Can I request some domestic Dimitri headcanons? Perhaps him being a father or reaction to his s/o or byleth giving birth? He seems like the type of guy who would be terrified of touching, let alone holding, a newborn.

Not doing anything related to birth, but i can do him being a father!

It takes a while for Dimitri to fully realize that he’s become a father. Maybe it’s because he’s never thought of himself living long enough to see it happen or that he wouldn’t be able to find someone to love him for all that he was. As he holds his child in his arms however, all his fears and worries have left him, instead being replaced with joy and hope.

Because of his own youth, Dimitri is noticeably protective of his child(ren), but not too much. Yes, he worries a lot, but that doesn’t mean he’ll end up taking too much control of the kids life. If he does end up unintentionally being a little too overprotective, then you can be sure his s/o will let him know this. 

He can be a little distant to his child(ren) at times, often being accused of being lost in his own thoughts. Whether it’s because he still can’t believe he’s a father or that his s/o has managed to put up with him for so long. Although sometimes, it’s just him stuck in a euphoric daze with him thinking just how lucky he is now. It’s something he’ll always be grateful about. 

If he has a daughter, he’s wary around others sons, but not to the point of outright threatening them. He’ll allow them near her as long as they have good intentions. When they’re kids? No harm, no foul. When they’re teenagers? Oh that’s when it scares him. He’s been a teenage boy, he knows how Sylvain was/is and it worries him to no end. His little girl getting her heartbroken would break him more than he’d like to admit.

If he has a son, he would raise him to be heir, but not put much pressure on it. He wants his son to have a calm childhood and be in no rush to inherit the throne. Sure, when he grows older, it’ll change and he knows he’ll have to teach his son the responsibilities and duties that come with being king but…when he’s still young, Dimitri can relax for awhile. 

Being a father is stressful, but he wouldn’t give it up for anything in the world. With his s/o by his side, he’s just so…happy. Like a weight has been lifted off of him. This is the future he’s wanted and when he hugs or holds his children, he forgets about his past and focuses on the future. He’s a changed man and hopefully someone his kids can look up to now.

I’m gonna come out and be honest… I… I had to look up the word “diminutive” and from what I gather, it’s like a nickname/form of intimacy. I hope I’m right, because that’s how I’ll be taking it! Personally, I like calling Dimitri “Dimi” Since it’s sounds sweet in my opinion, so that’s the one I’ll be using. I hope you enjoy! Also, if I misunderstood your request, feel free to send me a second ask! I’ll also be doing this one pre-timeskip!

Dimitri x Reader - Dimitri realizing he’s whipped by s/o (Pre-timeskip)

You and Dimitri were both relatively new to this whole dating thing, it hasn’t been that long since the two of you had confessed and gotten together; only about a month ago since it happened. So it didn’t take much to fluster the man, something you found yourself enjoying all too much.

The two of you were walking around in the market together, a list in one of your hands and his hand in the other. Professor Byleth had sent you both on the errand of buying some supplies for your class, since they had been busy planning next weeks lesson. Neither of you particularly minded, it felt more like a date than anything as it gave you both some much desired alone time.

You glanced down at the list in your hand checking over the contents again. “Dimi, I think we should get some of the smaller things on the list before we get the bigger things. It’ll be much more convenient that way, since we’ll have an easier time navigating through the market, the smaller the things we carry.” You suggested, looking over at him for approval.

He hummed and nodded in response, “Yes, that seems like the best thing to do in this scenario- Wait. What did you call me?” His head quickly shot over towards you, mouth gaped open, with his expression looking confused.

You laughed at his response, “I called you Dimi. It’s short for Dimitri, I’ve heard that a lot of couples give each other nicknames as a form of intimacy! I think it sounds really cute, don’t you? If you don’t like it, I could change it though! I’d never want you to be uncomfor-”

He quickly shook his head, his cheeks flushed as he waved his other arm in dismissal. “No no no, I like it!” He cut in, before you could say more, “It’s just my first time hearing something like that. But I like it, it sounds nice coming from you. A nickname for intimacy, you say?” He thought for a few moments, tilting his head upwards,  “…Yes, I briefly recall Sylvain rambling on about something like that once. I should come up with one for you as well, it’s only fair of course, but… I’m afraid anything I come up with won’t be nearly as endearing as what you’ve come up with for me.” He smiled gently at you, raising your held hand to plant a kiss on it.

You smiled softly at him, “You don’t have to come up with one if you don’t want to. I’m more than happy to be called your love. But regardless of what you decide to call me, I’m sure I’ll love it because it came from you, Dimi. That’s what matters most to me. Besides, just being able to hold your hands like this, and spend some time alone together? It means so much more to me than words can possibly ever convey. You don’t need a fancy nickname to show your love for me, Dimi, it’s just one of the many ways I want to show my love for you to you!”

Your response was so wholesome, so simple, yet it sent his heart beating and it took his breath away. The way the sun shone on you made it look like you were sent from the heavens above just for him, shining on you in an ethereal way as the wind blew through your hair caressing it ever so slightly. That smile on your face was the most loving and perfect thing he’s ever witnessed; you were beautiful in every aspect in his eyes.

Your laughter is what shook him back to reality, your affectionate eyes looking towards him as a blush spread across your cheeks, “Dimi, the way you’re looking at me right now… I can’t help but to act giddy like this!” You had glanced away from him briefly, feeling shy over the way his eyes looked at you. Turning back to him, you leaned in, gently pressing a kiss against his cheek before pulling away quickly, as your face flamed up even more than it had earlier. “Well, I see one of the shops we have to go to, they sell vulneraries there!” You skipped your way over to the shop, happiness in every step before you stopped, gesturing for him to follow you with a grin on your lips.

His lips were curved upwards, his eyes soft as he watched you. ‘It would appear that I’ve fallen far deeper in love than I had initially thought. I’m not sure I deserve such love and affection from someone so wonderful like you, (y/n). But I’ll do all I can to protect and cherish you as much as I can.’ he thought before jogging to catch up with you again, taking your hand in his once more as he gently tugged you closer to him.
