MCYT On Ao3 - December '25
It's the last stats day of the month, and it's time for me to update my spreadsheet! We have some hot new fandoms, a lot of new canonizations, and the holidays coming up! Let's take a look.
A significant number of new canonizations happened this month. Kings SMP, Chained Life SMP, Strength SMP, P4perSMP, Queue56 SMP, and Searching For A World That Doesn't Exist - Wifies (Web Series) are all new! This brings us to within a hairs-breadth of 100 MCYT fandoms, as I count 97 MCYT fandoms on my spreadsheet, and also Video Blogging.
Fics are still primarily in english, but several fandoms also feature fics in spanish. In the list of fandoms with significant spanish-language fics, Karmaland shows 947 of 1,108 are in spanish, a jump from 940 last month, Tortillaland shows 177 of 186 are in spanish, from 166 last month, and QSMP shows 1,499 of 12,694 are in spanish, from 1,480 last month (which is 19 fics of QSMP's entire month growth of 36 fics). Of Chafaland's 16 fics, 6 are in spanish, up one from last month, and of Fuga Impossível's 120 fics, 12 are in spanish.
When it comes to other languages, QSMP shows 61 works in French, the same as last month, and 932 works in Brazilian Portuguese, actually down from 934 works last month. Arkanis SMP also has a considerable percentage of non-english fics, with 14 fics of 70 in Brazilian Portuguese, the same as last month, and Fuga Impossível shows 8 works of 120 in Brazilian Portuguese.
In small fandoms, our standout was one of the new fandoms, as Chained Life SMP shows an increase in 20 fics from last month. Minecraft FNF also showed a respectable 13 new fics, perhaps boosted by the movie!
In medium fandoms, it was also a new fandom that exploded. Last month's standout of States SMP posted a very good 129 fics, but Searching For A World That Doesn't Exist was what really caught people's imagination. Despite having been canonized during the month and only launched recently, it showed an increase of 328 new fics!
In the large fandoms, it was a slow month for most, as nearly every fandom saw either a small or a precipitous drop from last month. Empires continued a several-month decline with only 88 fics against last month's 109 (though it's worth nothing that Empires is so close to 10k— they're at 9,949 works in the fandom). Lifesteal's 161 is down from last month's 246, the lowest increase since the summer, and DSMP's 188 was one of the lowest numbers I've ever seen from it. Despite Nice Life showing, Life Series posted only 447 works, the lowest number since june of 2024, and Hermitcraft's 551 was its lowest number since March of this year despite a new season airing. There are two possible causes to these drops in the big fandoms which I suspect— one is that a lot of people are pre-writing holiday gifts that are going to be posted during exchanges, and the other is that everyone has moved to Vampires. Vampires didn't match last month's growth of 1,150, but it was still the highest fandom by a significant margin, showing 853 new fics.
Video Blogging's 3,839 was in the same range as last year's 3,489, which is back down from some record-setting numbers but still a healthy fandom, I believe! Lots of creativity on display this month!
