Enzo didn't like new people. It didn't matter the position they held, he was always wary about anyone new or that 'happens to be somewhere coincidentally'. He didn't try to hide this fact. When he saw Callie suddenly appear, his foul mood only became worst. Fortunately, they had a mutual dislike for each other.
"What are you doing here?" He didn't ask for her. If it were entirely up to him, she wouldn't run any of his errands.
" hello there callie. how are you this lovely evening? thank you so much for coming out to work tonight. " her tone was deeper, but upbeat as she mimicked him. " oh, hello to you too, enzo. it's not a problem at all. happy to help the team. " she rolled her eyes at him. walking up to him, she stopped right before him, putting her hand on her hip. " what do you think I'm doing here? boss sent me here for some job. " she handed him the photo she'd been given of this room.
he sucked in a long, bracing breath. it wasn't as though apricot had truly given her an option to walk away from this, he hadn't offered. at the same time, though, he wouldn't have minded if she'd taken his words as a cue to turn around and head the other way. instead, her gaze had fallen to the wrench, and whilst it didn't particularly worry him, it just made him feel like his evening was about to get a little more complicated.
"okay, well," he said, "let me turn it around on you. you're looking at a suspicious person with a wrench. i'm looking at someone who could totally just ignore that and could just head home. they've got you working long hours in there anyway, right?" he nodded towards the tower. "if i were you, i wouldn't willingly be adding to my overtime sheet, is all."
sanem may look the picture of proper now in her pristine clothes, her heels and her expensive bag. but she had grown up in a very different neighborhood. she could fight and take care of herself in ways that no one would guess now. she could feel the waves of warning coming off him. he wanted her to keep walking. to mind her safety and leave him to his business. the or else... hung silently in the air. but sanem wasn't scared and wouldn't be intimidated.
she stood there, raising an eyebrow as she waited for him to explain himself. " and why would I do that? " sanem sighed. " my billable hours are high, and this overtime will pay for plenty. the long hours are tiring but they aren't going to cause any true issues for me. " she pointed at his wrench. " you on the other hand... I suspect what you are doing here is going to lead to some mess for me to clean up. or worse, tampering with my things. "
the light from the passing car illuminated her features and suddenly he could tell why the voice sounded familiar. honestly , his parents should be proud that he had pretty much relaxed from all the things he used to do. intoxication and powers never meshed well , even now that he was older. " yeah , it's me , " he nodded though even he couldn't recall what was her name or if they had even discussed that. he looked down at his phone , brow arched , " it's only midnight , " he scoffed knowing very well the woman could go for longer , if memory served him right. " i don't blame you -- especially with creeps. " he paused. " how've you been , it's been a minute. "
callie remembered him, or at least she vaguely remembered having fun with him. details were fuzzy. like his name for starters. but in the moment it didn't really matter. " yoooou! " she extended the word with a giggle. what a small world to run into him again. " been a while, buddy! been doing anything fun? " hearing the time, she pulled out her own phone and squinted at the time as she swayed uneasily on her uneven heels. " it was past three there.... I think. " she knew she had been in a later timezone at this party off the island. " he wouldn't leave me alone so I left and now he can't follow me. " a snicker at her mode of transportation. " been better, buddy 'ol pal. but they can't keep a good bitch down. "

“awfully quiet lately, isn’t it?” funny, how each year before this monumental meeting that phrase seemed to become the new nice weather lately. purely conversational, no matter how bizarre. “always a treat to see how well behaved most can be when it’s important.”
callie was still relatively new to the current, so she wasn't super familiar with the regular meeting between the factions. this was her second time witnessing it, or at least witnessing the people get ready for it. she wouldn't go near the thing even if they let her. " do people ever really truly behave? that's so boring. " she mused. for days now she'd been hearing everyone say how calm it was. " only one way it can go now, you know that right? "

his night had been a bit of a bore , it always was after a busy week almost as if his body had been craving rest but his mind would not settle no matter what. that's exactly what had been happening , so he wandered the streets. ear bud occupied one ear as he saw a woman comparmentalize out of thin air. well that was a cool power , he grumbled to himself watching as she stumbled. he knew he should have attended the party but any little sign of annoyance and there might someone walking out deaf or blind or worse -- both. he watched as the woman continued to stumble , contemplating helping her or letting her struggle , why didn't she just teleport to her home ? did she even know her left from her right ? " then why leave early ? " he questioned , pausing the music for her answer.
looking up, callie took better stock of who had spoken. or tried to. she squinted, stepping forward awkwardly on her now broken heel. the light hit his face from a passing car and callie let out a loud laugh. " oh shit! it's you! " she knew him. though she couldn't recall his name just right now. how long ago had it been now? she hadn't seen him around for a while but she did have some memories of him at parties and even in backrooms or his place once after a party. " early? it was winding down. plus this one guy was getting creepy... it had been fun though. but I was done there was no need to stick around if I wasn't feeling it anymore. " callie made a face.

