Also, seeing all this in a list is just...astounding. The love this fic got was so humbling, I am truly so grateful to have reached so many people with it.
As for NYC spots...CAC is the master list, but if anybody ever wants a few NYC haunts off the beaten path feel free to message me, I'm happy to oblige.
Thanks @zipegs for tagging me! I do love a good dash game.
the last book I read: I just read a book called A Harvest of Hearts that was pitched as a cozy romance in the same vein as Howl's Moving Castle and was definitely mismarketed. That wasn't the author's fault, but I struggled to connect with the MMC, so I can't recommend this one.
a book I'd recommend: The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez. Easily the most imaginative fantasy I've ever read but also a complete marvel and masterpiece from a writing mechanics perspective.
a book I couldn't put down: Problematic Summer Romance by Ali Hazelwood. And MAN was I rewarded (who's putting breeding kinks in contemporary romance? Our girl Ali, that's who.)
a book I've read twice or more: Howl's Moving Castle. It's so different from the movie but equally as delightful.
a book on my tbr: I still haven't read The Secret History by Donna Tartt, but I've also gotten the impression that this is a book that should be read in fall/winter so I think I've lost my window of opportunity until October or so.
a book I've put down: For the life of me, I can't get through Wuthering Heights. Everyone is annoying.
a book on my wishlist: I'd like a physical copy of Problematic Summer Romance, as mentioned above, for, uh...reasons.
a favourite book from childhood: Holes by Louis Sachar. I've been meaning to reread this.
a book I'd give to a friend: I wish more people would read Conclave by Robert Harris. There's some differences between the book and the movie but it's really a delight to be in Lawrence (Lomeli's) head. It's a short and fun read with enough drama to draw even non-readers in.
a book of poetry or lyrics that I own: I'm working my way through Emily Wilson's translation of The Odyssey right now.
a non-fiction book that I own: The Republic of Saint Peter: The Birth of the Papal State 600-825 for research I'm doing for a manuscript.
what I'm currently reading: Currently reading a cozy romance called Stay for a Spell about a princess that gets trapped in a bookshop and her parents keep sending well-meaning princes to try to free her with true love's kiss. (it's not working)
what I'm planning on reading next: It depends on what comes up first on my Libby but it's probably going to be Beloved by Toni Morrison.
Mr. "Skinny Almond Milk Iced Latte, One And A Half Shots Of Coffee (Not Just The House Blend, Francis, Find Out What They Have As This Week's Guest Coffee And Text Me Before Ordering), Dash of Sugar-Free Pistachio Syrup, No More Than Two Ice Cubes, Sprinkle Of Cinnamon On Top But Only If It's Organic"?

Two Chained Monkeys - Pieter Bruegel the Elder - he has Jacko.
HMS 'Erebus' passing through the chain of bergs, 1842 - Richard Brydges Beechey - He’s on Erebus. He’s Captain of Erebus. I don’t think I need to explain more (this goes for literally everyone, they all have either Terror or Erebus on, purely based on who’s on which ship)
Satan the Fallen Angel - Gustave Doré - Hubris. Just. Hubris
Pyramid of Skulls - Paul Cézanne - the whole Doomed To Die thing

A Pair of Shoes - Vincent Van Gogh - “you’ll eat your own boots”. Yeah
Cutting the Stone/The Cure of Folly/Extraction of the Stone of Madness - Hieronymus Bosch - Well someone needs a stone of madness removing, cause how did they think this expedition was going to go?
The Treachery of Images - René Magritte - He smokes a pipe. That’s the main reason. Also I could argue that he’s the type of bloke to deny something plainly obvious. The main reason is the fact he smokes though
Icarus - Galileo Chini - Hubris again. What’s a better hubris story than Icarus?
Argo - Konstantinos Volanakis - “we are the greatest Argonauts of our age!” (Or whatever he says. The argonauts is the relevant bit)
Anthony of Padua - Francisco de Zurbarán - He’s the patron saint of lost things. And what is the Franklin expedition but a whole lot of lost things.

You Flatter Me! - Louis Wain - look at that sad, fluffy cat. Neddie.

Truth coming from the well armed with her whip to chastise humanity - Jean-Léon Gérôme - she looks like Girlnavy Jopson and also the whip? Jopflogging. It compels me.

While and Polar Bear (no that’s not a typo, it doesn’t come up if you search “whale”. I don’t know) - Kestutis Kasparavicius - It’s just so sweet and I thought it was quite her
