The reason why I love brown-eyed, dark-haired and bearded men
On today's episode of bleeding effect, but make it a mild inconvenience, Desmond accidently uses sentence structures in the wrong language. So, using Arabic sentence structure in English or using Mohawk structure in French or something. Anytime he opens his mouth, he just ends up confusing everyone
Pardon if this is not particularly coherent, but I just want to suggest a Desmond who lands I to Valhalla... Except Fenrir was just an Isu, Desmond landed into the era in his younger (maybe just post farm?) body, and teenage Desmond looks a bit too close to Fenrir for comfort. This is probably a no ship idea, I just really want Desmond and Hytham bonding, and Basim/Loki having a breakdown at seeing Desmond. Because Basim is a sassy ass who needs to pay -_-
Oh, is it making Basim suffer time?
(slips you the Basim mindbreak fic)
Is that a thing? Desmond looking like Isu!Fenrir?
I’m still on the side of “if Desmond and his ancestors are sages, he’ll be the Sage of Minerva’s son or maybe Eve”.
Anywwaaayyy.
So, the main point is that Basim has to pay but let’s shake things up so it doesn’t turn beat by beat from our other Desmond gets transported to AC Valhalla idea.
Desmond gets transported to Leicester due to his connection to the place (it’s Maria Thorpe’s birthplace) and he’s there with all his memories but in his sixteen year old body (aka the same body when he left the Farm).
And he’s just trying to get his bearings, stealing clothes because he got there naked (and he has no idea why) when he suddenly hear fighting.
Vikings had come to raid Leicester.
Desmond doesn’t know this, of course. His history lessons could be condensed to whatever American History the Farm taught and the databases Shaun and Rebecca prepared.
All he saw was people with weapons fighting other people with weapons and a lot of unarmed innocents getting mixed in the whole thing.
So he fights them.
Using his ancestor’s bleeds, he manages to disarm one of the men (holy shit, they look like Vikings? Where the fuck is he???) and uses his hand axe like Connor’s tomahawk. He focuses on protecting the fleeing civilians, not caring if he was attacking the Vikings or the guards.
Anyone who looked like they were about to attack an unarmed civilian gets Desmond’s attention.
He realizes soon enough that the invaders are taking orders from a man with a manic smile on his face and he tries to charge him, planning to take him out, but he gets intercepted by a young man who must be around the same age as his current body. They fight but it’s clear that the young man wasn’t attacking to kill him, more to disarm him.
So Desmond gave him the same curtesy.
By the time he had disarmed the young man, the city was lost and Desmond knew he was going to get captured (or worse) if he stayed.
As he ran away, someone starts to chase him.
He was about to get away but he froze.
Because on her arm was a familiar looking gauntlet.
The gauntlet used by Alamut Assassins.
He gets tackled into the ground and just as his attacker unsheathes her hidden blade, they hear the young man shout
“Wait, Eivor! Don’t kill him!”
And that is the day Desmond meets Eivor of the Raven Clan.
.
Things happen. Ceolbert vouches for him and he’s spared because he’s not a guard and he had been saving people. Desmond arrives to join Eivor because she has a hidden blade but it was clear that she wasn’t an Assassin. It was the only clue he has so they travel back to Ravensthorpe and Desmond is hit with nostalgia because they had an Assassin bureau.
A bureau that was quite similar to the ones the Levantine Brotherhood uses.
Eivor introduces him to Hytham and tells him that Desmond seemed interested in her hidden blade.
Hytham takes Desmond in as a recruit.
Desmond goes along with it because it’s his best cover and…
Well…
Hytham might be calling himself a Hidden One but it was clear that he was an Assassin. Maybe the Assassins were called Hidden One before?
Desmond isn’t sure and he’s already busy enough as it is to think about whatever history lessons his Bleeds didn’t cover.
Hytham’s a very cautious man and he wants Desmond to master the basics first before doing any missions.
Desmond plays along because he finds Hytham’s seriousness amusing and this was nice, taking it easy.
When Hytham sees how light Desmond is on his feet and how easy it is for him to freerun, Desmond just shrugs and says he had… brothers.
Brothers who taught him everything he knew.
Hytham sees the grief in his eyes and he tries to be like a big brother to Desmond.
Desmond, on the other hand, naturally gravitates to being a big brother to Hytham thanks to his memories of Altaïr’s relationship with Kadar and Ezio’s relationship with Petruccio.
Everyone in Ravensthorpe just start thinking of them as brothers.
Then Basim came back with Sigurd and sees Desmond.
He looks so much like his son that it hurts.
And seeing the distrust in Desmond’s eyes hurts as well.
Not only that, he could a connection between him and Desmond as well.
And he wonders…
If maybe Aletheia had succeeded in saving their children.
That Fenrir had been reborn as Desmond just like him?
Desmond, on the other hand, feels it too.
It was similar to that annoying itch he would have whenever he was with Eivor but, with Eivor, it was easy to ignore.
Sigurd though… it was a bit hard to ignore but he could still ignore it if he focused hard enough.
Basim though…
All he could feel was the desire to stab Basim.
Something inside him was telling that Basim was dangerous.
He doesn’t know it but his senses knew that Basim was a fully assimilated Sage. He was, for all intent and purposes, already an Isu. And Desmond’s mind has been truly traumatized by his death and he had associated that death with Minerva and Juno.
With the Isus.
So his senses, while he might not fully understand them, sees Isus as enemies.
And Basim…
He swirls as red in his Eagle Vision because of that.
Because of this, Desmond is wary and suspicious as fuck of Basim. He can’t kill him though because he’s well-liked and, as far as he knows, Basim hasn’t done anything yet.
But he’s definitely not going to be buddy-buddy with him.
Everyone sees it but assumes it’s because Desmond’s worried Basim would take away Hytham from him (and they think it’s cute).
Basim sees the distrusts and hostility in Desmond’s eyes and he could feel his heart breaking.
He tries to talk to Desmond, to get him to like him (to get him to remember his life as Fenrir) but it was clear that Desmond was only being polite because it’s what’s expected of him.
But he still tries.
And the more Basim tries, the more Desmond feels unsure of him. His instincts keeps telling him to kill Basim as soon as possible but Basim is kind to him.
Basim is treating him like a son and Desmond’s ‘tense’ relationship with Bill left him too messed up for this kind of thing.
And Desmond knew that was dangerous.
So he keeps his guard up. He keeps being suspicious of Basim.
And that only serves to create this loop of confusion and pain between them because Basim is truly trying to connect with the boy he assumed to be his reincarnated son while Desmond is trying to stop himself from getting too close to someone who may or may not be up to no good.
