*stpd/osdd cusp dominant with everything traits. i usually hide my thought disorder, lack of a sense of self, and quasi-psychosis by not communicating (i like listening anyways), but if you are confused about what i say or you think my actions are incongruous with my past ideals: ask! while the quasi-ness of my delusions can be debatable sometimes, i'm always more responsive to questions. i've also gotten pretty good at rephrasing my thoughts multiple ways in my many years of living like this.
on a similar note, i try to provide image and audio descriptions of what i post as often as i can, however the aforementioned traits definitely make that more difficult. I'm always okay with people adding their own to my posts, whether that's providing one where i omitted it or expanding on what i've already written.
earthquake in the gulf of mexico near cuba last night. i've copy-pasted the usgs summary below the cut. not many people in cuba are reporting via usgs but the highest report is for "strong shaking" and "light damage"
not awful, but atypical
Key Points (updated June 8, 2026; 19:02 UTC)
A magnitude 6.1 earthquake occurred west of Cuba, beneath the Gulf of America.
The USGS assesses that there is a low likelihood that the earthquake caused damage.
This earthquake may produce aftershocks. If you feel shaking, Drop, Cover, and Hold On.
If you experienced this earthquake, please tell us about it with the Did You Feel It? survey.
Tectonic Summary
The June 8, 2026 magnitude 6.1 earthquake near the west coast of Cuba occurred as the result of reverse faulting at a shallow depth of 26 km. The faulting mechanism is consistent with the earthquake having occurred on either a northwest striking, northeast dipping or southeast strike, southwest dipping reverse fault. The earthquake occurred beneath the Gulf of America within the North America plate. An intraplate earthquake, this event occurred 400-450 km north of the closest active plate boundary between the North America and Caribbean Sea plates. Intraplate earthquakes occur within the interior of tectonic plates, and because they are far from the strains common at active plate boundaries, they occur less frequently. Intraplate earthquakes typically occur on fault systems associated with previous episodes of tectonic evolution, and that continue to accrue and release stress on long time scales compared to those located along active plate boundaries. There are no instrumentally recorded earthquakes of magnitude 5 or larger in the near vicinity of todayâs earthquake (within 250 km). This is the largest instrumentally recorded earthquake in the Gulf of America since 1950, and one of only six magnitude 5 or larger earthquakes to occur within the Gulf since 1950. In 1880, an earthquake of approximately M6.0 occurred near San Cristobal, Cuba and was felt in Florida. The 1880 earthquake led to reports of building damages and fatalities in Cuba.

The worst-sounding piece of advice I've ever been given that does actually work is to frame your health concerns as coming from someone close to you, whom you do not believe. Tell your doctor that you've been having pain and your mom/friend/partner thinks it might be an ovarian cyst, but you don't think so because the pain is much more intense and it has to be something else. This gives your doctor an unseen third party to fight instead of you. They can't just tell this third party, who isn't present, that you pulled a muscle, they now need to prove to this third party that it is not an ovarian cyst.
At which point they will find an ovarian cyst, but they now get whatever fucked up satisfaction they derive out of proving you wrong, because you didn't believe it could a cyst at all, but guess what? They did find a cyst! It's such a good thing you didn't listen to your intuition and came to them to verify your lay diagnosis from that third party! Bonus? Doctor doesn't have to feel like they look stupid in front of a patient, which is really what all this is about. Not your health, why would you think your medical diagnosis is about your health? It's obviously about a doctor's potential ego.
And apparently this works. Apparently you just need to be able to always play 4D chess with your medical professionals in order to find an avenue of advocating for yourself and getting you medical needs met. Isn't that great?
wild to me that people (including medical professionals) still refer to the monoamine hypothesis when discussing depression and antidepressants
âdepression is caused by an imbalance of these neurotransmitters in your brain, and anti-depressants fix that. no I donât have direct evidence of that imbalance being the cause. no I canât explain why these medications that change the balance very quickly still take weeks to have any effect. no I canât explain why many patients do not benefit from these at all. no I canât explain why meds that should make the balance worse do not cause depressive symptoms. you just gotta trust me.â

I watched a tiktok by a school teacher who hasn't assigned any homework in 12 years a few days ago and I'm still thinking about it because she made some great points. I'll link it here but it's in German.
I'll go ahead and summarize the arguments she made as to why she thinks homework sucks:
It doesn't actually promote self-sufficiency. Kids who don't struggle with organization and discipline at school will also not struggle with their homework, but kids who do struggle at school and need more help will also struggle while trying to get anything done at home.
