Hey quick question if you're not busy doc. How does one deal with having a partner who has hugely different personal morals when it comes to something big...like killing people?

not busy at all! well, i know someone who isn’t a client that has dealt with this, so i can divulge what they did. the first step is to always always always understand that you can only change yourself. i know there’s something inside of you that wants to try to get the other person to see differently, but you need to reconcile with the idea that person is their own person and their opinions will only change if they want to. now, you can communicate this difference to your partner, and i recommend you at least discuss respecting each other’s views.

past that point, you can either stay with your partner or leave them if there’s no reconciling your differences. it’s not easy, but that’s what i di- ahem- i know what this person did helped them in the long run.

precisely. you can try to change the person, get them to understand you, but you can either stay or go if you can’t reconcile differences or get them to understand you.

okay, first of all, you aren’t an idiot! no one knows everything, and you’re not an idiot for any reason. especially not for your taste in partners. second of all, sometimes we are attracted to diametrically opposed people because we are already surrounded with likeminded people in our familial or platonic spaces. it’s natural, but there are ways to actively push against it if you can help it.

ah, perhaps you were experiencing anxiety and overthinking everything? that’s quite alright. hmm… well, i still suggest speaking with him about anything that bothers you. communicating with your partner or partners is always a top priority in a relationship, it’s better to talk it out than to build resentment. both may hurt, but one is temporary and the other can destroy a relationship. how does that sound?

What about rebuilding trust, after someone breaks it? Like, they did something that kept you physically safe but made you mentally scared. I wanna trust him again, tho, because I love him. Any hot tips?

the first thing i’d recommend is discussing your feelings with that person. you can’t rebuild trust without bringing up how it made you feel. try to use first person statements like ‘i felt scared when you did this’ instead of something like ‘your actions are making me upset’. taking on an accusatory tone doesn’t help anything. all you can control is your feelings and how you bring it up!

after that, i highly recommend you two set some boundaries. you tell your partner(s) what you are and aren’t comfortable doing, then ask what they are or aren’t comfortable doing. set that up and go from there, after that come back to me. i can help once you get there, but i can’t tell you what’ll happen once you communicate feelings and boundaries unless it’s productive.