(Takes the Basim mindbreak fic for another spin
And not as far as I know? But we also see Fenrir as a giant ass wolf most of the time. So who’s to say that he, if he was truly an Isu, didn’t look like Desmond? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Unless we get Ubisoft own up to Fenrir having an Isu-form, we are free to have a flight of fancy This case is just for Basim torturing purposes anyway)
Do pardon me while I gigglesnort over the visual of Valhalla-style sneaking around the bushes, but with naked Desmond who is desperately trying to locate the nearest clothes line / clothing stall. A stray guard hearing a rustle before they are suddenly knocked out, and the last thing they see before they go under is a young Saracen man. By the time the poor guard wakes up in a haystack, the fighting is over, he is missing a shirt, and his head is killing him. He is never going to tell anyone what happened. If people ask, he is going to claim it was at least two Danes who got a jump on him
Desmond, who just managed to scrape together a hodge-podge of clothing that just about fits him, is suddenly very happy he managed to finish his ensemble when he did – because, if he had delayed a bit… Well. The ensuing herding of civilians would have been a much more uncomfortable process to anyone involved (and if there is a voice at the back of his head bemoaning how atrocious he must look, one that sounds a lot like Ezio, well… That’s no one’s business but his own)
I do like the idea that, in the heat of the battle, Desmond just goes along with what is the (possibly) safest route – by defaulting to visibly defending escaping civilians, he is also somewhat reducing hostility towards himself. Mind, that doesn’t last long but in Desmond’s defense – it’s Ivarr. Even if he is on your side, the suspicion factor is strong there. Without any background information it’s easy to assume that he is the guilty party in this scenario. He certainly looks the part
I am, however, loving the mutual-courtesy-almost-bonding Ceolbert and Desmond have going on. Technically, I think Desmond would have had more practice than Ceolbert, but it would nicely even out by the fact that he has to deal with his younger body again. Still…
“You seem like a decent fellow, I hate to kill you”
“You seem like a decent fellow, I hate to die”
And there’d be a moment of almost playful excitement by the time the fight is done. With Desmond standing, Ceolbert on the ground – and possibly, with Desmond helping Ceolbert up. Maybe a matter-of-fact “Good fight” before Desmond tries to skip town
And oh. For some reason, I never ever looked up the character ages. And the only one among them that truly feels young is Ceolbert. I did not even think that Hytham was, in fact, only seventeen? He certainly acts older, and I think the stubble he has on all the time adds to the older look a bit
(not related to talk, but it does make me feel a bit off about the desired Hytham romance xD)
There is one thing I see switching with the game plot in wake of Desmond’s appearance: Basim would switch his attention from trying to find Odin, to trying to get “Fenrir” to “remember”. And see, that would not be such a big issue were it not for one tiny detail: Basim was hyping Sigurd all this time. And now, he is no longer doing it
I don’t think Sigurd would take well to that. In fact, I can see him spiral a little bit faster than he did previously. Possibly searching Basim out and trying to get his attention back, regardless of what the man is doing.
I imagine this would result in a changed dynamic between Basim and Eivor, too. With Basim no longer around Sigurd as much, it would be harder to pin the blame for Sigurd’s behavior on Basim. It’s hard to blame him for Sigurd searching out artifacts, claiming divinity, being unwilling to stay in Ravensthorpe when, by all means and purposes, Basim is in the bureau half the time, trying to bond with the newest addition to the place
Now, if Desmond would just make some noise instead of startling a few years off of her every time he shows up at the longhouse… Meanwhile – Desmond would steer clear of Sigurd. Eivor is one thing – aside from their initial meeting, she and Desmond would have to get used to each other, given that, I imagine, Desmond would travel along with Eivor often. To do recon, to search for Hidden One bureaus, tracking Order members. But Sigurd…
All Desmond would see is a displeased Sigurd, a person in position of authority, who for some reason took umbrage with him. Apparently, because Hytham’s mentor hangs around too much. Except avoiding Basim did not seem to help
Do you think above would affect Dag? With Sigurd being around more often, he would have less cause to blame every single thing on Eivor On a lighter note: Hytham, Ceolbert and Desmond being teens and getting up to no good. Ceolbert having other influences other than Ivarr. Hytham and Desmond talking Ceolbert into being cautious around Ivarr in a bout of Assassin’ bred caution
I feel like the guard would be missing his boots and pants first. Desmond wouldn’t mind showing his titties for a bit XD Wait. I just remembered Desmond has a 16 year old body and that sentence now feels soooo bad (still not gonna delete it though)
Desmond and Ceolbert’s duel is more of Ceolbert trying to block him while Desmond is trying to get used to his new body, that’s for sure. Ceolbert’s more on the defense while Desmond is like a newborn fawn trying to find the perfect balance of “hit them hard” and “stay on your feet” (and also his center of gravity has been thwacked at the moment since he did get taller and bulkier since he was 16)
(It would be funny if Desmond accidentally got like a woman’s undershirt instead of a normal tunic and he doesn’t realize it but EVERYONE else does and they’re just (⊙_⊙) and (・・ ) ?????)
waitwaitwaitwait HYTHAM’S SEVENTEEN??? HYTHAM???
Oh my god.
Just how stressful was it being Basim’s acolyte?
(NOW I’m glad that we set the romance requirement to only after the entire hidden one sidequest. At least, at that point, years must have already passed… hopefully.)
That’s true. Now, it would be up to Sigurd to show if Basim’s influence did push him to the deep end or if it’s Tyr’s memories or… it’s just who Sigurd truly is. (Any of these would be tragic, one way or another)
But also…
Hidden One missions now becoming field trips with mentor Basim and unofficial recruit Eivor and official ‘recruit’ Desmond
If Basim is gonna be visiting the bureau all the time, might as well have him do his actual ‘job’. And this gives him an excuse to try and ‘get to know’ (make him try to remember his past life as Fenrir) Desmond.
I don’t think Dag will change all that much because Sigurd isn’t going to stop going out of Ravensthorpe. The main reason why Sigurd wasn’t around to be jarl was that (his excuse anyway) he was off trying to ally with other lords and other stuff (most probably stuff that would validate his godhood claims). Just because Basim isn’t helping him anymore doesn’t mean he’ll stop.
At worst, he’ll do it on his own.
Additional: Desmond and Ceolbert exchanging letters and Desmond visiting Ceolbert whenever he’s in the area. Maybe Ceolbert would even visit Ravensthorpe and that’s when he’ll meet Hytham.
I don’t know why but I kinda imagine them to be like this:
Desmond is a bad influence on Ceolbert and Hytham is trying to be the responsible older brother.
