Ah, the dilemma of wanting to talk about a show but fearing the fandom enough to not want to tag it but also feeling the need to tag for those who want to avoid the show⦠schrodinger's fandom
Yknow, just for the hell of it- hereās an explanation of hxh stuff in The Summer Hikaru Died for those who havenāt watched hxh
So in universe, Master + Master is basically directly referencing HxH. Ron and Tsumo are basically Gon and Killua to a t, which also fits very well in relation to Yoshiki and āHikaruā. Gon and Killua are basically two kids that met and became very close friends, Gon being Killuaās first real friend and Killua being Gonās first friend thatās his age.
The anime starts with Gon leaving his home, whale island and going on a journey to get a hunters license in the hopes to connect with his missing father. After they meet taking the exam, Killua basically just tags along with Gon, hoping to find something he wants to do besides what he doesnāt want, which is to be an assassin like his family. A family who just so happen to live on a mountain, isolated from the rest of the world and expect Killua to head the family when heās older.
And well⦠doesnāt that just sound a lot like Hikaru/āHikaruās whole situation.
Thereās a point in the anime where Killua basically gets scared heās gonna wanna figure out if he can kill Gon one day since he was raised to be an assassin and goes back to his familyās home only for Gon to follow and they leave together. This fear of killing Gon continues to be part of Killuaās biggest conflict with himself for the anime as he cares so much for Gon but has had moments of instinct kicking in that has made him run away from danger.
So- honestly hxh fits pretty well for āHikaruā and Yoshikiās situation. āHikaruās fear of hurting Yoshiki and thinking it may be better to return to the mountain and let Yoshiki move on. Funny enough Yoshiki does share Gonās stubbornness and sorta selfishness. There might be more that Iām forgetting but those are the biggest connections to me.

Reading the Silksong Hunter's Journal just feels like this sometimes
The sequence of X explaining to Ahu all the stories tied inextricably together makes me intrigued at some of the scenes, such as Queen and cyan supposedly meeting before Cyan was handed to the orphanage.
Are all the scenes true, or are they all blurring into one another? Cyan and Queen aren't seen to meet when they were younger, and we don't see Ghostblade in episode 4, but we see him here. Is there a possibility that X is simply revealing the full truth for us and Ahu? That every story is connected, and these are the actions that led to it. After all, the believers do believe that X is omniscient, that he knows everything, so here he is with a wider perspective connecting the dominos that fall and are ready to crush with him as the weight of knowledge isn't a kind one to bear.
However, while X seems to have gained all the big details and connections, maybe there is a possibility that he is mistaken about smaller details? Or maybe we just aren't told the full story in the heroes arcs, and X is the one to reveal it.
There is also a possibility that X is simply reciting the fate that he sees, and through that, he recites the hero's stories although some of them have more differences than expected, such as cyan and E-soul's.
X is a big metaphor guy, after all.
Exactly
I donāt think Ghostblade was actually there fighting E-Soul, more that it was a transition to represent Ghostblade and E-Soul being pitted against each other at the spaceship. Otherwise I donāt know what Ghostblade being there would have brought to the story, itās not like he saved Moonās life or had any other connection to what was happening. Just lots of imagery via X
Someone please let me know if Iām wrong but have we seen Yang Chengās face at all since the E-Soul fight?
We know heās the current E-Soul so itās not really a secret and part of his whole appeal to fans was that he showed his face so whyād he stop?
We donāt even see it in promotional art or anything. Everyone else will be in casual attire and he will be too, but still keeps the helmet on. Itās interesting.
NEW INTERIA OP LETS GOOOOOOO
Ill be so honest when Yang Cheng walked into that zero worship room and stalked over to Rock i really thought YC would either confront him or kill him lmao
So I guess itās really not uncommon for heroes to kill people huh. With the public E-Soul death battle, then assassinating Moon, Ghostblade being a known hitman, Dragonboy also being pretty openly violent, Nice trying to kill people, and now Ahu saying he was planning on assassinating X- this really is a whole different world as far as morals and public perception of what a hero is.
Would ya look at that! 3D!
So Iām gonna just skip X cause we already know his model looks good so letās look at the new ones-
Queen
Iāve seen a lot of divide on how the models look and Iām just gonna say- I feel like itās just something to get used to. Niceās model and his 2d self look super different too but we got to see him in 3d a lot through Lin Ling. I think once these characters start moving and emoting more, a lot of the hesitation will recede cause these models look good! Itās really just the faces that take getting used to.
Iāve also seen people comparing the models to the PVās which just feels unfair. The PVās were a different level of animation quality than the series can do constantly, compared to the actual episodes, Queen looks very good to me.
Dragonboy
Another one that will take some getting used to. Sorry Dragonboy, your shot isnāt the most flattering. He looks older as a 3D model to me, taller too. Or maybe thatās just proportions. Hes got a very different face to me as well.
Ghostblade
We donāt have a lot to go off right now. His mask and hair kinda obscures most of his face. From what I can see though, he looks very good!
The Johnnies
We only see Little Johnnieās face from the side for like half a second but he looks really good! He wears a mask for most of his screen time so itās hard to judge from the front. Big Johnnie looks identical basically to his 2D self, he really gives off PokĆ©mon vibes now.
Loli
I donāt have enough image space for Loliās comparison but sheās really similar to her 2D self. Like E-Soul, thereās not much different about Loli. I do wonder if we will get to see her face in 3D though.
Lucky Cyan
Another one thatāll take a little getting used to. Sheās probably the most different to me (either her or Dragonboy) and itās mostly from the eyes and nose I think. Itās just all in the face with these guys and we only see them for a roster shot where everyoneās got a focused face.
And thatās everyone worth bringing up I think. Weāve seen Ahu, E-Soul, Lin Ling, and Nice in 3D before
I KNEW IT
3D animation is expensive. Making models and assets are expensive.
So it makes sense that they didnāt want to model every character in every arc with all the backgrounds and assets and additional characters. You can tell they didnāt have a dragon boy model but I really hope in season 2 they can at least make models of the top 10.
And since they have models for Nice, X, E-Soul, and Ahu- why not use them when you can.
And and it looks like the fight this episode took place in the same location that Yang Cheng got his ass beat and got his first bit of trust so they could reuse that background model too.
Not a critic at all. Just interesting to see how the show is working within its budget and limitations. I really love seeing how this show is experimenting in both storytelling and in art styles, this show really is something special
Well time to eat my words!
I was dead wrong!
