I was bringing my children home from their mother’s when my oldest was telling me she had watched some of a football game. She didn’t tell me what one it was but she went on to say she didn’t like the managers or the captains because they are so bossy. Um….I’m no sure how to break that news to her. Maybe wait until the next England game and see if she realizes.

I love performing, love my fans to the moon and back but I ain’t gonna lie; I have it out for the people who toss shite at me or anyone else that performs on stage. First of all, it can hurt, no matter how small, second of all, s’just fuckin’ rude. Recently I got a chicken nugget thrown at me’ head and you bet your arse I threw it the fuck back. I’ve never understood that, especially since they’re supposed to be your fans? I’d maybe understand if it was somebody who didn’t like you, but then it’d be a matter of them spending all that money to go to your show just to throw something at you, and that makes even less sense. I’ve been good - going to all the fancy Hollywood events lately, thanks to awards season. It was also my son’s birthday the other day, so that was great.

what’s the most bullshit-sounding-but-true fact you know? 

for me.. it’s got to be the Boston Molassacre. the year was 1919 and a large storage tank filled with 2.3 million gallons of molasses, weighing approximately 12,000 tons, burst, and the resultant wave of molasses rushed through the streets at an estimated 35 mph (that’s about 56 km/h, for you guys across the pond), killing 21 and injuring 150. AND to this day, whenever a hot summer’s day rolls by, the residents of North End, Boston, claim that they can still smell the molasses. can you imagine? you’re going about your day and you see a wave of molasses heading your way. terrifying. 

though, i guess this brings a whole new meaning to the term as slow as molasses..

Well, I have never had an Oscar nomination but I can imagine the feeling. I guess having a song getting to the top of the charts is the same kind of feeling. And I have had those moments when I have teared up wondering how we even managed it. It is great to meet you, Benedict. I’m Keith.

There we go, I’ve never had a chart topping hit, but I can imagine it’s an incredible feeling! I think what’s the most incredible part is knowing how many other people were involved for you to reach that point in your career. That’s what I value most - I don’t see it as a recognition of my achievements, but of those around me. Hey, Keith, it’s great to properly meet you.

You should’ve told them you were just so happy that you were about to drop them off at school and have some alone time. Again, not serious — but would’ve been great to see their reactions to that. I did, but they aren’t quite at the age where they can comprehend the magnitude of it yet, which is perfectly alright with me. It’s great to meet you, too, Sara, and thank you so much! There’s some very tough competition in my category, especially with the Globe winners Will and Andrew, so I don’t have too high hopes of being the recipient, but never say never. If my movie wins any awards, I’ll consider that the true accomplishment, because it was very much a communal effort, and the whole team deserve to get rewarded for it.

Isn’t that just so sweet in a way though? Like the innocence of children. Or rather hilarious that they find it so strange that you’re smiling at the breakfast table? One day though, they’ll grow up and realize what a major deal it actually is and they’ll be able to say that their father was an Oscar nominee and hopefully winner huh. Major congratulations on your nomination Benedict. I’m Taylor and thoroughly thought you deserved it. The Oscars weekend is always one of my favorite weekends and you’re actually going to get to be at the main event and wait for your name to be called. That is so exciting! I wish you all the luck for it.

It is very sweet, it’s the only way I ever want to get exciting work related news in the future. They remind me, that at the end of it all, the most important thing in the world is that I’m their dad. The rest is just noise. Thank you, Taylor! I really appreciate the kind words. It’s very scary - whenever I’ve gone before, I’ve always been so nervous, even without being nominated for anything.

Sad to say that I have never heard of the movie, but will have to give it a viewing when the time presents itself. Is this your first nomination for the academy?

Every reason to thank you! I absolutely will, it’s a huge deal. It’s on Netflix, so if you want to check it out, feel free to! I feel like I can say with little bias that it’s really good, you know considering the nominations. It’s actually my second! I got nominated a few years ago for The Imitation Game.

Disney is a great vacation, but there’s plenty more options out there! Take this Florence trip - although it’s a little colder here than one might like, it’s different from the norm. Maybe stop off in Venice before you head home. The French riviera is gorgeous, too. Anywhere around the med, really. India is... the most unique place I’ve ever been, for sure. I’m a keen traveler, can you tell?

Whenever we’re in the same place - I’d love to meet him! He clearly has great taste, if he likes Strange. I’ve been good, been spending a lot of time at home, the past few weeks, which has been nice. The last couple of years have been super busy, so it’s nice to just spend time with the boys, whilst prepping for my next movie. How about you?

Well, the fact I have only ever been in one movie and that was for one song, I don’t think I will be getting one any time soon. My older boys are is Zac who is 11 and Charlie who is 8. Then I have Mia who is 2 and my little trio Alexander, Melody and Aria who are 6 months old. I am sure you have had many congratulations since the nominations came out.

Still, never say never! Wow, that’s quite a little army of kiddos you’ve got there. Here was me thinking I have a busy household! Must be nice when you have some time for yourself. There have been, yeah, it’s been such an outpour of love that makes me so happy and lucky that I’m surrounded by such kind and generous people.
