get to know draculaura :
Unlike many other young vampires who are born into their world, Draculaura was originally a human oh so many years ago. The daughter of two average townsfolk in Romania, though she never had the opportunity to meet her biological father given that he was killed in a battle defending their village. Widowed with nowhere else to go, her mother used an old tie to the Count and was taken in by Dracula himself. In honor of that move of kindness Camilla named her daughter after the Count, adapting the name she had already picked out with her late husband to come up with Draculaura.
Over the years, a relationship grew between Camilla and Dracula as they fell in love. Laura had always seen the Count to be like a father figure to her, but it’s not until one month when he’s away on business that she officially becomes his adopted daughter. He had returned home to find Camilla dead from a plague and Laura halfway gone as well. It was too late to do anything for her mother, but Dracula was quick to act to save Laura’s life. He turned her and fully took her under his wing as his daughter.
Laura was 25 when she was changed and because she was not born a vampire, she will never age physically beyond her twenty something year old body.
Over the years, Laura was trained in honing her vampire skills and learning the ways of monster society at Vampire Court. For the majority of her life she was never allowed to leave the court - never seeing any other part of the world or life beyond what came to her. Though she had her best friend Elissabat and others who often visited the court, like her cousin Mavis, it was still a slightly lonely life.
It wasn’t until about ten years ago that Laura finally convinced her father to let her leave the court and attend the newly opened Monsters University. She had missed out on the years of high school, but her private tutors in the court helped make up for any missing pieces of education. It was only because the University had a purely monster based student body and staffing rule that Dracula agreed to let her go.
She didn’t really need a degree in anything, given that she knew she would always be the Princess of Vampire Court and if need be would take over as the head if her father requested, but learning new things was fun! And it offered her a chance to find a potential career for herself outside of the court, if her father would ever allow that.
Her first degree she received was in fashion design and then after that she studied hospitality and business. And it was while learning all of this, seeing the rest of the monster and human world from the outside looking in, that Laura decided she wanted to be a part of it. She wanted to experience it first hand. Particularly the normie world, as they called it back at the University.
With two degrees under her belt, she returned to the Vampire Court and told her father that she was going to travel the world. She had no goal or plan in mind, but was determined to go out there and be a part of it. All of it. That of course, didn’t fly well with Dracula and he refused to let her leave. A huge fight started between the two, one that lasted months, before finally an agreement was made. Laura could leave the Court, but she was not going to just willy nilly travel wherever she wanted. It was too dangerous. Instead, she would go to work at her uncle’s hotel, located in Echo Isle. She would work with cousin Mavis and follow all rules that she set for the younger vampire. It wasn’t exactly what Laura had wanted, but it felt perfect nonetheless and she eagerly agreed.
She now works as a concierge at Hotel Transylvania and spends all of her time not on the clock roaming around the island and learning everything she can about normie life.
She is a vegan vampire, meaning she only drinks animal blood. That was a change she made when attending Monster University, before then she always drank from the donors at the Vampire Court. She has never killed a human before though, only ever taking a small amount from each of her assigned donors to satisfy herself enough without needing to take any of their lives.
Her favorite colors are pink and black. The majority of her closet consists of those two colors mixing and matching with each other.
Her birthday is Valentine’s Day and she is actually the reason that the holiday was created. Her first boyfriend Kieran Valentine dedicated an entire holiday just in honor of her birth and his supposed love for her - though over time no one remembers the part of it being her birthday, instead focusing purely on the romantic parts of the day. It also turned out that Kieran had simply been using Laura and hoping to collect her heart in hopes of gaining power for himself, but she had outsmarted him and escaped. Kieran was then banned from the Vampire Court.
She’s only had one boyfriend ever since then - her best friend’s brother, Claud Wolf. They dated throughout all of her time at Monster University and though she loves him dearly, they broke up when she decided to leave and explore other parts of the world. While she wanted Claud to join her, he couldn’t leave behind his pack that easily and so they had an amicable split.
