hm…..ronan slowly making excuses for not calling adam in call down the hawk….don’t make me push the button…….
i was thinking about ronan lynch's mental health and how that is being represented in dreamer trilogy and how a lot of people don't care or just don't realize it, like his self-destructive behavior and eco-terrorism is extolled by some people. that's because it's not fully explicit, common thing for maggie to apply only subtext and implicit stuff.
to find the root of ronan's problem is to debate a lot the topic of codependency that the character has that can be observed since in trc with his relationship with gansey and with his admiration for his father. the goal of dreamer trilogy is to bring independence and autonomy to ronan, breaking the "fantasy" and bringing the reality of maturity and that people grow and that the future is close whether you like it or not.
as i've seen many times, they try to blame adam because he didn't reply to a text in minutes (and we later found out that adam replied yes to the text, ronan didn't have a cell phone because he threw it away). there are misinterpretations of some people related to this trilogy, ronan is not a reliable character precisely because of his mental illness. the fact that he blames other people, feels isolated and alone and wants to destroy the world, is what his psychological problems cause. maggie stiefvater has already said that all of ronan's decisions in mister impossible are bad (she said on reddit), his relationships with new characters are somehow 'unhealthy' too, etc., so the way she brings those points into the story they are metaphorical and complicated and liable to be misunderstood by some people, but they exist in story.
just wanted people to understand that, because that's what most fans don't care about, they just say and do shit and nonsense things with the characters, and that saddens me, fiction serves to show situations that occur in real life, who represent real people, real problems... if you don't mind that, i'm sorry for you, just be more understanding and decent people.
obviously i have more things to write about as it is a long and complex subject, one day in the future i will write more about it.
Ugh you ever think about how repressed Ronan was, how he’d been taught from such a young age to bury his dreaming, literally
And when he finally told his friends, they embraced it wholeheartedly? Like, Gansey especially was so psyched for him??
“Dream me something new for every night”? Can you imagine how that must have felt after sharing his dreams and hearing “Bury it forever?”
TRC fandom thinks Adam Parrish is a sweet soft boy forgetting that this kid murdered a man, framed another man for some of the vilest crimes known and is also portrayed to be the coldest, most ruthless of all them.
Tired night ramblings because I’ve been in a big pynch mood and have been thinking of them a lot these past few weeks
I love how it’s canon that when Ronan does things for Adam, Adam doesn’t object to it. Ronan doesn’t have to hide that he’s doing something for Adam either, it’s just such a natural thing. He’s comfortable letting Ronan do things for his benefit.
If Adam does respond to it, it’s always about being polite and he never insists on it. When Ronan gets on the bike and instructs Adam how to avoid his trauma based defense system, Adam says “You don’t have to do this for me.” But doesn’t reject the offering and doesn’t insist he can handle it.
I also love when they go to the barns in BLLB. Ronan gifts Adam a plum and then carries everything in the barn. Adam accepts the plum and doesn’t insist he also carry things. It’s just “Do you want me to carry one?” “Fuck, no.” and he doesn’t push it or insist that he can carry shit too, just gets the door.
Ronan gives and does so much for Adam and Adam accepts all of it. If he does respond to it, it’s not out of defensiveness or insistence that Ronan is doing too much for him or shouldn’t do things for it, it’s just a courtesy thing. He accepts Ronan’s gifts and acts of service, but still wants to be courteous towards him and I love that too.
It’s interesting because sometimes fandom portrays Adam as minding, or Ronan having to go out of his way to find out how to give Adam things without offending him, but in canon Ronan gives Adam more gifts and does more for him than possibly any other ship in the whole series. (Though Declan might be trying to give him a run for his money on that haha.)
And Adam accepts all of it! And I love that for him! This boy went from not accepting anything, being weary of everyone, overthinking every kind gesture, to just…accepting and being comfortable with it all. He accepts Ronan’s help moving him out of the trailer, Ronan driving him around, the help with the rent, the hand lotion, the plum, Ronan carrying everything, the fancy watch, the motorcycle, Ronan’s entire childhood home which he’s clearly made himself at home in and it makes me FEEL THINGS.
He also is so open and vulnerable with Ronan, as noted by Declan. Ranting to Ronan barefoot about his college anxiety after being rejected by his top choice, asking Ronan to remind him that ‘it might not be what you imagined, but it’ll be just as good’, continuing to crow to Ronan about his college anxieties after being accepted, telling Ronan that Ronan not caring if he dies isn’t okay with him, “I need food, sexy times, and to check out this weirdo Bryde”, asking Ronan to ‘be here for me’, telling Ronan he is making time as best as he can, making it clear that he strongly prioritizes Ronan and their relationship, answering Ronan’s texts and calls immediately when he’s able, and telling Ronan that Bryde and the Lace scare him at the end of MI.
Adam always being able to just exist as he is without worry or shame or fear or overthinking every little god damn thing. Just carelessly leaving his soda can and clothes lying around Ronan’s house, working on his broken down car in front of Ronan’s house and driving around the BMW as if it’s shared between them, having discussions about whether he’d take it to school with him, asking Ronan to dream him up a fix for his car so he can come back.
There’s so much to love about this ship and I could go on and on and I do in my head, but I think I’ll stop here.
G’night.
I just. I just can’t stop laughing whenever I read that passage where Ronan is really struggling internally so Adam is like. Ok. Ok. I’m going to be Empathetic and Ask Questions:
Just sends Ronan into a complete crisis. A complete mental breakdown, worrying about dreaming his mother back as a zombie???? Killing all living people in his dreams bc Adam accidentally planted the seed of potentially dreaming them back???