Okay, that works too. I’d bet that in any case, Desmond would be the one on offense – Ceolbert is getting better here, but he IS an actual teen here, unlike Desmond. That and he may be distracted by the fact his opponent is wearing a nice distinctly floral shirt… Maybe something a young lady would wear to a festival to draw attention of a suitor? I kind of feel bad for depriving some random young fashionista of her tunic, since replacing clothing is harder in this time and age, but… Random lady, I’m sorry. But the idea of Desmond confusing people around him is way too amusing
(…Imagine Ivarr’s realization he has been protected by a brat, from another brat in almost a dress, that was almost successful in gutting him)
And yes! I deliberately went to wiki after you raised the entire “Hytham tries to be an older brother, Desmond acts it”. Hytham is born circa 855AD while Valhalla starts ~872AD. That makes Hytham ~17. Ceolbert has his age in the bio, which is 16. Eivor is 25 at start of game. So by that I’m… Guessing being Basim’s acolyte was pretty stressful? Or hey, maybe it’s bad genes. Or too much sun causing premature wrinkles (in retrospect though, his behavior in the Leap of Faith scene makes more sense. He did act like a cheeky teen flirting with an older lady/lad)
(…Yeaaah. So am I. And Valhalla spans six years if that helps? I mean, depending on how we shift around the timeline/quests, we can have Hytham at least 20 by the time romance starts. Still an 8 years’ difference though. I’m guessing this is why we didn’t get Hytham romance. And Basim probs wasn’t an option because he is 37 at game start – a whooping 12 years’ difference. Tarnation)
Sigurd’s path can be tragic in any of those cases, but – it would also be a fascinating thing to witness.
If he gets better, Eivor and co would have been justified in acting suspicious of Basim. Which means, the attitude towards him would cool among people of Ravensthorpe.
If it’s Tyr’s memories, it’s also going to be noticeable because unlike with Basim/Loki scenario, there is going to be a much bigger disparity in the way the conduct each other. Can be good in some ways (I mean, Tyr is a respected deity in mythology), but can also be pretty bad (Isu are not exactly human friendly)
Going from above though, if Tyr’s memories are resurfacing in full, then Sigurd would also ‘recognize’ Desmond, seeing that Tyr spent a lot of time with Fenrir. Which can affect his behavior towards Desmond. And Basim. This scenario can turn dangerous for the whole Hidden One contingent. And give us a nice opportunity for overprotective Basim and a messy parting with Ravensthorpe
It can be Sigurd himself. And this is where things get fun, because everything is messed up and everything hurts. Family drama all around, with Eivor possibly ending up taking the mantle of Jarl earlier as Sigurd spirals and people of Ravensthorpe no longer feel safe around him
Regarding Basim sticking around more… I can see Hytham being happy around it. And given there was time and opportunity for him and Desmond to bond, Basim sticking around (if only to bother Hytham’s co-Acolyte) would be a pleasant surprise. And with Desmond being shifty around Basim? I mean, I won’t put it past Basim to try and bond with ‘Fenrir’ via Hytham
As a bonus point: sticking around would make Basim more likely to catch any slips Desmond makes. The ones Hytham would not have noted, given that he is pure human with (possibly?) little interaction with Isu tech. Up to and including mentions of Isu – e.g. Desmond would pin Lia Fáil as a piece of Eden straight out, if he was not a part of Irish expedition.
We can just have him make a face when Eivor returns from Isle of Skye and regales them of the artifact she found with Cassandra’s help, and how it affected humans on the Isle
Or something simpler, like Octavian regaling everyone with a myth or several on the feast and Desmond snorting at some points like they were the peak of silly. Something easily dismissed, unless one is looking for specific signs
Technically, you can even swing any potential PTSD Desmond gets from burning at the Temple. As far as we know, Fenrir has been left hurt and bound, and likely perished during the Superflare
Anyway, I can see Basim taking any of the above and misinterpreting it as Fenrir remembering things. That gives him hope and hope, as we know, can be a scary thing Which only makes him stick around more and, to Desmond’s mortification… That makes him somewhat acclimatized to Basim’s presense. He still remembers the unease he felt around Basim at his first arrival, but now it’s dulled and the red is blue-ish around edges and he doesn’t know why
So that makes him more jumpy, for the sheer reason of not knowing what caused the change
On Ceolbert and Desmond: This is a very accurate meme and I shall save it into a separate folder
Hytham is the only serious one among them. He feels eternally vexed whenever Ceolbert and Desmond start sharing THAT look. The kind that means there is going to be some Mischief going on around the settlement that Hytham will have to excuse them from. Or watch to make sure they make up for They definitely are the ones who have found Mouse in this timeline
…Imagine Ceowulf seeing Desmond as bad influence, or being too much of an influence, and trying to find someone to talk about it with. He sends letters to Ravensthorpe, to Sigurd. They end up with Randvi. Who passes them to Eivor. Who just hands them over to Basim to deal with because Eivor is Not Doing It “Just… Talk to your son. Or something”
The good thing is? Desmond is a much better influence on Ceolbert than Ivarr is. Desmond is pretty good at talking and connecting to people – at least on surface level, the kind service jobs require. So he would nudge Ceolbert when needed – how to talk, how to demur, how to push just so
Think that would make for a nice bonding night at the bureau?
And nobody tells Desmond’s he’s wearing a woman’s undershirt. Everyone just decided that the mysterious brat who managed to kill both Vikings and guards to protect people could wear whatever the fuck he wants and they’re just not going to make a big deal of it.
Especially since said sorta-dress is covered in mud and blood anyway.
Oh my god, Hytham’s dorky flirting in the leap of Faith scene now seems like a teenager trying to act cool around his older crush. I can’t believe that makes it all the more adorable???
(Considering we have sugar daddy Haytham who is around 53 when Connor meets him, it’s not the age difference but the actual age when the romance starts that I want to focus on? Honestly, as long as we lock the romance until Haytham is at least 20~21, I’m good. This does make their romance more of a crush/puppy love turned romance which I think would be cute. Basim’s 37 ass is fine. Age doesn’t matter as long as it’s two consenting adults. XD)
Oh shit. I forgot the whole Odin got Tyr to betray Fenrir.
I mean, if we’re Isu-ing Fenrir, the whole arm cut off could be an accident between the three? Maybe Fenrir had been holding some kind of weapon and Tyr tried to take it when the whole ‘disarming’ (hehe, sorry) incident happen.
Sigurd would definitely be suspicious of Desmond and maybe turn downright hostile when his memories of Tyr overwhelm him and Desmond would be left just confused and annoyed by the whole thing.
There might even be some kind of altercation that Sigurd would start. Shit would go down and Eivor would have to choose between Sigurd who has been slowly spiraling and Desmond who has done nothing but be a supportive member of the Hidden Ones and Ravensthorpe. I’m sure Dag would be behind Sigurd all the way but I can see Randvi being quiet, having the same dilemma as Eivor.
Also, at this point, Basim will start to be cold towards Sigurd too because he still believes Sigurd is Odin’s Sage and he’s very protective of Desmond whenever Sigurd is around. Desmond might take that as Basim having the same heebie-jeebie feeling for Sigurd. A bit of brownie points for Basim, maybe?
On lighter things: Family dinners between Basim, Hytham and Desmond? XD
Desmond trying to be cordial because Hytham really likes these family dinners they have while Basim is using this chance to try and bond with Desmond. Hytham knows Basim is treating Desmond like a son but he’s not gonna touch that because Desmond obviously has father issues and Hytham isn’t going to take sides.
