not sure how i feel about the fact that an open discussion on gerard way's racism and racism in the mcr fandom was reduced to discourse and fell pretty much silent after like. a day.
nah let me rephrase: kinda FUCKED that an open discussion on gerard way's racism and racism in the mcr fandom was reduced to discourse and fell silent after a day
the fact people called it “fandom discourse” instead of “racism in the mcr fandom being brought to light” really shows who the fandom is as a whole tbh.

for all of the people in the notes asking what happened, see this post, this post, this post, and this post, also this post by @godlywitch and this post by @milfiero
there were dozens more posts and @ofsorrowz , @ressurectionist , @slp-nt-th-trgdy , and @queercodedvampire also spoke a lot about it among others
i had a hard time finding posts cause i didnt tag any of them to avoid racists muting them
thank you for the mention!! i wanna point real fast:
1. that post being from JULY AND AUGUST of 2020 and that he continues to be silent. im unsure how many of you were active on his Instagram and remember all that's happened but gerard literally turnt comments off briefly after getting backlash for just posting a black square and then posting his notepad self-centered statement. that's as far as he has ever spoken about BLM before returning to advertise his comics and show
2. he continues to follow (and associate) with racists personally too because he literally doesn't care. x is a brief post i did to show that no, it isnt JUST him not being outspoken (which shouldnt be excused regardless). the reason he wont speak out is exactly what you said so brilliantly; because his personal life is filled with racists he doesn't want to face criticism from (and him still associating with a literal r/pist) and he refuses to acknowledge the privilege he holds while profiting off his safe performance activism!
I just saw a Tweet that was like "overexplaining yourself is a trauma response". The amount of people in the replies like "wait does this mean I was traumatised", I even saw one like "I thought I had a happy childhood but these posts are making me think otherwise" and oh my god the misinformation.
Overexplaining yourself can be a trauma response, but that doesn't mean it always is
Sure, PTSD/CPTSD and other trauma-based disorders can lead to the need to over-explain yourself.
You know what else can cause it? Autism, ADHD, OCD, anxiety, depression, Graves' disease, epilepsy, and even just fucking low self esteem without any mental illnesses or neurodivergences behind it.
Saying "overexplanation is a trauma response" is like saying "ankle pain means your foot is broken." Sure, it could be that. But it could also be a sprain, a break in the ankle itself rather than the foot, an allergic reaction to something that touched your ankle, or "you bumped it in your sleep and it bruised a bit". There are other symptoms you gotta figure out before jumping immediately to any one condition.
The worst part is this is far from the first time Twitter has done something like this. I feel like every other week I see "XYZ is caused by trauma!" when XYZ could be caused by literally anything.
I'm not saying discount the possibility of trauma. But if you only hit one or two symptoms of childhood trauma, don't immediately jump to that conclusion either - especially if, like one of the replies I mentioned above, you feel like your life has been relatively happy.
Tldr:
Sometimes things that can be trauma responses can also be caused by other issues. Sometimes things that can be caused by other issues are actually trauma responses. Look into things properly before jumping to a conclusion based on just one or two symptoms.
(to be clear, I am pro-self diagnosis. I am not pro "this vague symptom means you must have trauma")
The Way brothers perform before a small crowd at Vintage Vinyl Records in Fords, New Jersey on June 8, 2004. Just two years into their career, the band dropped their second studio album, “Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge” on this day.

But anon is right u dont have to be in the fandom if you dont agree with the actions of the artist. Its that simple. If you think hes racist then go and support someone else

no but fr jokes aside let me talk abt this. so making a fandom space safer for minorities is tougher than being so blindly defensive of ur favs? So racism is excusable but criticism of your favs is not? Is that what you are trying to say
and answering your ask, no I wont move anywhere else. poc wont move anywhere else. there comes a time when someone says 'enough' because we're done making adjustments to your privilege and moving ourselves away from the scene for the sake of 'peace' or whatever. get fucked
eeeeehyesu
It's your choice to be in the MCR fandom, if you don't like something you're free to leave.
it's your choice to be a racist cuck
actually let's go back to this
why do you think that racism is such an integral part of the mcr fandom that anyone who doesn't want to deal with it should leave?
it's almost like there's a problem here or something
