She couldnât help but stare as Fane removed his gloves, exposing his cyberarm. It was a rather nice model from what she could see, probably combat ready, though basic limbs were lethal in the right hands. Most everyone had cyber-somthings these days, so she couldnât help but wonder why he hid it, but she pushed the through aside for later.
Virgo found herself calming significantly around the bodyguard as they chatted. He was a lot kinder than his job would have indicated, most of the guards she hired were gruff, and impolite, and boring, but he was downright pleasant. Nice to have around.
After a time she went back to doing her job, a few joytoys poking their heads in to ask questions and eye Fane wearily, and things seemed to be going well. Until one of her girls, Riley, brought her another note, written on the back of a receipt. She felt her stomach drop.
âYOU THINK THAT PRETTY BOY WILL SAVE YOU? HEâLL DIE FIRST, THEN IâM COMING FOR YOUâ
Fane moved to Virgo's side in an instant, flesh hand on her shoulder. He looked at the note and frowned. Usually, when a bodyguard showed up, he found the threatening party usually backed down. This one was either confident or stupid. Or both, Fane supposed. He squeezed her shoulder gently.
"Don't worry about it," Fane said softly. He was definitely worried about it. But he didn't want Virgo to worry too much. He'd survived Militech, he'd survived escaping Militech, and he'd survived his solo work. After ten years of doing dangerous work and surviving, Fane wasn't overly concerned that an anonymous entity could kill him.
He did worry that they could incapacitate him long enough to get to Virgo though. "I ain't about to let something happen to you," Fane promised, heading for his weapon back and adding a few more to his collection. He glanced at her. Fane could see the fear on her face, though.
Walking back across the room, Fane held out his cyberlimb to her. "I wanna tell you about this," he said, keeping his voice low. The modification was a prototype, an illegal one at that. Even without his other cyberware, the limb alone would put Fane at risk for psychosis. "You can't tell anyone, cause it ain't legal. You name it, and it's jammed into this thing. Gorilla arm, rocket launcher, and mantis blade in one limb, matching blade in my other arm. Anyone coming after you is gonna have a hell of a time getting through me."