Oh, oh, oh, additional ‘evidence’ of Desmond being Fenrir in the eyes of Basim:
any time the subject of gods comes up, Desmond’s easily annoyed and liked to trash-talk Hera/Juno
he’s a magnet for weird Isu shit. Accidentally acquiring a Sword of Eden (Excalibur) but bypassing all the necessary keys needed? It just opened up the moment Desmond came near it.
Desmond hears Eivor’s recollection of her memories of Odin thanks to Valka and his first question is “Are you sure they were visions? Not memories?” and he would ask her specific questions that are the side-effects and experiences he had with the Bleeding Effect and the Animus. Eivor wouldn’t tell Basim about the Odin visions but she will say in an offhanded manner that Desmond once told her he has memories “not his own” and Basim would assume that meant that Fenrir’s memories are assimilating.
Which, in turn, makes him more protective because this means that any day now Desmond will remember everything, that he will remember the pain and suffering he had to go through because of Odin’s paranoia.
(… I just had a thought of how to explain the prophecy of Fenrir being the one to kill Odin. What if Fenrir had been a spy and the Norns told Odin about it? Technically, Loki’s sorta a spy too but maybe the two of them were spies from the very beginning and Fenrir got caught. Maybe Tyr was even his jailer and that’s how they built trust between the two of them? The only other idea I had is that maybe Fenrir may have been autistic and Loki had been hiding him to protect him because the other Isus would consider him… well, a disgrace. Don’t know how to tie that with the Norns ‘predicting’ he would kill Odin though.)
On nicer things:
Or the third option: Hytham trying to stop them from doing something stupid but ends up being dragged to the entire mess and now it’s the three of them doing dumb shit while covering their tracks because no one wants a repeat of Randvi glaring down at them with the look that just screams “I am not mad, just disappointed… disappointed that you all got caught. You three are a disgrace.”
They find Mouse/Dwolfg/Chewy and Desmond just going “I’m adopting him.” because Mouse reminds him of Connor’s wolf form. Desmond might even call him ‘Conny’ if given a choice.
Their idea of a nice bonding night at the bureau without ‘adult’ supervision is Desmond keeping Randvi busy by being his charming self (with a boost from Ezio’s Bleed) while Ceolbert tries to steal food and alcohol. Hytham sees him doing a bad job and helps him out (he will reason he was just giving generic stealth advice). After that, Desmond uses his bartending skills to make cocktails in the middle of 800+ AD.
The next morning, Ceolbert and Haytham experienced what hangover means while Desmond is cursing himself for forgetting about his low alcohol resistance because his body is SIXTEEN.
That just leads us to “Desmond has a horrendous fashion sense by Ravensthorpe’s standards. For some reason it fits him though and no one ever brings it up, but whenever dignitaries visit Hytham makes sure Desmond is in the Hidden One’s getup and not in one of his odd ensembles”
(As for romance, agreed. The important point is when it starts. Mind though, if we are taking it as puppy crush-turned-love, it’s a fantastic opportunity to present it as getting to know the person and still feeling same. Mind, Bioware would have to give Hytham some actual interactive dialogue for that… From the dorky flirting to more genuine dialogue to short cutscenes
And of course Basim’s 37 yo ass is fine, look at the workout it’s getting on daily basis XD But also, dang. After Cent ark you get a real feel of how sassy and snippy that romance would be)
And well. I have a feeling that during the betrayal scene Fenrir would have been at the tail end of his teen years, so a good potential of him trying to finally do something about his imprisonment is high. I’d be seeing a scene where he is holding a sword or the like in slightly shaky hands, acting like a cornered animal. Probably just before he is to be bound with the chain? As a last ditch attempt at freedom?
I don’t think spy!Fenrir option is a good one, seeing that when he introduced in Valhalla, he is still a pup. I guess he would be something like toddler equivalent if he was an Isu. Not the best spy material. I do, however, think Nornir may have calculated him as the person with the highest probability to grow up with ability to take Odin out. Like, if he remains as is, with Loki and Angrboða raising him. Maybe he could have been involved in the Rebellion? With Odin as one of first casualties?
Anyway. Back to Sigurd and Tyr. Now that I had a little more opportunity to feel out what post-Fulke Sigurd is like… Yuck. At this point I imagine there IS going to be an explosion, with Sigurd continuously being pretty harsh at Desmond for no known reason. And he can get harsh, if his judgment on a small quarrel over old sail cloth was any indication. We’d have Desmond getting jumpy around Sigurd, probably avoiding him altogether, which I think would piss Sigurd off even more.
May be just mood for angst raising up, but I want to see it escalate till a fight breaks out, or just an attack, in which Desmond gets either hurt or plain knocked out. Which results in a Bleed. Imagine him being squirreled away either to Bureau or Valka’s hut, and being watched over/visited by Hytham and/or Basim and trying to make out who they are through the Bleed. And since we are evil, let’s make Desmond Bleed Darim
Hytham gets called “brother” and “I thought you dead” (I don’t think we have canon images of Sef? Like with Fenrir, we can play around a bit)
Basim straight out gets called “father”
It’s all in whatever local version of Persian that has been used at Alamut, since we are talking post-Abbas takeover Darim. Probably sometime after it, even, to make Darim thing Basim is Altaїr – somewhere along the time Altaїr decided to grow a beard. I’m also leaving the phrases pretty plain, since, well, there is still a lot of time between Valhalla-era and AC1-era. Why Persian? Because for sure we aren’t going to have Desmond know any Old Norse unless we swing some extra ancestors for him to have. And Isu language isn’t as emotionally impacting (unless?)