It's inherently unfair/unequal. Children's home situations are so very different, some kids have their own desk and computer in a quiet room and at least one parent around who has the time & knowledge to help them plus the financial means to hire a tutor, while some children don't even have their own room and their parents might not be around or lack the education and means to be of any help at all.
AI exists and can be used to do almost all homework and most kids use it.
Assigning and checking homework and enforcing consequences when students don't do it is a waste of class time and creates an unpleasant atmosphere.
And also a very important point that many people in the comments made based on their experiences as both students & parents of students:
In addition to being a huge stressor for children and bad for their mental health, it also puts a lot of strain on the parent-child relationship. In cases where a parent already has a tendency to be abusive, conflicts over homework can quickly escalate and lead to abuse, which can then cause trauma around learning itself.
imo the way you feel about groups it's fully socially acceptable to hate (like children or polyamorous people, among others) is the canary in the coal mine for underlying bigoted beliefs. if you're only supportive of marginalized groups when it's cool to do so, probably you don't actually care about marginalized groups, you care about other people thinking you care
there are 1 trillion people in the notes of this post saying "yeah! i mean i hate kids but they should have rights!" you hate kids? you mean you hate all members of an oppressed group solely for their membership in this group? right. why do you hate them? because they can't take care of themselves and need help? because they don't understand social norms and can be "annoying" and disrespect boundaries as a result? because they can be messy? because they don't understand things in the same way as you do? that's awesome. how do you feel about disabled people btw
Palestinian women share with men this role in the armed struggle.
[âŠ]
We run our suicidal operations, they attack us from airplanes. Itâs easy to fight, using aviation when one is up against simple armed Fedayeen. They attack us with American and French airplanes. Itâs not just Israel whoâs at war with us, but also the United States and France and all the other countries. Weâre not afraid of Israel. We fight at broad daylight, face to face. The coward ones fight with their aviation. The brave ones fight on foot to free their land.
[âŠ]
And if thereâs a political (two-state) solution?
There wonât be any political solution. The only thing there will be is Palestine. As long as thereâs at least one of our children left alive, there wonât be any political solution. There will only be Palestine, in its entirety.
I also think that the strength gap is at least partially manufactured women would in fact be stronger overall if little girls were encouraged to do physically taxing games and activities and eat their fill while theyâre growing vs having to constantly diet and be sedentary indoors (or god forbid do intense cardio while under-eating). The amount of adult women honestly afraid to lift weights bc they think theyâll get bulky as though bulking isnât a full time job that athletes have to spend all their time on and anyone on earth gets shredded from just using their adult muscles for their intended purpose, girl your bone density đ„
if you say women are intentionally nerfed from birth in 2026 people look at you like youâre insane and start condescendingly telling you about how women are just better at different things (but not during their periods haha) but this was a completely basic feminist talking point I grew up with like âgirls can do it too! [shot of little girls climbing and running with boys]â nickelodeon commercial tier base level I hate it how is everyone suddenly dumber than the average 7 year old
just like cop shows love engineering scenarios where they can go damn we would have caught the serial puppy killer by now if only police had even more money and power, doctor shows love engineering scenarios where they can go damn we would have solved every problem with this patient's body by now if only patients weren't so pigheaded and lazy and entitled and dishonest
Help Tawfiq and His Children Escape the Trauma of War
My name is Tawfiq Al-Tatri. I am 40 years old, a father of five, and a survivorâbut survival here in Gaza is not truly living. My children and I have lost everything. Our home, our safety, our communityâgone.
We now live in a refugee camp, crammed inside a fragile tent, shivering through the freezing nights, unsure where we will be tomorrow. We have been displaced over and over again, fleeing destruction, heartbreak, and loss. My home was bombed with my family inside. By some miracle, we survivedâbut so many of our neighbors and relatives did not.
As a father, my only mission now is to protect my children, to give them a future beyond war and suffering. I dream of getting them to safety, away from the fear that haunts their every step. But I cannot do it alone.
That is why I am reaching out, with hope in my heart, asking for your kindness. Your support can help us cover the costs of leaving Gaza for Egyptâgiving my children a chance at life, at healing, at simply being children again.
Please, if you can, stand with us. Help me save my children from the trauma of war. Every donation, every share, every prayer brings us closer to safety
Thank you from the depths of my heart.
