( . . . ) "Please, my back. I’ll pay you, just hurry."
Seated by her worn desk, her elbows propped up lazily on the surface of it, her face cradled ungracefully in her open palms -- she was tracing the carvings caused by rough treatment over the years with her eyes; lost in her own world as she had finished all the paperwork for today. No one needed help either, it seemed. She had tried to butt in on an examination earlier, but had only been shown the door. With a heavy sigh, she twirled some of her hair around one of her fingers, her gaze fixed on it as if it was even remotely interesting. Just when she thought this day was done for, the sound of someone making their way through the hallways snatched her attention and she moved over to the doorway immediately and as she saw the two Fireflies guiding the foreign woman, she pointed over to one of the rooms across from her office, if you could even call it so, before turning on her heel and fetching a pen and her notebook. The Fireflies tried explaining themselves as she made it past them and into the patient's room, but she only waved them off; notifying it was okay. Putting on her brightest smile, she stepped up to the smaller person, her mouth opening to greet her patient like she usually did but the other forestalled her. The sound of her voice had Stephanie's throat swell up and she instantly clenched her jaw, her hands clutching onto the notebook to keep her from swatting the woman in front of her. Instead, she poured every milligram of bitterness and disgust into her next words; spitting them out venomously. "You dare showing your repulsive self here -- and expect my help?" She flipped herself around before marching out of the room stubbornly. "Get it elsewhere, wanker."

"Ah, shit," she cursed silently to herself, that last sneeze took her completely aback, she even halted in her steps. "That one was hardcore," she added, her hand reaching up to rub at her nose as she started her pace again, making her way through the trees easily. It's funny how it all looked familiar to her now; she remembered a few years back, maybe two, when she'd just built her new home and barely made it home. She remembers getting lost and walking around for hours more than she actually had to. She sniffled; the sound reminding her of her current check-list. Get home and get some proper medicine and warmth so this silly autumn cold won't develop into something worse. It was about time anyway. She'd been sleeping far too much back at the hideouts. The rays of the sun bounced off something metallic in the distance and her first reaction was to stop in her tracks and hold up her hand to shield her eyes. "What the-," she mumbled quietly to herself as she squinted to get a better view of what was ahead. It looked like a person... on the ground. She instantly reached down to her thigh-strap to pull out her pistol. She imagined it looked kind of silly, 'cause she wasn't really good with a gun; she barely knew how to hold the thing. It was for emergencies only, and gosh, she hoped this wasn't one. Taking a few careful steps towards the body lying on the ground, her gun aiming straight at it. "Hey! You alive over there?" Her voice didn't sound nearly as confident as she'd like it to, but when she didn't get a response that meek fact washed away. What if it was an Infected? She hadn't really seen one before. Not in real life. What would she do? Shoot it in the head? Run? Shoot herself before she'd suffer any further? She didn't know. She bravely moved closer. At this range, she could see that there were no fungal growth on him and his chest was visibly moving -- her gaze further scrutinized the body of the man before her before she let out a soft gasp. There was a lot of blood. A whole lot of blood; more than she'd seen in a while, and with that she put her pistol back in her home-made holster before crouching down to check his pulse; relieved it was beating, though very slowly. With some struggle, she managed to pull him over to a tree, leaning him against the trunk of it in a sitting position. "What do I do with you, huh-?" Her hand reached over so she could press her wrist against his forehead, wincing at the obvious fever coursing through him. With a sigh, she shimmied out of her jacket and tried to cover up as much of him as she possibly could before standing again. "Now, you wait right here, okay? Don't go anywhere," she said to the unconscious man before taking off towards her treehouse to get some antibiotics from her stash; her cold completely forgotten.

She never liked the taste of cigarettes. Not these ones, at least; they tasted cheap and sloppily produced. Yet, she'd gone through almost half a pack these past few days, and luxuries like a whole pack of cigarettes she usually spent weeks, maybe months finishing. Maybe it was the stress from work. Seeing all the injured people. Seeing people dying between short intervals. Friends, co-workers, acquaintances, and of course people she barely knew... But lately, there hadn't been too many failures. There'd been few major wounds this past week and a half, so her recurring anxiety felt misplaced. She was torn out of her devising as a high-pitched chirp resounded through the lifeless hallways of the Fireflies' hospital. "Miyoung! This greenie got his ass beat and my hands are full at the moment!" Rolling her eyes at that, almost in a playful manner, she took one last drag of her stress-reliever before capping it against the concrete that framed the window she was halfway hanging out of before slipping it into the pocket of her cloak, knowing it already reeked of burnt tobacco before turning on her heel and making her way towards the voice. "On my way," she said, knowing the bare walls would carry her voice to the room she was heading towards. Taking the turn into the pathetic excuse of a reception, she was guided by a nod towards a young man, probably around her age, but that's everything she really bothered to notice about his appearance before her gaze darted to his arm, covered in blood. Sending him an apologetic look, she bowed her head politely before greeting him. "Hello there, mister. I'm Stephanie, but if you find that hard to pronounce, you can call me Miyoung. Now, please follow me," she turned and started a pace towards one of the more private rooms, even though private wouldn't really be the right adjective as there were no doors, while she continued her usual welcoming speech: "And don't mind me asking; this is standard procedure, but were you in close contact with an Infected before, while or after you got this wound, sweetie?"