And then Desmond goes under again, leaving chaos behind in his wake. Of course, he remembers next to nothing when he wakes up proper
All of this, of course, to have Basim break down around other people because that is the clearest thing yet to connect Desmond to Fenrir (with Hytham mistaken for Jörmungandr). I’m talking whole on hugging tight, face in hair, quiet tears thing
(…We are going to keep Desmond calling Hytham “brother”, in a “sibling” way, because Desmond is a little shit and Hytham is not-so-secretly preens at being called that)
Needless to say, the next thing to happen would be:
And please diregard the light-heartedness of the meme, I mean it in easily perceivable way. As in, the way Basim interacts with Sigurd goes from respecting / meant to placate, to cold almost-mocking. A bit more like Loki, as we see him in Asgard/Jotunheim memories. And not in the same way we see him being around Eivor either - that one was closer to “I think little of you”. This version is “I think you are a treat that needs to be watched out for” Que separate talks with Randvi / Eivor / Valka on what a Sage is and how Hidden Ones dealt with them in the past. Not over, and light on details, but stressing how, in the Order’s experience, they tended to turn out rather volatile (and hey, it seems to be pretty par course for those Sages that did not originate from Asgard - so he isn’t even lying)
Do you really want to give Desmond Excalibur? That would be like, starting an entire war thing because it’s supposed to be for Kind of England thing. Like Lia Fáil for Ireland
And ooh. Desmond coaching Eivor on all the things he did to manage his own Bleeds. And the fun thing is? It helps against Odin. If one squints at it sideways, the entire Sage thing is like controlled Bleed, one induced on person by whatever thing Mead/Yggdrasil did
Desmond getting nagged at too much by someone among Christian allies of Ravensthorpe and spilling something regarding Adam and Eve to them, very Basim-at-Cent style. Eivor gets déjà vu
Desmond saying that mana tastes like shit but it keeps you fed so there is that
Also I cackle a bit over the entire scenario for Hytham/Ceolbert/Desmond you concocted. Because here? Ceolbert as he is, hasn’t had much experience with alcohol. Not unless it’s a mug of mead Ivarr forced into his hand, or light wine served at feasts. Hytham, if he is Muslim, probably doesn’t have alcohol normally (how much Hidden Ones/Assassin’s adhere to the rules, who knows). So the only ‘practiced’ one there is Desmond and he doesn’t have the tolerance
Just the skill
…They may have gotten away with nabbing their things for feast, but they sure are getting the full force of three disappointed adults the next day. After they are dragged out of Bureau with absolutely zero sympathy (probably by Eivor, whose method of sobering people up is to dunk them into nearest coldest river)
Desmond just wearing the nicest woman shirt underneath a Hidden One’s robes and people who get a crush on him (mostly other teenagers he meets and the weird perverts that quickly back away when they see Basim glaring at them promising a long painful death from behind Desmond) blushing whenever they see even just a hint of the shirt underneath his robes.
(Yeeessss. Haytham’s romance would have to be a slow-burn puppy love to mutual respect to something more. Maybe there’s even a hint of Haytham trying to prove to Eivor that he’s an adult and not a child while Eivor has never seen Haytham as a child anyway and Haytham is actually projecting his own insecurities while Eivor’s part is more of a friend-turned-something more for Haytham
And oh yes. The sass and snippiness would be sooo good between the two of them. It could even be their foreplay XD)
I think pup!Fenrir would be more equivalent to a small child? Like maybe 4 or 5 years old? Because I can’t see Loki letting Fenrir alone if he was a toddler (not to mention, there has to be some reason why Fenrir is with Loki and not with Angrboda/Aletheia, maybe they were separated by then and Loki got Fenrir during the divorce?)
Okay, so Isu timeline is a bit iffy when it concerns the scenes with Odin. We know, for sure, that the Isu-human war lasted 10 years before the solar flare happened. And, taking into consideration how Odin was making plans to escape his death (ie the solar flare) in the memories Eivor saw, this means that Odin’s memories should be around, at least, the midpoint of the human-Isu war already. They never said when the Isu became aware of the solar flare though but, if we take into consideration how Aita and Juno weren’t doing anything solar flare related in Atlantis (before the Isu-human war), it is safe to assume that they learned about the solar flare later than that, maybe during the start or midway point of the Isu-human war. Odin also got the mead during the time that Minerva realized the futility of their struggles and was making plans to leave messages to Desmond via Ezio. In this case, this would probably mean that it’s probably towards the end (maybe a year or two at most before the solar flare) so this would mean that Odin should have learned about his impending doom during the final years of the rebellion when every Isu was now focusing on how to survive the solar flare. At this time, he sees young!Fenrir first and, at the end, he sees huge!Fenrir.
So…
I would like to propose an alternative based on that screwed-up made of a lot of guessing timeline…
Fenrir’s size isn’t indicative of his actual age but of how Odin sees him in his memories.
Puppy Fenrir could have been a teenager or a young man who looked unassuming and scared, nothing to be worried about at all.
Then… when Odin sees him again…
Fenrir has become a threat.
He was a prisoner but he was Loki’s child. He’s smart and cunning.
And he found a weak link.
Tyr.
Reasonable and kind Tyr.
What if the entire scene with Tyr betraying Fenrir had been Odin making sure that their bonds would be destroyed? Fenrir is only strong in Odin’s eyes because he was undermining Odin’s rule even though he’s just a prisoner thanks to his bond with Tyr. Maybe the chains aren’t actual chains but a representation of Fenrir’s next cage.
A cell that would isolate him from the entire world.
From Tyr.
And Fenrir realized that and that was why he tried to make an escape.
Tyr’s wound happened because Fenrir believed Tyr had betrayed him, that he had chosen Odin in the end.
On the other hand, Tyr felt betrayed by both Odin and Fenrir because he believed Fenir had attacked him on purpose.
… And this would come back to haunt Sigurd.
Imagine.
Instead of Sigurd being full-on angry at Desmond, it would be more complicated than that. Sigurd would feel this need to protect Desmond because he remembers Desmond as the scared Fenrir who needed him (which may or may not be true or it may or may have been Fenrir being a cunning little trickster like his father) but, at the same time, he remembers Desmond as Fenrir who attacked him and cut off his arm. The Fenrir who cursed his name as he was dragged away to his final cell.
It’s the different images of Desmond that messes up Sigurd even more. More than feeling Eivor would betray him or Basim hiding something.
Desmond makes Sigurd feel so lost, unsure of what he’s supposed to believe.
The desire to keep Desmond safe and away from Odin?
Or the desire to hurt him the way he had hurt (Tyr)Sigurd?
Desmond is just confused and there’s an almost bad-touch vibe to Sigurd’s actions when he’s trying to keep Desmond ‘safe’ (which is Tyr knowing of Odin’s personality and how Fenrir would definitely be hurt if he incurred the all-father’s wrath) and that makes Desmond reject him and try to avoid him at all costs.
Which, in turn, only fans the fires of Tyr’s rage towards Fenrir instead.
And it’s there that Desmond gets hurt because he’s trying to not hurt Sigurd knowing that would screw his place in Ravensthorpe. And that’s when Desmond gets a Bleed that causes him to think Basim is Altaïr but his ancestor is Sef, not Darim soooo…
What if it was when Sef was young and Altaïr had to go out for a mission?
“Brother… father will be back, right?” to Hytham then he sees Basim and goes “Father… you came back.”
(Although Fenrir is noted as the oldest of Loki’s children with Angrboda, he can call Midgardsormen brother in a ‘he’s my brother’ kind of way and not in an ‘i’m calling my older brother ‘brother’’ kind of way)
I kinda want Desmond to remember what happened though but he wouldn’t tell anyone about it. If they ask, he just says ‘I did? Huh.’ in that noncommital ‘it’s not technically a lie’ kind of way. The reason is because it would be more angst-y that way for Desmond. He just Bleed as Sef and he could still feel the longing and sadness Sef felt that day. It wasn’t even one of the saddest things he had felt as Desmond Miles or as any of his ancestors but…
It made him remember just how much he misses Altaïr, Ezio, and Connor. How much he wished they were by his side even if it was as his usual severe Bleeding Effect.
