ok to everyone who liked and reblogged this, here are some of the fics i've read that fall vaguely into this category but still delivered with the fix i needed:

Rabbit Heart

multichaptered, lwj getting hurt isn't the main plot but it is the climax. theres great build up to it. basically, it's chief cultivator business that got him into this terrible situation, which is a plot point i am obsessed with.

i dont wanna lose you (hope it never ends)

single chapter, lwj isn't injured but he is sick beyond cultivating repair. the illness is prolonged, so whiny lwj and concerned wwx moments are upped to maximum. more of fluff than angst but i still love it.

moonlight caught in mutton fat

multi chaptered case/mystery fic where lwj and lxc gets turned into jade statues. my favorite in this list by far!!! the situation is the optimum for potential angst, fluff, and heavy love declarations and i can confidently say it won't disappoint. wwx also goes full yiling laozu, not in the scary typa way, but in the genius, there's-no-room-for-jokes, nothing-can-stop-me-if-i-put-my-head-into-it typa way and its honestly hawt. it has everything i love in a cql fic.

surrender's just a word

2/3 chapters. it has the most devasting prompt ever. the lwj lashes recur annualy, which means great potential for heavy angst. first chapter, lxc deals with it. second chapter, lsz does. seeing as all those characters are the people lwj values in his life, i'm inclined to believe that wwx will be in third chapter. im not sure tho but i think the next chapter will be very much worth the wait.

what else is there

single chapter, lwj is not injured (not until the end) but he is a Swan so he does need rescuing. angst, love confessions, and the unusual plan jin guangyao has makes this fic so much of a treat.

a spark in dry brush

single chapter, if you are looking for a fic that is exactly what i described in the original post, this is for you. lwj gets fatally wounded and wwx goes yiling laozu and by that I mean Yiling LaozuTM to the point that "graphic depictions of violence" is the archive warning. it's good, it's great. the only flaw of this fic is that it isn't long enough :(((

I have to say I just adore Elladan and Elrohir. They are literally my pride and joy and I love everything about them. And what is so interesting about this is that it is a compliment to both to the Professor and the fandom.

Unfortunatelly the Professor did not give the twins much personality. What we know for sure about them is their age, that they are Elrond's sons, good warriors, avenged their mother and hunted orcs, were good friends with the dúnedain and helped Aragorn to fulfill his destiny. More or less that is all we know for a fact. (Feel free to correct me if I left anything out) And granted I would have (and already did) loved them for these reasons alone. Being a child of Elrond Peredhel makes you one of my favorite characters on principle.

But then in came the fandom and gave them a (as far as I have seen) universally acknowledged and accepted much deeper personality. They are such rascals, loving to cause havoc on Rivendell (and generally everywhere) but they are also mature and wise due to their age. There is nothing they wouldn't do for the ones they love. We generally acknowledge Elladan as the older twin who is more in the role of a protector and more guarded while Elrohir is more open with his feelings and less brash. I love them so much. They are always making me smile, but the minute something happens they are ready to act. They are literally my everything.

And I really really love the fact that it is how the majority of Tolkien fans see them though there is so little on the page about them. And yes, the canon for the Professor changed it is sometimes hard to determine what truly belonged to it (who is your dad Gil-Galad for example) but I do love the fact that these characters were made by the Professor and us. They would not exist without Tolkien but the fact that they became so layered and loved characters are largely due to fan works which I think is amazing.

elrond as a dad is a concept people don't use enough frankly. just. elrohir and elladan and arwen following their ada around like ducklings. as they grow they keep doing it and it's not uncommon to see three adult elves just shadowing their father whenever they're not off causing chaos.

then arwen leaves and aragorn all but drops on elrond's lap and he picks up on it and now its elrohir, elladan and estel making a line after him. estel gets left behind easily so elrond is in the habit of checking that he's got all his kids following him.

after, in valinor, elrond will sometimes falter, not hearing the familiar steps following his own. even after elrohir and elladan sail, he'll turn every so often and freeze, panicking for a moment because where are arwen and estel? when did he leave them behind? and as soon as that moment is over he's just feeling the loss of them all over again. the twins never say anything, never protest or even seem to notice the sudden stops. they just leave him time to compose himself until he's ready to keep walking.

Not gonna lie, Elrond probably has the BEST case of Dad Lore™️ that has ever existed.

Like one day Elrohir is just helping wrap bandages or some shit and offhandedly mentions a cave he found and Elrond just goes off on a mini tangent of a cave he slept in with Maedhros when he did CPR for the first time and ate an orc raw or some shit. Elrohir just looks at him like ?????? And Elrond never mentions it again.

Arwen will be talking about dwarven trade routes and he will just be like “oh I’m pretty sure that’s where I delivered that dwarven baby after we hid from goblins back in the second age” and then no one knows what’s going on.

I try my best to check things as I'm drawing these for fun, but I realized too late that Arwen's twin brothers are older than her and yet I drew them looking younger... My quick Headcanon Patch that I'm putting on this leaking boat is that because Elves age extremely slowly, her choosing mortality made her grow up much faster than Elladan and Elrohir (who would still look very youthful).

And now my eyes sting.
