Nearly forgotten now, William Haines was once a huge star in Hollywood. He specialized in playing handsome, cocky, young men - who would learn their lesson, and be humbled in the final reel. In 1926, he met the love of his life Jimmie Shields, and the two men took up residence together as a couple. In 1933, Louis B. Meyer told Haines that he had to choose between his career as an actor (which meant taking part in a sham marriage to a young actress) or spending his life with JImmie. Haynes chose Jimmie, left acting, and became one of Hollywood’s most popular interior designers. He and Jimmie stayed together for another 50 years.