And how guilty he feels that the Bleed made him realize how much he thought of Hytham as a real brother and how easy it would be to just stop being so guarded and let himself accept Basim as a father figure.
How it felt like he was betraying everyone he left behind, Rebecca, Shaun, Bill, and even his ancestors, for having a family here in this foreign time.
Basim undermining Sigurd would be interesting although I see Eivor as being less likely to listen only because her loyalty to Sigurd is a defining feature of hers. She’s the one that Basim needs to talk to the most and maybe hearing what they know about Sages would make Eivor realize that she might be Odin’s Sage.
Oh, ho, ho. Just imagine if Eivor actually tells Basim about it, thinking Basim might help her understand everything while Basim is internally “what? WHAT??? WHATTTTT????”
Excalibur is overrated in AC Valhalla. After how OP the Sword of Eden was in AC Unity, Excalibur is not worth it. Not to mention, it’s not like Eivor and Desmond would realize it’s the actual sword Excalibur (although Merlin did leave a note there) and it’s not like people around England would immediately recognize Excalibur as the actual Arthurian sword. Considering it’s Desmond wielding it, he would probably just say it’s a sword. At best, he’d probably call it something dumb like the Eden Sword.
“I call it the Sword of the End.”
“Why?”
“Because this is your end.”
“………… was that meant to be threatening?”
“I’m working on it! It’s not like I’m good at one-liners!”
Yeeessss. Eivor and Desmond bonding over how annoying it is to keep hearing an asshole annoying you. (Desmond was talking about Haytham XD)
I feel like there’s going to be a debate about Adam and Eve that Desmond is dragged into because he just said that it was a rebellion and now the most devout Christian in Ravensthorpe thinks he’s making fun of their religion.
The mana thing: “Desmond, what’s a cardboard?” “Uuuhh… it… tastes like shit…” “It does?” “(as a man who never tasted cardboard before) Yuupp.”
Oh, oh, oh. Randvi asks Eivor to get the three because she needs to talk to them (about the stuff they stole but Randvi didn’t tell Eivor that) so Eivor gets to the bureau and she knows that smell and that groaning and Oh Gods Randvi is going to kill them.
Eivor is having flashbacks of her and Sigurd having to suffer through Randvi’s glare and, in a bout of panicked solidarity, she picks all three teenagers and threw them into the river.
They think Eivor is punishing them but Eivor is trying to save their lives, damn it!
Also:
A somewhat Bad-ending-ish idea that popped into my head. Except not quite, because I intend to drive the mistaken identity situation even further
Imagine if the situation with Sigurd gets bad enough that the Hidden Ones… Are simply exiled from Ravensthorpe by its Jarl. And when Eivor tries to interfere, because it’s like Sigurd’s judgement scenario – clearly a power trip, and not something that had a reasonable justification – she is told to get out, too. Something Randvi advises Eivor to do, to give Sigurd time to cool off. It’s… Not pleasant all around. The only person truly happy is Dag, and he crows about it to high heavens to anyone willing (and unwilling) to listen
But Basim, Hytham, and Desmond have to pack up and leave. And Eivor goes with them – both because they are friends, at this point, and in one last ditch attempt to show her support
They still have friends. Their work had all but assured that – even if we don’t take Eivor into account, Desmond and Basim (possibly even Hytham, depending on how much recovery time he had) would have been out and about doing things that would have netter them allies if not friends. Not to mention – with Hytham and Desmond’s friendship with Ceolbert, they have an ally in King of Mercia’s court
From there, we have two options: either they make a new spot in one of the allied towns… Or they take over one of the Bureaus that would have been re-discovered by Desmond and Eivor, at this point. That being Lunden, Ratae and Temple of Ceres bureaus (though… Arguably, Ratae is in best shape out of three and is located inside a major town)
Now. Either scenario offers an opportunity for some humor (if one ignores the general angst “exile” may cause):
If they pick a city, and stay in same location for a prolonged period of time, someone is bound to mistake them for a family. Hytham and Desmond can both pass for family as is, and there bound people who would stretch Hytham and Eivor kind-of sharing eye color as a relation. But it’s never stated to their face. No – instead the locals just… Assume. It comes to a point when:
Either Eivor or Basim need to play at seduction with someone (or actually want to seduce someone), only to get disapproving tutting from locals
People trying to hitch their kids to Hytham/Desmond
(Second option offers a moment where Ceolbert is near suffocating from trying not to laugh and offers to introduce them to some people from the court so they are “left alone)
If they pick a bureau, there is the matter of cleaning and fixing it up. Let’s assume funds are not an issue – what cannot be acquired, is ‘invested’ by the allies since they can see a benefit of having Hidden Ones around. Which, fair, given how much information they tend to accumulate about things that aren’t exactly meant to be knows
They still have to clean it up. Which gets harder every time one of the Hidden Ones get stuck with their nose in one of the scrolls and Eivor had to kick them into gear
This is it this is my little blurb I have had tonight
At this point, I think they would go for one of the old bureaus instead because they can’t necessarily be safe anywhere else. Eivor was too well known and that comes with a lot of people wanting her dead and the Hidden Ones should be, well, hidden. The only reason why they have a bureau in Ravensthorpe was because it was ‘safe’ and they were allied with the Raven Clan (not anymore though).
The whole ‘mistaken for a family’ could also be something they specifically did to wave off those who might recognize Eivor. Like something:
“You look familiar… are you-”
“Ah, I see you’ve seen my lovely wife! Isn’t that right… uh… Si… grun…”
Eivor turning to stare at Basim with a confused expression on her face as she nods, “Yes, that would be me. Just… an ordinary… housewife…”
And Desmond and Hytham just joining in because it’s hilarious.
So now… they’re a missionary family with Basim and (surprising everyone) Desmond being able to quote the Latin bible. They’re still looked with suspicion because of how they look but the Christians are easily swayed when they hear that they’re converts and wished to spread the word of god. Desmond is strangely good at leading prayer (thanks to Ezio’s memories)
Viking settlements recognize Eivor by sight though and they believe that Eivor had left Ravensthorpe because Sigurd did not approve of her husband.
Also… cleaning up the bureau will take more time because Eivor would be questioning everything she reads as well. She’s not immune to the whole ‘forgetting to clean because they got distracted by a scroll or a journal’. The moment she get sucked in, no work will be done because she and Basim will have a debate about how this assassination mission or that recon mission should have been done.
(Sometimes, when they get too heated, Hytham and Desmond slip out and wander around for hours)
“Do you think this is the argument that’ll finally make them fuck each other?”
“Desmond!”
“You were thinking it too!”