her ears were still ringing as she appeared out of thin air. the party had been so loud only moments before. sweat and glitter clung to her skin as the world tilted around callie. drinking and teleporting was always a risky combination. but a fun one. stumbling, she attempted to grip on to anything to steady herself. instead, callie tripped over a dip in the sidewalk and she heard the sound of her heel snapping. " shit. " a grin accompanied a series of giggles. " sorry. still a fun party though. " she spoke a little too loudly with her ears still ringing with a hint of slurring from the drinks.
There had been an off stillness in the island these past couple of days. Even the weather seemed unnaturally cooperative - clear skies and gentle breeze, not a single cloud daring the darken. With the meeting approaching, it seemed everything and everyone suddenly knew how to behave. "The silence is awfully loud this week." the man noted as he let his gaze drift down the street. "It's...unsettling."
tension hung in the air. though it looked picture perfect it gave the feeling of a calm before a storm. unsettling was the most fitting word. sanem had been on edge leading up to the meeting like most. her job could get very complicated if things went sideways. hands on her hips, sanem caught her breath in the pause in her morning run. she wasn't going to speak to him originally. sanem knew his face from what files they did have on the current. a rinaldi.
but it'd be rude not to reply.
" the calm before a storm usually makes ones hair stand up on edge. "

Buffy watches the family disappear into the crowd and she can hear they way they're talking about her. Pretty. Nice. Those are always the words people seemed to settle on. Her attention lingers on them and once they're out of sight, the smile she'd worn so effortless disappeared. Not to something colder, or angry in a way, but it'd been unnecessary. The audience had walked away, so the performance came to it's end.
The coffee in her hand has gone cold, but she still takes a sip anyway. Her gaze now drifting through the streets she'd known far too well and while the faces may have changed, the town itself hadn't. It looked exactly as she remembered it twelve years ago.
The feeling of being watched came long before finding the source. When she finally does, the corners of her lips lift ever-so-slightly.
"You can come say hi," she says, glancing over the rim of her cup, "I'm not going to bite you'." Not if she doesn't have a reason to.
sanem was not one to lose herself to hysterics. or even fan behavior. it took a moment, but she did quickly place the woman as an actress. hadn't she seen an ad for some new movie of hers just this morning on the treadmill? turning the corner from the coffee shop, sanem took a sip of the piping hot liquid.
she shouldn't have been staring. but it was not because she was a particular fan of the woman. but she was high profile and the loyal lawyer of the glass was on alert at such a person on their streets.
would she be a hinderance or perhaps even an asset?
" I can't imagine that'd be good for your image if you did end up biting others. " sanem let out a small chuckle over her own lid. " apologies for staring, I don't need to bother you. "

there was no particular rule that said apricot couldn't be here. but there were certain circumstances under which he could appear that would make him look more suspicious, to say the least. firstly, the city had long welcomed the evening, the sky illuminated only by streetlights, the buzz of nightlife slowly awakening. secondly, there was the matter of his outfit-- his usual, sure, but noteworthy nonetheless; a dark hoodie, like he was trying to disappear into the setting night, the only part of him that caught any kind of light was the reflection on his ring.
oh, and he had a wrench.
that might've been the really suspicious part.
"the fuck you looking at?" he asked, nose scrunched, when someone finally appeared to notice.
despite her long hours, sanem was hardly ever at this building this late at night. but the case had involved boxes of files she had been shifting through stored here. the hour was late and once she got home and had some wine she'd slow down time so she could get a proper night of sleep. sanem had been a fool to think it was going to be so simple. coming out the front door sanem's face twisted up in confusion at the sight.
he certainly was dressed the part to scream suspicious. his attire and the wrench catching the glare of the lights illuminating the dark city were as bright as a neon sign.
" the suspicious person with a wrench. it's far too late to be doing any maintenance work. "

callie was already in a foul mood. she had gotten the picture of the location she was to teleport to at the very last minute. the one who usually gave her orders seemed almost amused at this job and that only set her on guard. appearing in the location in an instance, callie did a double take as soon as she took a step forward and surveyed her surroundings. seeing the unfamiliar familiar man it all clicked. of course her boss had been amused to send her to clean up for youngest rinaldi. " you have got to be kidding me. " callie muttered. was this some kind of punishment?
