The smooth ash clouding his lungs filtered out through his lips on his exhale. Because he didn’t like standing in front of people who were sitting, he took a seat across from the other.Doubt and suspicion filled his own jade eyes as he looked at the other. One of those things seemed like a lie. But he didn’t push the issue. Sometimes skeletons should stay in the closet. ⸥

◤ ❝Well then maybe it’s not decency but pity, ❞ Jayden retorted sharply at the other one’s remark. he had little hope for the human race and how they behaved. there seemed to be more nature to caring for oneself than reaching out for those around them. the whole topic had him agitated, skin crawling from annoyance that this topic had even surfaced. the more he dwelt on it the more he was reminded how much he was growing to despise others. that just made him just as faulty as the way he saw every other human being but at any rate, he had only seen the darkness that seemed to bubble within every soul.      he eyed the cigarette that was brought to the man’s lips. there was the slightest expression of disgust, nose subtly crinkling up at the scent. he shuffled slightly to the side to avoid having a whiff but that didn’t seem to offset the other as they joined him. his head turned, gaze locking on anything that wasn’t the man before him. it didn’t help to avert his gaze when undoubtedly he had thrown in a ‘soft’ lie. ❝ Is there a reason you’re hangin’ around... I don’t got anything to pay you back with... ❞ Jayden’s nerves were growing. even if this man had given him something to eat, he still hadn’t any idea who he was or if he desired anything in return. the worst was that no matter who he faced in these territories, he would always be their enemy. he was simply lucky that this town hadn’t pointed fingers and called him out as an escapee. ◢

The Seven Sinners War - Part 4

❝ Weeks passed and after bugging him day after day, I found out he wasn't any of those. We started to skip classes together and do the dumbest shit. There were these railroad tracks near our school, right? We'd often play by them. And one day I bought some rope. "Hey, hey, Isaac, remember when we talked about Death?" Death was just another word for Satan, since no longer was anyone allowed to say the devil's name. "I think I know how we can finally see him. Wanna make a DEAL with the DEVIL?" I didn't really know how. I just knew Isaac always wanted to get back at his bullies even if he said nothin' aloud. While I, on the other hand, had watched too many late night horror movies. I suckered Isaac into being the damsel in distress, tying him to the railroads, using the kind of slipknots that we used on the cattle back at the farm. Easy for anyone to undo except the victim, the more the hostage were to struggle the worse. It wasn't a big deal, it wasn't as if the train came by often; in fact, I couldn't recall the last time it ran. “Don't worry, as soon as I hear the horn, I'll come a'runnin'!" I promised him. I had told him I had to be outta sight or Death wouldn't show. I don't think he believed me... I think... I think he was hoping that I wouldn't come back. 'let Death take me' his eyes had pleaded but silence was all I heard. I hid away, determined to forge a stronger bond by proving him that I wasn't like the others. Until my bitch-principal showed up. ❞

He made three mistakes seconds before discovering the presence of another nearby. 

один: Fed the curiosity.

Part of the reason for his curiosity in abandoned neighborhoods was there was a chance it wasn’t fully abandoned. The Russians were especially big fans of turning apartment buildings into underground fortresses to deal with their criminal activities and so naturally, Silas had simply wanted to take another look at the muted tipped over masonry.  His gaze narrowed speculatively at the string of overturned stone, the buildings barely balanced on their foundations. It was unlikely, but very possible, still.

два. Slowed down escape

With the sky gradually darkening overhead, it would be natural that escaping via with wheels would be preferable to a pair of stumbling feet. The clicks originally had sounded soothing to his ear before they halted and calm breaths overtook the silence that followed.

три. Lingered in the dark.

His sight wasn’t the best and it was a disadvantage to be anywhere which lacked light. While he did have his hearing and sense of smell with him, it also depended on his state of mind, which,-

The sound of fumbling from within the nearby vehicle had Silas pack pedaling quick, gears on the bike clicking rapidly as he moved. His first thought was some sort of wild creature had made use of the abandoned setting, and as the other emerged, Silas could see he wasn’t entirely wrong. The flicker of light, a beacon in the rapidly approaching dark, unfortunately was too much for his eyes and the tailor ducked his head, using the bring of his hood to shield his sensitive eyes from the aggressive rays. Tentatively, a hand rose to help against the light.

His eyes would remain squinting even as he attempted to take in the other form - male, defensive.. in what appeared to be military fatigues? Immediately the tabs of possibilities ran through endless scenarios as Silas attempted to keep the other within his sights. One hand braced the center of the handlebar of his bike while the other hand hung reassuringly by his side. If there happened to be some form of fire arm on the soldier, Silas was soon to be a dead man. It wouldn’t be the first time he would have a gun pointed at his face, but one never got used to it. He never liked guns.

An unfeeling index finger brushed against the waist seam of his trousers, lingering on the concealed sheath which held one of his thumb daggers. Fight, flee, forget? He worried his lower lip while juggling between his options, pink tinted hues unmoving from where they pinned the other with a wary stare. His head remained lowered in attempts to keep most of his features hidden with the broad hood of his cloak.

He willed his stutter to be less apparent, but there was no hiding it fully; however he sounded confident enough through the quiet. “Wh-What are you doing h-here?”

◤ breath caught within his constricted chest, eyes wide like saucers as he gaped at the stranger a distance apart from him. neither of them moved. not a falter within their stance. they merely stood still, statues in the mixtures of puce, salmon, and coral that painted the abandoned city life. in that moment, silence hung and the air was frozen. the light projected from the device remained glaringly on the stranger, revealing all that was need to be seen. all that there was for Jayden to flee the scene and yet his body remained locked, unmoving, while he lacked oxygen from the drawled out confrontation. he couldn’t break away, he couldn’t even conjure a single thought while his heart pulsated like thunder in his eardrums. it was the slightest of movement that caught his attention. locked gaze broke, flashing toward the direction of the man’s hip. countless weeks, months and perhaps years, had him prone to searching for signs of danger. this was one of them. the hint that the wanderer possessed a weapon, concealed within fabrics. thoughts began to race, a waterfall of them as they had all piled up over the fleeting seconds. he couldn’t begin to understand why the man’s hair was of ivory, nor why his irises were of amaranth. the most questionable was why this man had ventured to these parts and appeared to posing a threat despite these parts being abandoned. the mere thought that someone would travel to such lengths to put an end to the awol soldier made his stomach churn. his chin jerked up at the first note of sound. inhale scraping into his hollowed lungs, the pit in his stomach sinking further. the man’s stutter had gone completely overlooked, unnoticed by the youth who was barely breathing. the stranger’s inquiry could only mean that he wanted him gone, that this was forbidden territory and he was treading on his enemy’s grounds. gaze traveled to the right of him, head turned slightly as he swept a scan over his surroundings. everything belonged to the enemy. where was he to go if he couldn’t even rest in the places that civilization scarcely meandered into? ❝ I... was just leaving... ❞ he weakly responded, keeping his vision astray. the flashlight having lowered to his side, the direction of the beam now slanted across the cracked concrete. a sidelong look was given to the man before he started to carefully take steps backward. he didn’t want to lose sight of him while he was still in danger of whatever weapon he held. though as he continued to back away, a glance was given toward the blanketed vehicle. there were many precious items that served for survival tucked away in the nooks and crannies of it. all would be lost if he didn’t get a chance to retrieve them, however, he kept his mouth closed. one step at a time, he distanced himself if the other allowed him to. ◢

                        IT’S NOT EASY BEING A PRINCESS.

       A small pout was quick to show on feminine features, emeralds practically glued onto the other male by now. Were they declining, or did he perhaps just have to try a bit harder? Well, it was only in his nature~. “Ah— but ser…we don’t have to sleep! Not if you don’t want to…we could stay up all night, ser~.” The last part rolled off his tongue in a playful purr, eyelids lowering a bit.     And with that, would the Russian carefully and slowly scoot himself a bit closer to the other male, a grin captivating pink lips. And once he felt close enough— though still opting to give the other some distance— would slender frame lean in just a bit, free hand roaming up to twirl at blonde strands of hair. “How long has it been since you’ve pleasured yourself, ser? I could do it for you~.”

◤ he noticed how the other didn’t take to his offer. the beginnings of a frown traced onto those rosy lips causing Jayden’s vision to slide away. gaze dropped to his boots planted on the concrete, he leaned forward only to loosely wrap his arms around his bent legs. feet tilted outward, allowing the worn soles of the boots to be seen. the mere idea of getting some new attire occured to him though a luxury it was; something not within his reach nor all that important. he was striving to scrounge up distractions. it wasn’t often he spoke to ‘females’ and it was making him nervous. he forgot just how powerful a pout was when they portrayed it.      ❝ I’m... ❞ he sideways glanced at the other, only catching a glimpse of radiant blond locks. ❝ ... starting to get the idea you aren’t... cold, ❞ his voice had quieted to a mumble. his assumption now floated into the open air between them. a pause given before he inhaled deeply, ready to say something more when he had looked over to see the blond inching closer. his body automatically tensed, rigid were his movements and hands dropped to grip the curb. every fiber in his being was prepared to flee but he hesitated long enough to be drawn in by the twirl of ‘her’ finger playing with locks of gold.      eyes closed tightly before widening; did he just hear 'her’ clearly? baffled, utterly stupefied by ‘her’ question. ❝ Ah heh... I--I don’t think... I’m...  that’s... y--you don’t even know my name! ❞ he scrambled for the right words before stumbling to his feet. so much for making his quick getaway. he couldn’t believe his ears, he hadn’t even anything to offer. he had heard of prostitution, typically to earn money to survive but clearly he hadn’t anything to give. ❝ You... you didn’t slip something in that bread did you? ❞  ◢

◖”Mm…” The other’s remark was responded with a court nod of her head. It didn’t seem to affect her that much since his words weren’t as offensive as the ones aforementioned. The motion she had created with her hands was to be less apprehensive; nevertheless, it did not seem to be of much help since with each squeeze, scratch and nails digging between her knuckles, a twinge of pain would begin to course through her frail hands—that, however, did not mean she stopped, pain was the least of her worries right now, she needed to put her focus on something or else the fear would have swallowed her whole. The moon was covered by the trees and Colette could barely stand the darkness due to often having ‘hallucinations’, or so her parents used to say, but she knew that wasn’t the case; after all, she was an afterlife magnet. Hopefully, now that she was in the presence of a human, they’ll stop pestering her. It always happened when she was alone; they would approach her and ask for answers, but sadly she didn’t have the answers they wanted to hear.

Accepting other’s offensive words was part of something she was used to, thus, she didn’t mind it that much, but it didn’t mean it did not hurt, in fact, calling her useless, was very painful, but she had no desire to upset him by commenting about it; men were frightening beings, one wrong movement or sentence and it would all be over, that’s how her eyes saw the men that stood before her, but, she still tried to not see him in such a way. “Ah! N-No!” Her voice was slightly raised at the other’s sentence, perhaps higher than she had intended. “T-the l-lady was very n-nice, maybe she t-thought I could t-take care of m-myself.” Part of it was true. However, it wasn’t just a ‘lady’, there were plenty others traveling with her and most of them were part of the army. It didn’t seem like the best course of action to mention it since, given his appearance, he could be a fugitive. Colette was quite sharp even if her attitude and mannerisms could often not depict her as such. Her apology went ignored—not that it was surprising, really. It didn’t seem she would get an ‘it’s okay’ or ‘everything is going to be fine’ from the stranger, he just didn’t seem the type.

Trust was always easily put on strangers ( regardless of gender ) because she was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, not all men ( or women ) were bad after all, but that didn’t mean her fear would stop. She trusted him even after those coarse words of his due to believing that he, perhaps, was scared too and that attitude was merely to avoid it all—though she could be wrong.

After the other had, quite forcefully taken the supplies from her grasp, she could finally breathe. The numbness on her legs made her fall to her knees and thus, she slowly began to recover her composure. How… scary. It was only for a moment, but she indeed felt rough skin grazing against the tips of her fingers. That nearly made her faint, she couldn’t take it, not the touch of a man. A forced chuckle would leave parted tiers after the other’s statement—she tried to breathe properly, even if it was being slightly difficult to do so. “I—I—I’m… n—not… g-good with…” In and out, in and out, she would take her time to breathe. Did he not figure it out already? Her behavior was quite obvious, how could he not have noticed? Her words came in slow intervals, she was having a huge difficulty speaking. If it weren’t for the fact that they were completely alone in a dark and vast jungle, then perhaps, she would have calmed down quite fast. “W—with… me-…me—n. T-the-they sc-scare m—me.” Instead of being able to stand, she just felt weaker and sad. Her frame would lay on her side feeling the humidity of the ground. She wanted to cry again, but she was trying to suppress it. “I—I’m so—sorry… I’m j—just not n-normal.” Far from it, really.◗