Ha! The “Missionary family” made me laugh so hard because, honestly? That would be VERY much plausible. At this point of time, Varangian Guard is still very much a thing in Byzantine Empire, and they historically had a lot of Scandinavians in it. And Byzantine Empire shared a border with Abbasid Caliphate. Moreover, Byzantine Empire was one of the grand centers of Christianity. So a Saracen man marrying a Norse woman and converting to Christianity? More likely than one may think. The only thing that may raise questions is “why are they using Latin and not Greek for prayer”, but that can be hand waved away as them knowing they were going to a place where Latin was the language of liturgy
But beside that point – imagine the reactions of the Isu in Basim and Eivor Loki: *disbelieving huffing and reluctant laughter turned cackle*
Odin: “EIVOR NO!” *internal crisis and panic*
Honestly it would make the final moment of realization of “Eivor is Odin’s Sage” so amusing. With Basim taking a poke at Eivor with “To honor and obey, hm?” to cover up the internal dilemma he is now facing
(This version does come along with a clusterfuck that is interactions with Aelfred, if he ends up crossing paths with Eivor in this verse. The Scandinavians over there may know different, but for ye regular person Eivor is Christian and by now can play along well enough, with coaching from Desmond and Basim so…)
And just to clarify: I wasn’t separating Eivor as the one to push on the cleaning because I thought she would not be interested. But given she had been one of those in charge of pushing forward Ravensthorpe development, I have more trust in her ability to keep to end goal
Well. That and I’m not sure how well versed Eivor is in Latin, which most of documents would have been in. So – maybe not at start, but certainly as time goes on and she gets in more practice to keep their cover?
Now Hytham… Hytham I absolutely do not trust not to grab a scroll and settle on top of one of scroll shelving units XD And Desmond having to hunt him down and grabbing him to go and help, because he wasn’t going to do everything himself while Hytham slacked!
But overall? This does spearhead the re-establishment of the order in England. And possibly sets a precedent of them working closely with the rulers of the land? I mean, I don’t see Eivor quitting playing nice with them just because she is not in Ravensthorpe
And moreso now that she is… Somewhat in charge of ensuring their Bureau has the means to run? Well. Her and Desmond, because admittedly, their people skills are better than Hytham and Basim’s. At least when it comes to being friendly with people
…This is now also veering into the “remake Valhalla” thread and it probably shouldn’t. Heh
Imagine a fully restored Bureau though, and quiet evenings in when all of them are in there and not out on a mission. I’m going with Ratae Bureau for this one. Just having a quiet night in, with a simple supper, maybe sharing tea, definitely Eivor singing – and Desmond trying to accompany on an instrument he may or may not have “borrowed” from the camp of some assholes who tried to rob them en route to Ledecestre.
Hytham and Basim relaxing and listening in, chiming in with stories from Caliphate and Byzantine once the singing is done and everything is just – peaceful
I’m taking a break from tormenting Basim in this one if it’s not obvious
Because instead we have a moment where both he and Loki are utterly content
Eivor just replying, “I believe the oath goes both ways. I’m sure our son made sure we use the oath he prepared for us.”
(This might make Aelfred tip his hand earlier too, make it so Eivor realizes that the Poor Servant of God that had been giving them tips is Aelfred himself and… well… that would only serve to complicate things even further because, at this point, Desmond probably know that Aelfred will be the one to give birth to the Templar Order so he has his own agenda concerning Aelfred and he can’t just tell people the future without any evidence or anything that he can use as a base for his ‘theories’)
That makes sense. I supposed I assumed Eivor could read the documents you can find in the bureaus since the Animus translates them for us. But you know what this means? Basim spending time to teach Eivor the language (just imagine Odin and Loki in the background both annoyed at their Sages but definitely not going to commiserate together).
So to give Basim a break:
Without the need to make allies, there would be more quiet moments where Eivor and Basim can just spend some quality time… ‘learning’.
While Desmond and Hytham do something dumb that no one would be able to pin at them.
(Well, they’ve been more or less exiled from Ravensthorpe so uuuhh… have this instead?)
Basim actually starts to forget that Desmond is his son’s Sage and see him as his second troublemagnet son. Sure, Desmond is the best in keeping their missionary family act intact but the problem with him being a troublemagnet is that he’s really good at it.
Too good at being a troublemagnet.
Basim has no problem with Desmond actually killing members of the Order of the Ancients but… getting kidnapped by Aelfred was just too much. It caused all three of them to rescue him, only to find him having tea with Aelfred because… well… the king just wanted to talk to the young missionary with such deep knowledge of the bible apparently.
(Desmond is screaming and trying to choke his Bleed of Ezio and his goddamn Catholic upbringing)
And when they finally left, Desmond admits that he was contemplating if he should kill the king or not.
Not because he was a member of the Order (allegedly) but because… well…
“I feel like it, I guess”
(sidebar: the truth is Desmond realizes that he was talking to the man who would create the Templar Order and is wondering if it’s worth killing him and changing history or is he risking the possibility that his ancestors would not be born because of this?)
(Side-sidebar: Said king absolutely wants to recruit Desmond in his future Templar Order as a Grand Master)
From @fromashesweriseuphiddenones
Desmond possibly being recruited to the order as a grandmaster? Oh Haytham Kenway would be proud.
Desmond would say ‘thanks, I hate it’ XD
I’m not sure if you mean Desmond would be around 5~6 years old or if you mean he’d be 15 years old XD
So we’ll go with super young just to screw with everyone.
At that point, Eivor would bring Desmond because the little shit tried to kill her and she believes that he has potential and he did say he was an orphan.
Desmond insists this was kidnapping.
He stays because Hytham looks like an Assassin and he wants to understand what’s a Hidden one and why does he and his Bleeds have no idea at all that they actually had an organization that served as their predecessor and not just… random people they call proto-Assassins because they did something the Brotherhood would have done.
Ravensthorpe spoil him because he doesn’t bother trying to act like a kid and helps out whenever he wasn’t bothering/spying on Hytham.
Hytham believes Desmond is spying on him because he thinks being a Hidden One is cool (which Hytham agrees with)
Desmond thinks Hytham should have someone with him, a fellow Assa- Hidden One. Where the hell was his mentor and why did he leave Hytham alone? Even if he did trust Hytham would be find, leaving the poor boy (the fact that Desmond is mentally older than Hytham makes him treat Hytham as someone younger much to everyone’s amusement and Hytham’s resignation) alone to take care of what was definitely the only bureau (that Desmond knows of) for all of England.
Then…
Basim returned with Sigurd and he saw Desmond.
“Fenrir?”
Desmond just stares at him in confusion because why the hell was this random dude calling him by a mythical wolf’s name?
As they stare at each other, that’s when Desmond recognized it.
Something about Basim that screamed to him…
He’s an Isu.
He’s an enemy.
