Not many people board my ship out of curiosity and those who do usually are looking for something, nanojya~!”
Duke eyed her pointedly, contemplating the possibility that he had perhaps wandered aboard her vessel for subconscious reasons; human foolishness, perhaps. Exasperated, he sighed and turned his back to the young girl.
"Do not assume I require something of you. You are mistaken."
If there was nothing more she had to add, he was ready to disembark. He could not even begin to fathom why he had come at all.
flowers and hair and gigglging heehee
Perched on top of a protruding rock he was, enjoying the breeze as it played with his hair and the tails of his tunic. These precious moments of relaxation had been considered rare some time ago, but now Yuri found that without a presumed curse biting at his heels, he could actually allow the simple rising and sinking of his usually exposed chest from time to time.
And this place just happened to seem ideal, with the way the vibrant colours intertwined and danced, caressing the very skies and touching the young guild man’s face with the wind in which it resided. Even as there was still work to be done, Yuri enjoyed these moments. Breathing. Who knew it would have become such a sweet luxury?
Aware of the white-haired male’s presence, Yuri only opened his resting eyes at the sound of that dominant, stern voice - while something delicate to it still - and turned slightly to greet the man with dark orbs of laid-back confidence.
“Guess I can’t argue with you there. … You’re kind of a man of nature, aren’t you, Duke?”
A gust of wind rushed by, sending the multitudinous curls of Duke's hair brushing about his face. The sweet smell of flowers in bloom reached his nose - the scent of nature at its apex - and it sent a spark through his senses like a droplet of cold water on one's finger in winter.
"I am." came his short reply, ever so characteristic of the man once set on destroying humanity; there were days where even he was glad things had turned out the way they had, for the beauty of Terca Lumireis could not be admired by those who would be dead. The delicate flowers so swaying in the breeze could not be gazed upon by human comprehension, nor could the warm draft floating aloft in the air. While the Entelexia could always appreciate such things, Duke was content knowing that he himself had the opportunity still to bask in the glory of nature's yield.
He contemplated sitting beside the young warrior; it was a random thought, perhaps one generated by the serenity of the moment, but he quickly dismissed the idea. Duke was not one to close any distance between himself and another - not even one he would label acquaintance - or, perhaps, nearly call an informal friend. Instead, he looked down upon Yuri with a softened, crimson gaze, a gentle sigh escaping his lips.
After quite a silence, his deep voice penetrated the air once again. "Though it would appear that you have come to be one yourself."
flowers and hair and gigglging heehee
The beauty of nature was exquisite and fine during the summer months; the fertility of Terca Lumireis was ever-present in the vividness of the growing season. The sun was bright in the sky, and few puffs of clouds were drifting overhead. A warm, light wind blew over the slope, gently bending the stalks of hillside flowers. The hill was covered in all shades of different colours; all blooming in full, nature in its finest and most admirable state.
As Duke stood upon this hill admiring nature's beauty, he noticed a familiar figure sitting not too far off; the man's hair was blowing elegantly in the breeze, mimicking the graceful motions of the flowers and grass. One Yuri Lowell was perhaps the only person in recent years that Duke felt a certain connection with - one built over the premise that perhaps there were others who cared for the wellbeing of the planet, those of humanity that did not taint the planet he so admired.
His steps towards the other man were quiet and swift, his shadow falling over the other as he approached.
"Admirable, is it not?"
(reblog this if you are a RP-er that don't mind people coming in your inbox and RP~)
"faiths-requim is now aboard!"
“Duke, nanojya~!” Patty exclaimed as the tall white-haired man came aboard to her ship. The young pirate swung down from her perch to stand in front of the man. “I didn’t ever expect you to come by, nanojya~!” She was in amazement that she was actually seeing this man again after everything that had happened. “What brings you here? Do you need a vessel, nanojya~?”
Duke stared down at the girl, his lips pushed taut into an unfriendly line. He had wandered aboard - how had he? Perhaps he had not been paying enough attention to his surroundings - yet, that would indeed be strange. Perhaps he was becoming ill. For what reason had he come? He was, however, aboard; he now had to deal with the repercussions of the carelessness of his actions.
"I have no need," he quipped, his cold glare descending upon the girl. "It was... curiosity."
How those words did not sit well within his stomach.
Such Foolishness...
Friendly as usually, he sees. Raven casually scratched the outside of his ear as he watched the long-haired individual. You’d think it would kill him to be a bit more friendly, his arm was gonna fall off with how much cold shoulder Duke delivered and he liked his arm just where it was. “Would it kill ya ta.. maybe smile an’ say ‘Hey how’ya doin, long time no see!’. Yeesh.” Raven’s tone dipped into heavy amounts of sarcasm.
Exasperated, a quiet sigh escaped Duke's lips. Indeed, the cheery nature of the one known as Raven was unpleasant to listen to, and moreso tedious to deal with. The frown he wore drew a flat line across his face, parting only as he closed his eyes to draw a breath.
"It would not be fatal. However, it is unnecessary. Perhaps it is you who should abstain from such pointless greetings."
it means good to see you too jk