◤ PATHETIC. if there was one word that could describe him, it would be exactly this. the girl before him was in shambles, trembling as though she stood on stilts in the midst of a windy storm. and here he was, insisting that he have a scrap of food from her. for all he knew, that was the only morsel of nourishment she carried on her behalf. even as these thoughts crossed his mind, he couldn’t bare to decline. the sight of food outstretched to him, offered in plain view, he had to swallow as he began to salivate. every inch of his form wanted to react suddenly, to snag the food and move a distant apart like a wild animal might. however, he contained his behavior and only swiped the food apart from her when it was within reasonable distance. as soon as he had, he watched as the girl folded in on herself, collapsing before him.      to give her the space that she seemed to desire so desperately, he carefully took a few paces backward. he didn’t know who she was and although she appeared feeble, harmless even, he wouldn’t risk the chance of anything going awry. with a prized possession at hand, he brought it to his lips but even as tiers parted, he hesitated. a sigh escaped him, the exhale dusting over the sustenance that he craved. lowering the food once more, though still gripped within his bony fingers, shoulders relaxed as he listened to her stammering responses. eyelids lowered, vision slipping to the soil before his worn boots. there had to be a reason for her to be so deathly afraid of men as she claimed to be. he could feel the fear emanating off of her, drinking it in only made the scars that marked his body burn. memories swimming back into his mind but he refused to let it take a toll on him visibly.      instead, he re-positioned the meal within his hands and tore it down the center. this was unusual of him, rather it was unheard of for as long as he could recall. in a sense, it felt nostalgic but he said nothing as he sunk to a crouched position before her. gradually, and with hesitance, he outstretched half of what he tore to her. ❝ Here... if it helps, let’s just pretend I’m not man, ❞ that felt weird to say. he didn’t mean to imagine himself as a woman, though it could have been taken that way. he simply desired to be separated from the whole human race. whatever happened to this girl before him, he doubted it was pleasant and he hadn’t the best experience with most humans either.      a shred of kindness wouldn’t do any harm, and despite his ‘sharing’ there was a part of him that wanted verification that the food was safe to eat. a hidden truth, that he was still as pathetic as he believed himself to be. still, in this cunning perspective, he could ‘kill two birds with one stone’. whether she took the meal or not, he would have brought his forearms to rest on his knees. ❝ --and not to bust your bubble or anything, but anyone who thinks you could survive out here just fine definitely was lying. This place is as deadly as men on the battlefield, only... you can’t read what’s going on and there’s little to nothing to go by. But if you like... ❞ he paused, shifting where he crouched and turning the food over in his hands. ❝ ... you can stick with me until we get out of here. But that’s it. Then we’ve to go separate ways, ❞ he insisted the latter, still unable to trust what would happen afterward. without the concealment of foliage, he could only expect his nightmares to surge back to the surface. however, he couldn’t live out here like a wild animal forever especially when he was only scraping by. ◢

║❝ ☼ ❞║ The silence coming from the other proved to be amusing for the artificial, a airy chuckle passing through his nostrils meanwhile a brief crack of a smile peered upon his lips. It dissipated within seconds though. The situation and air had seemed to lessen so he’ll internally be relieved over that, shoulders drooping slightly to emphasize this.            Setsuna knew something about parks, or only a little bit. He knows of a girl who was living off the streets for awhile and he recalled finding her in the park several times if not in an alley scrounging for food. Silver hues peered over when apparently he got the attention of the boy, tapping his chin as he recollected his thoughts. “Hmm… well they’re all over the place - there’s even some in the busier districts. Uh, if you can manage to get your hands on a city map of sorts, the green bits will show you where they are.” Although of course you need a bit of directional sense to navigate them, which Setsuna had on good days. Noticing the other walk towards him, he understood and stepped to the side. “I’ll show you where one is then we can go get a map, okay?”

◤ ❝ And let me guess... one of those maps will cost us some money? ❞ he was well aware that nearly every nation, place, town, city; they all required a little CURRENCY. he wasn’t too certain what this place required but he was FRESH out of any cash. he hadn’t the SKILL to steal, nor had he bothered. in his condition, it was IMPRACTICAL to try. movements were clumsy, body FRAIL. he would be the laughing stock in a jail cell. then again, he often thought about being imprisoned, knowing that the prisoners were fed but that depended on where he was.      with the colors that he wore, with his name filed away as an enemy someplace across the world, there was never any knowing if they would keep him alive. the risk was too much, forcing him to wander the wilderness or streets in HOPES to come across a SCRAP of food to keep him going another day. despite his doubts, the other had given an INVALUABLE offer that he couldn’t decline. he gave the subtlest of nods, affirming that he would tag along. ❝ What about... food? ❞ now he was pushing his luck with this stranger’s patience. he just couldn’t keep his thoughts of something as accessible as a water-fountain but in the terms of sustenance.  ◢

The Seven Sinners War - Part 3

❝ In the end, my sis never got to attend school. But I had to 'nd I hated it. The drive there was an hour long and the kids were mostly city folk. I usually skipped whenever I could, hiding with Jett in our acres of land or missing classes by not returning from recess. The only subject I intentionally attended was English – for my sis. She wanted to learn reading and writing so I always passed  on what knowledge I gathered to her whenever I was present that day. I wasn't the best teacher but by the time I was ten, I think she was getting the hang of it.      That's around the time I met Isaac. He was a transfer student, super quiet and always sat in the back like me. He had these brilliant blue eyes and this curly light brown hair. He looked like a laid-back fella 'cause of what he wore 'nd how he acted but as soon as anyone would engage conversation with him his icy, ominous eyes eyes stared right into their very soul. Had every kid runnin', 'cept for me. He was like Jett, daunting and mysterious on the outside but inside – inside there was a lot more. Rumors began to spread like wildfire about Isaac. Rumors like how he may be a zombie, raised from the dead, or how he never seemed to go home – perhaps he was a ghost stuck at this school or a reaper wantin' to pluck them off one by one. ❞