I felt a disturbance in the Force
It was sudden and jarring. And it called me here
If we are starting at the same point - Leicester, Eivor deciding to bring with the "tiny, feral child" Desmond with would be damn amusing! If only for the sheer amount of cursing from Ivarr. Having one's hamstrings cut isn't fun
(Desmond would have gone for the thigh artery, if only he were taller. Coordinating a child's body was way harder than a teen's - it didn't even offer nearly enough stamina to persist through sheer stubbornness!)
Of course Eivor would find it charming. She can be pretty good with the Clan's kids, and here she had a little drengr-to-be on her hands! With no one to lay a claim on him! One that looked more like he was of Basim and Hytham's ilk, than of any of the local's.
Mind, I think in this scenario she would clock on that something is off with Desmond much sooner than she would have in the teenager scenario. It is one thing to see a teen emulating Hidden Ones. It is another to have a younger child scrutinise her hidden blade as though it is familiar to him. It is different when a child recognizes the symbol Eivor had only seen used by the Hidden Ones
And given that indentured servitude/ slavery wasn't exactly unknown to either Nords or Abbasids...
Naturally, she connects the (wrong) dots and assumes Desmond is a (stolen) child of a Hidden One
That is one of the primary reasons ahe offloads him to Hytham. The fact that Desmond seems to be comfortable in the bureau, and tends to shadow Hytham? That Desmond, sometimes, slips and mentions Alamut?
Yeah. Those do not help
The moment Basim first lays his eyes on Desmond, when he looks both utterly shocked and cautiously hopeful? It's a final click that makes her assume that the ulterior motive Basim had all the while for trailing Sigurd, was, in fact, Basim trying to find his son
(I mean. The assumption is so close to the Loki's actual story, just applied to the wrong person - that the tension between Eivor and Basim that has been brewing for half the fame would melt away pretty fast. Basim would scramble to adapt Loki's tale to 'modern' world, and it would just play into all the assumptions Eivor had about Deamond.
I mean - Fenrir was also taken from Loki pretty young, kept separated, assumed perished before Loki. It wouldn't even contradict the camp scene much)
You know. I can honestly see things going much better for Hidden Ones in this AU. Humanising them in the eyes of the Raven Clan?
Meanwhile, Desmond would simply like for someone to explain what the heck is going on and for the clearly-Isu man to stop being clingy. All the red was giving him a headache that could almost compare to bleed-induced ones
I have finally surfaced from the deep waters of Baldur's Gate that had me drowning for the last few months
And so, I have moved on to Assassin's Creed: Mirage
It's interesting how much it ifeels both like AC1 and AC: Origins at once. Yet you can still tell it was supposed to be a Valhalla DLC - the movements, NPC behavior (unless they are the named ones), even, to a point, the environment - reminds me of Valhalla
And yet they somehow managed to fit the mission style (at least so far) that resembles ACII into it. And finally! There is way more clutter that you can climb all over
Now
To the story itself
Baby Basim is adorable and should be protected at all costs. And should not be allowed to go without a beard
Mind, I'm not even done with the first major assassination - so that may well change yet. But right now? He reminds me of a mix of Ezio and Bayek, leaning more towards Bayek. Which makes my Bayek-loving heart beat faster.
But you can definitely tell he is his own character, still. For one - I don't think I've ever spent as much time pickpocketing people as I did here. Just going around Bazaar and nabbing the shiny golden pouches? Feels natural with Basim. And fun. I already have the achievement for it, one play session in
Stealth is another thing entirely... I'm not sure it's because I switched to a narrower keyboard recently, or is it me being rusty with AC games - or maybe even because it's intended as such. But Basim definitely feels like a glass canon. Parkouring? Assassinating? Those feel VERY comfortable, even without any substantial long-range weapon (like the bows we had in the three previous games). There are plenty of places to hide and plenty other options to use instead of taking the direct fight. But direct fight? I'll have to try and change the keybindings for dodge and parry just to make sure it's not due to keyboard - but direct fight feels lousy. Not because you can't do it, but because Basim seems to take so much damage
I'm very eager to see how Caravanserai mission will turn out
Part of a piece I’m working on but I was proud of this Desmond ;-;
Assassin’s Creed II Concept Art | Florence and the Italian Countryside
A silly comic why William Miles was kicked out of the Brotherhood. 😆 Bayek has no tolerance for abusers.

Me playing today:
I sWEAR...
@teecupangel this is very much you XD
This is my humble plea to have a bathrobe outfit in AC Mirage
basim got to know william through desmond even if desmond doesn't remember him
A terrible thought visited me today and would not leave. Thus, I am left with no choice but to inflict it on others:
Elijah was born an ordinary-ish boy
But instead, we have a convoulted Aita/Desmond, wherein Aita's thoughts started to stray in all the worst ways when he witnessed calculations. And Desmond's role in them
Reaching modern times has been the goal: agreeing to Juno's initial experiments and then, to take the mead - was all just the means to do so
@teecupangel tags:
#so this means that desmond gets to be aita’s sage #but desmond’s sage-ness gets whacked by his isu:human gene ratio#and if aita knows about desmond #that would mean all his other sages#who received his memories #would know about desmond #that would change bartholomew’s actions to edward kenway #and even their whole priority #from juno to desmond #would this make juno stop from getting desmond killed? #and change her plans #to make desmond remember all of aita's memories? XD
I admit that this is not what I have been thinking when I wrote that post. In fact, I was thinking more along the lines of "Aita Sage stalking Desmond" but by Isu, I like your version more
Granted, I would also like to see how Mirage played off the Isu taking over/communing with their host. Just on top of Odin/Eivor experience. Because I meant it when I said Aita's aim was to end up with Desmond - either as host or companion. Consider it a... Twisted kind of crush/care?
It would be even more interesting if the Sage memories start to awaken in Desmond AFTER he is kidnapped by Abstergo. First, to do as we do and tormen out dear with even more doubts as to his sanity, and second - because of the ample opportunity to have Aita seethe in rage. Maybe subtly take over and do something to animus?
Speaking of - it WOULD change the other Sage's actions towards Desmond's ancestors - but I'm not sure it would be too big a deviation. For the simple reason of - certain things still need to happen, as far as Aita knows, for Desmond to be born. Maybe less outright betrayal, more pigtail pulling? However - imagine the memories glitching midview because suddenly the rest of Sages got memories of Desmond and the timeline is adjusting on the fly. Oh the shock, oh the terror of all and any techns taking care of Animus
Interestingly enough, I am of teo minds of whether Juno would work to save Desmond or not. On one hand - she is the type that seems like she would, given how much she did to keep him alive. Seeing it as the best way to get her spouse back, up to and even omitting referring to Desmond as, well, "Desmond"
On the other hand - the first opportunity for them to truly meet would be in the Vault under Vatican, and I can see Aita taking sharp offence to her trying to control "their" body. That may or may not be a catalyst to fallout, wherein Aita is more invested in keeping Desmond than rekindling... whatever, with Juno
A terrible thought visited me today and would not leave. Thus, I am left with no choice but to inflict it on others:
