One time I wrote to the author of “It’s Kind of a Funny Story,” a book about a kid who was suicidal, and I opened up to the author about my own struggles with depression. He wrote back to me and we were pen pals for a bit. I’ll never forget what he told me - he said depression never goes away. He said the thought that its just a phase is the most detrimental thing. He was in his 40s as well and he said he has only learned how to cope with it better.
