Steve Harrington is in EVERY campaign Eddie has ever written. He’s been the villain, the jester, the tavern wench, the damsel, the knight, even the treasure and reading back through his campaign notebooks, Will Byers has just become the first person to realise it.
Steve knowing that Eddie’s just joke flirting with him like he does with everyone and so he makes sure to keep his crush hidden. Because if Eddie found out he was dumb enough to actually think it meant something then he’d stop flirting with Steve out of respect. And Steve really loves those minutes where he can pretend to be the object of Eddie’s affection for a minute
Vampire!Eddie who's been around for a few decades takes recently turned Max under his wing because he just can't stand the idea of leaving her alone and vulnerable out there, without anyone to guide her in her new life.
The sudden kindness is surprising enough by itself, but what surprises Max the most is Eddie's human mate, Steve, who Max meets when they get to the vampire's place.
Max's surprise turns into pure amusement when she notices how whipped Eddie is for his mate. A simple human Steve may be, but the way Eddie turns into an excited puppy, ready to follow every order and eager to please his mate doesn't leave any doubt about who's the real boss around there.
Max almost chokes from laughing one day when she catches Steve scolding Eddie because he left his bloody clothes in the living room and stained the cream colored couch.
Steve did cross-dressing once for Halloween after losing a bet to Tommy. Because he never did anything in half, he'd asked for Carol's help and gone all out on his outfit.
Needless to say, everyone had had a good laugh (and sexual crisis) that night, and Eddie Munson had gone home questioning everything he'd ever known about himself.
Sometimes, when Eddie remembered that most of Jonathan's artistic films were made with Steve in mind, he had to sit there for a moment to let it sink in that all this time, the one he needed to be cautious of had never been Nancy Wheelers, but Jonathan Byers.
"You love him don't you?" Wayne whispers, breathy, quiet, his voice cracking around the edges of something that feels like raw emotion.
It's then that Eddie turns his gaze away from Steve to look at him, the light never fading from his eyes and the smile never wiping from his face.
Steve's sitting on the trailer floor, in the middle of the living room, Eddie's clothes hanging from his body as he flips through one of Eddie's many monster manuals. Wayne knows the boy would never admit it, but he's just as interested in D&D as the other kids. He's helping Eddie plan his next campaign for christ sake.
Next to Wayne, two cans of coke in hand and a love struck smile on his face, Eddie nods, his cheeks darkening as his smile ever so slightly fades. "Is that okay?" He asks, looking all the bit nervous as his eyes roam Wayne's face.
"More than okay Son."
Eddie's smile brightens once again and if Wayne notices the small amount of tears welling in his eyes, he says nothing about.
"You ever going to tell him?" Wayne continues, nodding in Steve's direction, the boy still oblivious to the conversation being whispered behind his back.
"I don't know if I can."
Wayne says nothing to Eddie's reply as he watches the boy return to the living room where he sits down next to his best friend. Steve smiling bright as the sun upon Eddie's return.
Months go by and Wayne gets to watch as Steve falls too. It's there and so obvious to anyone but Eddie.
His eyes linger and his smile never fades. Soon Wayne sees as he sits a little closer and his cheeks grow a little darker.
There's moments when Wayne catches what he can only describe as a love struck expression across Steve's face. Eddie's talking, because when is he not, and Steve's there, eyes wide and locked onto Eddie's ever changing expression.
He looks fond. Fond in a way Wayne's never seen anyone look at his nephew.
There's moments when he sees Steve hesitant. Moments when he and Eddie are so close and Steve's hand twitches like it wants to reach out. Moments when Steve looks like he wants to lean in but bites his lip and turns away with rosy cheeks.
It's nearly a year into their friendship when Steve's standing at Wayne's side and whispers, "I think I love him."
"Tell him," Wayne answers easily, leaving out the 'please' he so desperately wants to tack onto the end of that sentence.