To the point his ONLY GOOD DREAM is utter destruction with no living beings in it, I just…
He’s literally WAKING UP WITH A GOOD NUMBER OF DEAD BODIES of his loved ones at this point, and then I assume the short story Opal happens (because he probably didn’t want to dream of KILLING THE PEOPLE HE LOVES)
and Ronan thought this was completely mentally healthy, omg no wonder Ronan went batshit in Mister Impossible?? He’s been losing it for a while, honestly blowing shit up w Bryde and Hennessy was probably ten million times healthier than whatever the fuck was happening at the Barns
ronan: **does something stupid**
blue, leaning over to adam: are you absolutey sure you want that one? we can get a better one.
adam: **sighs in defeat** i want that one
Adam:
i hope august burn in hell after choking on his saliva this season so i can watch it in full hd
the Young Royals fandom the SECOND the cast even makes a vague allusion to a season 2 renewal:

"Declan started hating me first," Ronan said. "In case you were wondering. So that wasn't me." (TDT chpt 22)
I can't stop thinking about these words. The reader knows Declan never hated Ronan. Matthew knows it. But Ronan really believes this.
I've always thought Ronan's treatment of Declan as learned behavior from his parents, along with anger about how Declan enforced Niall's will. But how much had it's start in some original hurt.
The author has shown us the origin of this belief. In MI, Ronan remembers being a little boy and being sent out to play with Declan. There was a flock of starlings, and Ronan was overcome with joy and wonder seeing them take flight. He wants to share this with Declan. So Ronan, never good at putting his feelings into words, says "I'd like a bird army!" (MI chpt 35)
And Declan rejects this, saying he doesn't think that's very interesting, and turns back to the house.
Ronan has always been a generous soul. He loves to share things with his friends, including his joys. You see that all through the Raven Cycle. At this point in Ronan's life, isolated on a farm as he was, Declan was his only friend. So Declan rejecting this must have devastated him.
Of course, the author cleverly gives us Declan's POV in the Christmas story. Turns out, Declan's been sitting up at night, every night, trying to prevent Ronan from manifesting his dreams. Declan's horribly afraid of Ronan's dreams, afraid he'll create a monster, afraid Ronan will get hurt, afraid he'll get hurt. Declan is tired, sleep deprived and very, very scared. So all Declan can imagine is what would happen if Ronan manifested a bird army. How dangerous it would be. How he would get stuck cleaning up the mess of a thousand birds.
So how much of this could have been prevented if they had only had responsible parents. Niall was hardly ever there. Aurora was made to "love . . . in a fashion specific to the object of her affection"(TRK chpt 7), but I'm not sure she was made to parent in the way her sons needed to be parented. Had Ronan had been allowed to talk openly about his dreams so he didn't feel so alone; had Declan been allowed to talk openly about his fears; if someone had made sure he was getting enough sleep, and not making him clean up after other people's dreams. If someone had looked after both boys' safety, just think how much better Ronan's and Declan's relationship might have been. (I refuse to think Niall couldn't have dreamt some sort of object to alert them to Ronan's dreaming).
But then we wouldn't have had Matthew. And that would be a pity.
I want a scene where someone (I don't care who. Just some sort of pathetic and arrogant a**) fights against Zoro and somehow manages to get Enma in his filthy hands and tries to wield it against Zoro and Enma just F***ING SUCKS ALL HIS HAKI OUT OF HIM LEAVING A COMPLETELY DEFEATET AND UNCONCOUIS MAN ON THE GROUND and Zoro just takes his sword out of his hands and says something like "Go back play with your bamboo sticks" i would f***ing faint!!!
🤲❤️
So, after focussing for so long on only trc and tdr i am proud to announce my newest obsession: Young Royals! Holy sh** i am so in love with this show. But i will also post about my flagship of fandoms and shows: One Piece. So be prepared...
Rules for dreamers.
"Dreamers are to be classified as weapons."
Ronan already knew he was a weapon; but he was trying to make up for it.
I was thinking about the dream that Ronan had in chapter 3 of TRK. Why did Ronan dream this? Prior to this, I would have said Ronan's personality was weaponized, but not his dreams. But not long before, in BLLB, Ronan dreamt the evidence to pin on Greenmantle as revenge for murdering Niall, in the previous book. Ronan thinks about it later:
He had to live it to manifest it. Ronan had felt as if he would never be clean again. Even in the dream, he was disgusted with himself, and with that disgust and shame came his old enemies, the night horrors. (CDTH chpt 50)
This was a pivotal moment for Ronan. A loss of innocence, so to speak. Even though Greenmantle completely deserved the revenge Adam designed and Ronan delivered, that was the turning point when Ronan realized he could use his dreams to hurt others.
And yet he doesn't back down from it. In CDTH, he creates the security system, and by MI, Ronan is thoroughly weaponized. Ronan hates himself, he hates the world which has failed to accommodate him. And I think he also is beginning to hate his own memories of an idyllic childhood at the Barns, which belie a much more complicated reality than he likes to remember.
But dreamers do not have to be weapons. Nathan Farooq Lane appeared to be one, but not Rhiannon or the old lady with the Teapots, or Cámhoin Browne. Is this because their dream ability is more limited? Or because they are more at peace with themselves? Can Ronan choose to step down from being a weapon? I would think so.
But still, it begs the question: in MI, if Ronan is the weapon, WHO is wielding him?
