Note to self: Your feelings are valid. You’re allowed to feel what you feel.
recovery/mental-health/advice blog
3 types of self soothing thoughts
Validation - it’s ok that I hurt and want to feel better
Reassurance - I can handle this pain, even though it hurts and I don’t like it
Perspective taking: I’ve had bad days like this before, and my record of making it through them is 100%. I can also remember my better days, and know I’m not always hurting this much
me: Im really suffering from my mental illness
anyone: okay, but have you considered how this effects me
person: I got this really cool internship/job. What are you doing this summer?
me: the best I can
Accept the fact that you will grow apart from people you’ve had significant relationships with. Understand when someone no longer positively affects your life. Let them go. Don’t hinder your growth.
today i saw a person interacting with another person and i was like how do you do it?
Depression isn’t always sadness
It’s also feeling numb at 3am but smiling and laughing with friends at 3pm
It’s also not being able to get out of bed even though you were fine the day before
It’s also not eating because you aren’t hungry or can’t be bothered, but also over eating because you’re bored and feel empty
It’s also loving too hard or not at all
Depression isn’t a constant feeling of sadness, depression can be hidden in happiness.
Your depression is valid even if people say it’s not just because you smile

I found these gifs I made a while back for a site that’s not running anymore, so I thought I’d post them here. It’s a description of psychiatric symptoms and states of mind using a pink box and some other stuff.
These are so accurate
Interesting! Just thought I’d share!
if you see someone experiencing symptoms of an anxiety disorder (GAD, panic disorder, PTSD/C-PTSD, etc) do not:
tell them they are “hysterical.” firstly, that term has misogynist roots, and, more importantly, you are trivializing them. it doesn’t even matter if you see the issue as trivial. the person might see it that way, too. but their anxiety doesn’t. and they are in the grip of that anxiety whether you or they like it or not.
tell them they are “freaking out.” no one ever needs to hear that they’re a freak, least of all when they already feel like shit.
tell them they’re being a “baby.” this is a disorder. it’s not a character flaw; it does not make them immature in itself.
criticize them for how they choose to talk it out, if that is what they feel they have to do. they might speak about the anxiety-causing issue in a circular way - please recognize that this is because they literally feel like they are enclosed by it with no way out.
yell at them in any way, shape, or form. many peoples’ anxiety symptoms are brought on or exacerbated by loud noises and/or confrontational behavior, so imagine what a combination of those two things could do.
thanks.

Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?