Please, he thinks again as he watches Eddie turn to face them from across the yard, a smile so beautiful Wayne thinks it's the first time he's seen it on Eddie's face. The boy's elbow deep in his van as his cheeks grow a little pinker as he says with a smile, "Stevie come here for a sec."
Steve leaves, but not before whispering back to Wayne, "I think I will."
No more than a week later Wayne comes home to find the boys on the couch, Steve sleeping and curled into Eddie's side, snoring with his nose pressed to Eddie's neck.
Wayne offers his boy a smile as he stirs from the sound of the door closing. He looks tired, arms tightening around Steve's waist as he smiles back and burrows closer, kissing the top of Steve's head before drifting back off.
"He loves me," Eddie says one evening, weeks down the road, a rare occasion when Steve isn't over and Eddie's actually home.
Wayne smiles, his heart so warm and full as he says, "I know."
Steve's been over for a few weeks now. Part of Wayne's convinced he's moved in, what with the new additions to their fridge and bathroom vanity. The idea doesn't upset him in the least.
He's gotten to witness their love grow during that time anyway.
He's gotten to witness the way Steve kisses a grumpy Eddie good morning until he finally smiles.
Or the way Eddie lights up when Steve's arms wrap around his waist and he whispers an "I love you Eds," that Wayne isn't sure if he's supposed to hear.
Or the way they giggle and kiss and love one another in such a beautiful and uninhibited way.
Granted too, sometimes that means Wayne's hears a bit too much. Eddie would be mortified to know there's been far too many occasions in which Wayne's had to leave the trailer to escape the gasping breaths that occasionally pour out from under his bedroom door.
Though this time, Wayne's inside as the boys are on the roof smoking and he thanks the lord above that all he can hear are the faintest of whispers.
There's only parts of the conversation that he catches, but his heart swells when he hears Eddie's voice so clearly say, "I'm gonna marry you someday Steve Harrington."
Wayne cries the day Eddie shows him the ring.
And cries even harder when Steve shows him his.
Steve's hand is shaking where the single golden band lies on his ring finger, Eddie standing directly behind him, arm around his waist with a smile that matches Steve's in the way it resembles Sunshine.
They can't marry, not legally anyways. But that doesn't stop Jim Hopper from officiating a ceremony or Joyce Byers from walking Steve down the aisle.
The backyard to Hoppers cabin is filled with faces Wayne has grown familiar with over the years. Young and old, smiling and crying all the same.
Dustin and Robin both write speeches, both as rambling and as funny as they are beautifully heart wrenching.
There's not a dry eye in the house.
The boys move into an apartment where they build a life together.
Wayne visits often for meals or a cup of coffee in the mornings, still delighting in the way his Eddie seems so wonderfully overcome with love and affection.
He'd thought he'd shed enough tears for his lifetime at the wedding, but one evening, sat at the table with Robin Buckley and his boys, Wayne finds out he's gonna be a grandpa.
The idea that Eddie is stronger than he looks is fun.
There's nothing else to it.
He doesn't have the stereotypical "jock muscles" that he teases Steve about and very much resembles a gangly, floppy-muppet creature (especially in the midst of his cafeteria speeches and other such performances). But he's not weak!
And everyone gets their own taste of what that means.
Exhibit A: The Party
Eddie will absolutely haul the children around with the same ease he hauls his laundry bag around (he is SLIGHTLY more careful with the children because they bruise easier than his laundry bag). If they're being particularly unruly, they're going over the shoulder to get the potato sack treatment.
Whenever they need to set up a space for D&D from scratch, Eddie's the one doing most of the heavy lifting. He brings the most stuff (from gear for the actual game to the snacks) and deals with the tables and chairs.
He is the only one allowed to move his throne. He's the only one who knows exactly where it goes for the best effect.
Exhibit B: Corroded Coffin
Similarly, there's a lot of heavy lifting. Eddie and Grant (the unnamed freak in CC) are the only ones who can lift their band's amps on their own. Gareth and Jeff need to work together, or have help from Eddie and Grant.
He has carried each of them at least once after rescuing them from bullies or for the heck of it (this mostly applies to Gareth since he's still short enough that his feet dangle when Eddie lifts him up).
No one talks about it out loud, but they know Eddie's had to defend his "territory" in the woods on more than one occasion. Being a known dealer in Hawkins has never been as easy as he makes it look.
Exhibit C: Jocks
Eddie's not an inherently violent person, necessarily, but he will and has absolutely thrown down to defend his sheepies. And unlike Steve's track record with human opponents, he's won enough fights to make even jocks like Jason Carver nervous.
He's not afraid to get loud, he's not afraid to bear his teeth, he's not afraid to get in people's faces. No punches actually need to be thrown for jocks to get the idea.
His metal rings have left their marks on certain offenders. The smart ones have healed, but those stupid enough to keep going? Well, at least they'll always have a fun conversation starter when they meet new people.
Steve's not the only one who's been thrown against a wall. He's just one of the few who Eddie willingly let go before the fight was finished. He's also the only one who's walked away relatively unscathed.
Exhibit D: Steve
Eddie refuses to let Steve carry the grocery bags. Even if they're preparing a party that involves all of their friends and their families, and end up buying a quarter of the store to accommodate everyone, Eddie will fight Steve when it's time to get the groceries back to the car. He insists that they maintain the foundation of equal trade--Eddie handles the bags, Steve handles the food later on.
He despises Steve's morning runs, and makes sure Steve knows it. He will cling to Steve the night before and refuse to let up, even when still under the enchantment of sleep. It's only when Steve uses all his might to try and escape that Eddie finally wakes up--no alarm clock needed anymore. Whether Steve proceeds with his run or not depends heavily on his skills of persuasion that day. He's found that bribery usually works best.
Eddie will regularly trap Steve in blanket burritos when he feels like Steve is running himself ragged or notices that he's especially stressed. He's the only one who can get Steve in the blanket and the only one who knows how to secure it so that Steve can't get out on his own.
Steve might be The Party's resilient knight, but he's Eddie's fair maiden. And Eddie treats him accordingly. He loves scooping Steve into his arms with loud declarations of adoration, spinning him around, and then settling him on his lap. Bonus points if Steve ends up falling asleep--it warms Eddie's heart that Steve trusts him enough to NAP in his presence when he's usually too worried about everything to randomly fall asleep.
He will carry Steve to bed if they stay up late watching a movie, or Steve needs some time to come down from a nightmare. That includes braving the stairs with so much care that Steve doesn't realize he's been moved until the next morning.
(If he and Steve had been together during the latter's encounter with Billy Hargrove, or even just friends, Eddie would have left Billy with a permanent limp for laying his hands on Steve and Lucas.)
Some NSFW prompts
Eddie likes pinning Steve against the wall when they make out. He likes it even more when Steve lets Eddie hold him completely--jumps up and wraps his legs around his waist and everything. It feeds his ego to know that he's the first of Steve's partners who can pick him up and hold him where he wants.
When given permission to manhandle Steve around during sex, he doesn't hesitate. He TAKES it. He loves the way Steve moans and whines and tries to grind back into him at Eddie's show of strength. Just as much as he loves watching Steve's blush extend past his face and travel down his body.
He likes holding onto Steve hard enough that his fingerprints leave bruises. His fingerprints on Steve's ass have been a favorite between the two. Hawkins isn't a safe place to be out, but Steve likes physical reminders that he's with Eddie to substitute not being able to freely take him out on dates or commit to his usual grander romantic gestures, and Eddie will leave his mark any way he can.
Steve and Eddie roleplay in the bedroom they were together in high school, and Eddie moans in Steve’s ear that condoms are so uncomfortable, “come on, baby, don’t you wanna feel all this?” as he puts Steve’s hand on his crotch.
Steve whimpers and gives in immediately since he’s in love.
Obviously, Eddie knocks him up and Steve insists upon telling him like he’s nervous about telling his boyfriend that they’re teen pregnant.
They’ve been married for two years. They have a mortgage.
Eddie opens his eyes and wishes he hadn't. He really doesn't want to deal with his surroundings right now. Because he's pretty sure he knows who that head of hair blocking his vision belongs to and he just - he doesn't have it in him, okay? Not now, not ever.
Dealing with the, still kind of high, walk of shame would be bad enough, but to do it from the guy he's in the middle of saving the world with, who he's sharing living arrangements with at the radio station so the walk of shame is not as much of a walk as it's fifteen steps, now that. That he can't take.
Steve stirs before Eddie could panic his way out of the bed.
Eddie lies there, frozen, as he witnesses Steve come to the same realization as him as he wakes. Steve's arms freeze mid-stretch and his back (his back, holy shit) goes rigid. The back of Eddie's brain notes the tone of muscles for later use, because he's sure he'll never be seeing it again after this.
They got really high last night. Like, really, really high. And they don't like each other! Not like that! They're friendly 'cause they have to be, and because they're in the middle of the whole saving the world thing together, and there's Dustin - oh god. Dustin' s not gonna let them hear the end of it if this fucks anything up between them. How could Eddie have been so stupid?! How could he let himself -
Steve arm drops behind him and hits Eddie's hip, searching around for a beat and then gripping onto the covers over Eddie's waist. Eddie freezes, eyes wide. Steve's not moving either.
"Eddie? That you?", Steve's voice is low and scratchy with sleep. Eddie has to take a few moments to compose himself, blink, lick his lips and finally mutter a pathetic little: "Yeah."
"Oh thank god"
Steve flops over himself without letting go of Eddie, struggling for a beat and then they're nose to nose. Steve's smiling, a little crooked.
"Man, I felt someone behind me and got scared for a second there."
Eddie swallows like this is normal.
"Who'd you-uh. Who'd you think it was if not me?"
Steve's brows twitch.
"No one else really around here to be but you, man."
"Oh. Right"
Eddie's disappointed. This is the best possible outcome he could've hoped for - Steve was just letting out some steam and was cool enough with Eddie to use a guy for that - and he's still disappointed. He's not attacking you or pretending he doesn't remember, take the win.
"I didn't mean it like that!" Steve hurries to babble at his frown.
"Not in like, you're the only person available way - well I mean you kind of are, but not-", Eddie stares at him open mouthed, "It's not only that for me! I - I mean, I guess it looks like that but, I actually think you're really hot, and - not that I don't think you're also a good person, I do, I just think that - I'm kind of bad at explaining myself, but yeah, you're hot and we're here and I think that - hey could you say something and stop me from further embarrassing myself?", Steve pants.
"I like you."
Now Steve's the one gaping.
"Oh."
"Yeah." Eddie wasn't gonna blurt it out like that, but Steve's little speach must have activated his own brain to mouth filter to dissappear.
"... Sooo. What now?"
Eddie shrugs.
They stay quiet long enough to become awkward and then Steve jumps and grabs Eddie's shoulders: "Holy shit, I like you too! Sorry!"
Startled, Eddie stares at him like a fish.
"That was supposed to be the point of my little speach and I just realized I barely called you hot! Eddie, I like you. And I wanna see where we could take this", he takes Eddie's hand between his own (and his hands really are as big as he thought last night, hello). If you want that, too?"
Eddie looks him in the eyes and brushes away a strand of hair with his free hand.
"So you think I'm hot?"
Steve blinks at him, a little bitchy.
"Yeah. I do."
A grin spreads over Eddie's face and he cranes his neck to check the clock behind Steve.
"I wanna see where it goes, too. But for now, we have two hours before everyone else gets here. Show me how hot you think I am?"
Overprotective Max who's been good friends with Eddie until he starts dating Steve.
That's her beloved babysitter. The older brother she always wanted to have.
Anyone who wants to date Steve must prove themselves worthy of his affections, no matter if it's a stranger or someone Max's been friends with, like Eddie.
Eddie never thought he'd have to earn a fourteen-year-old's approval first in order to date Steve.
