Kuchiki Byakuya, two-hundred-forty years old, is the Leader of the Tengu Clan, one of the ruling clans of the Realm of Spirits. While he might be aloof and prideful, he cares deeply for those who work their way into his heart, and he especially cares for his younger sister. When Abarai Renji, the Warrior of Hachiman, enters the Realm of Spirits and saves the life of his sister, Byakuya returns the kindness by having Renji stay in his estate for a month. Intrigued by his appearance and fascinated by his passionate nature and kind heart, Byakuya comes to enjoy Renjiâs company as the days pass. Slowly but surely, Renji works his way into Byakuyaâs heart as he listens to all the tales that he has to share about his world, and it doesnât take long for them to form a strong bond with one another, one that slowly becomes the most beautiful thing that they will both experience in their lives.

Though it rankles on Byakuya to even compare them at all, it has occurred to him that there advantages to his relationship with Renji that his relationship with Hisana did not have.
As a low-born soul, Hisana truly had nothing to offer himânot in any way that would matter to his family. It did not matter that she was brave, that she had gone through horrors no person should have gone through and had come out of it intact, that she was radiant and warm and had taken one look at Byakuya and attempted to steal his coin purse and bitten him when he flash-stepped up to her.
It had only mattered that she had no wealth, no connections, no pedigree to speak of.
And though Renji is just as low-born, he is a viciously competent soldier, a well-respected leader, and Byakuyaâs own fiercely devoted lieutenant. In all the ways that matter in Soul Society, Renji has proven himself, has fought wars and bled and killed.
Renji has power, influence, allies. He has the capacity to be Byakuyaâs equal in a way Hisana could never be.
It would be a good match. It would even, Byakuya muses, be an acceptable match.
If not for one thing. There is always one thing.
Renji is a man. And Byakuya needs to produce an heir.
âYour reiatsu changes when youâre thinking too hard about something, you know.â
The door slides open, and Renji steps inside with a grin in place. He stows Zabimaru into place beside Senbonzakura, an action as natural to him as his presence in Byakuyaâs private rooms.
âThat canât possibly be true,â Byakuya says, turning a page on the book he has not been reading.
âIt totally is,â Renji says, plopping down next to him. He always plops, Renji. Or falls, or lands, or folds himself. He canât simply sit. âIt makes you feelâŠsizzly.â
âSizzly,â Byakuya says. He does not turn to look at Renji, though he would confess, if pressed, that he leans in just a little closer.
He neednât have bothered with the pretense: Renji slings an arm across his waist, noses at his ear, and hums, low and pleased. âYeah. Feels good.â
âIâm notâdoing it for your benefit,â Byakuya says, interrupted only briefly by Renjiâs teeth on his neck.
And then there is not much talking, because Renji kisses him. Byakuya wonders if Renji can feel his reiatsu shifting from thisâfrom the surge of sweet pleasure, the helpless lowering of every defense he has ever put up. He wonders if Renji knows just what he does to him.
âWanna let me know whatâs going on in that gorgeous brain of yours?â Renji asks, all while bearing Byakuya to the floor.
âYou have no idea what my brain looks like,â Byakuya says, just to be contraryâhe is, after all, allowing Renji to crawl on top of him. He canât let him get away with everything.
âThatâs true,â Renji says, nodding, sliding his hands down Byakuyaâs sides, slipping them under his robe. âBut if the rest of you is anything to go by, itâs gotta be damn pretty."
Byakuya Kuchiki is being hounded by members of the nobility to remarry. Out of options to rebuff societal pressure, he asks Renji to pretend to be his loverâjust for appearances and nothing moreâto quench the insistence of his noble peers. A transactional arrangement is all it is, with strictly no strings attachedâŠuntil one starts to get jealous and possessive, and the other catching feelings. ByaRen BazzRen GrimmIchi on the side.

I JUST THINK THEY WOULD WORK REALLY WELL TOGETHER. byakuya would absolutely self-immolate if he ever realizes he has feelings for someone who isn't his Most Beloved Wife but hisana would think it over because she's pragmatic like that, and come to the conclusion that this could be good, actually. AFTER byakuya has been convinced not to walk into the ocean to drown himself. hisana wants to see her husband kissing his lieutenant. and it'll be nice to see someone hold him down properly. and she's seen the way they look at each other, and renji is clearly very devoted and byakuya is lovesick - yes, this could be good.
renji's just in this for the ride, he'll sleep at the foot of their bed if that's what they want, he will take any tiny crumb that they give him
hisana thinks he's very silly. it's a big bed. come cuddle her and her husband!!
also renji and hisana and rukia have their Inuzuri bond and there are many shared glances across the dinner table that completely go over byakuya's head. he is at peace. he is so happy. he has all his favorite people here. yay.
Byakuya looked at Renji's surprised face. Originally he hadn't paid much attention but over time, he put two and two together. The noble debated if he wanted to bring attention to it, to even confront Renji but something deep down urged him forward and so he had.
â Do you really believe that? â Despite asking the question, Byakuya knew deep down that Renji did believe exactly that Hadn't he contributed to that thought during their fight all those years ago? Telling Renji that his fang would never reach him?
How ironic now, that he'd be the one trying to change that thought process. It was ironic ---- laughable even, except, now he was serious about making Renji believe he was worthy.

I'm not saying that Renji and Byakuya definitely reincarnated as lesbians in Arcane. I am just saying that I've seen at least two pictures whereâŠwell, it took me a while to be sure of the fandom.

Summary:
Renji decided that the members of his squad were too slow to react and their reflexes are horrible (read: normal). They need better training to become aware of their surroundings. How better to accomplish this than with Squad Eleven's 'Special Brand of Care.'
Now he just has to get his captain on board with his unusual methods.
