“Fresh.” was his first comment, “Hope you didn’t have a hot date tonight, Bets.” the chipper tone was inapropriate for the scene, but murder. There was a problem to solve, a killer to catch, a perfectly contained problem for him to direct all his energies. In work he could take refuge, be effective. Maybe this was all he needed to break out of what was feeling like the onset of a mid-life crisis.
“That places time of death at around 7pm.” he brought out the notebook and started to jot. First impressions of the scene, systematic observations of the scene, the body. “Can we move him?” he asked looking to the technician for a cue.
It wasn’t long before he saw another familiar figure approach. “I was wondering when you would show up.” Scott said still writing. Looking up he pointed obviously at the body, a hint of a smile with raised eyebrows. “Murder.” he said helpfully.

Betsy rolled her eyes at her colleague. “ Honestly, Scott. When was the last time I actually HAD a hot date ? NEVER. That’s the answer. ” She noted his tone and shook her head. In some ways, she could understand why Scott was almost GLEEFUL at the murder. It was rare for anything like this to ever happen in New Metropolis. The crime was usually kept to a low, and by that, it was usually some robberies or a span of petty thefts.
She continued to observe the body, and once she got the okay from the technician to move the body, she was already making mental notes to do a full on autopsy once she got back to the lab. It was definitely clear that this was a case in the making.
She was making notes of all the injuries sustained on the body. It was probable that this murder could’ve been an accident. But she doubted it. The raven-haired female glanced up once more as she heard the detective addressing someone else and gave the figure a nod of acknowledgement. “ Scotty, you are WAY too happy to be investigating a murder scene. ”

Barry rolls his eyes, “I know I’m late,” he mutters. “No need to remind me every single time, even if it does happen every single time.” The blond sighs, unloading his bags and quickly unpacking them. With gloves on, he begins to move through his kit and gather the necessary supplies. Crossing under the yellow-tape, the CSI begins to take in the scene.
“Finally a fresh case,” the blond mutters as he begins to move around the body. Barry moves quickly, knowing the first thing that they need is an ID. With sleeves already rolled up he moves in, pulling the wallet from the cadaver’s back pocket. Tagging and bagging the evidence, he tosses it to the other male, “There’s your ID, detective,” he states.
The blond looks over to the other CSI already working the case, “You take the body? And I’ll take the scene?” he asks. He only does so because he’s been given a bit of a reputation to be controlling when working a scene, the phrase ‘Doesn’t work well with others’ has been used relatively frequently. But, there’s no denying he doesn’t get the job done. With his history of closing cold cases Barry is a bit surprised he was put on such a fresh one. Then again, this was high-profile, and the powers that be probably wanted it solved, and fast.
“I can put the time of death almost precisely at 7:03 pm,” Barry says softly, looking up. “You can definitely tell this guy works somewhere high up, and I’m not just talking about the splatter or the impact markings. Check out his watch, that’s not something you see every day. And so long as that battery is still operational, you’ve got your TOD down to the second there, detective.”

❛ ───── NOT A PROBLEM. but i have a question… ❜ the blonde trailed off before continuing, ❛ ───── have you found a P A T T E R N in their robberies ?? or do they always hit randomly ?? usually if it’s a group, they’re looking for something specific or they’re preparing to hit the bigger picture. say, a minister’s home. even if they do hit random, there’s something in the details that reveal who they are. just an assumption. ❜
Barry nods, granting way for the question to be asked. He usually talked too much, but knew how to keep it shut when other’s needed a turn to speak. “It’s been random thus far as far as we can tell. Coffee was the first they hit, that was a big one, and then it was chocolate, sugar, and a decorative storehouse soon after. It seems they’re going after big ticket items to sell on the black market but we can’t track where it’s going. Most of the things can be repackaged and bought and sold without us knowing, so we’re at a loss for tracking it on the back-end. I don’t expect them to hit any of those supplies again any time soon considering the quantities attained. I’m thinking a clothing depot may be next, it seems the most likely but it could be anything honestly. Tobacco is another possibility, but we’re watching everything we can at this point.” Barry doesn’t address the further points, if only because he doesn’t enjoy when people try to tell him to do his job; or rather the jobs of the detectives that work the cases he’s assigned to.
loislanewillbeyourhero:
Lois’ eyebrows quirk utterly surprised by his revelation “They give you guys seminars now? That’s actually quite cute.” Flashing a comforting smile Lois decides to take this down a different route “Look I’m not that scary, the chief’s office however is. I’d rather make a simple deal with you, that if I agree to remain quiet about what I saw you have to promise that as soon as you’re able to divulge details that I am the first person you tell.”
Barry opens his mouth to reply, holding a finger up to indicate he had a point, but he knew better. Closing his mouth he swallows any retort that might have come out and just grins. instead, showing off his bright smile. “How about this, off the record, I’ll give you something and then you can find however many sources you deem necessary to corroborate it? Just drop what you saw, don’t pursue that, and I’ll give you something good.”
rrgcrs:
THE PATRIOT thought about the detective’s words and basically had no choice but to help. that was his duty in life, he felt like. helping people in need. ❛ ───── YEAH, yeah, alright. i’ll help you catch these guys. i need an A C C U R A T E description first though. ❜
Barry nods, sliding over a file folder with all the details he might need, or rather, the details of the case that the department had ordered him to provide. It wasn’t much, it never was, but truthfully in this case it was all they had. “Like I said, four person team, always masked, but we have their heights and rough descriptions of their build. Think you can immortalize them so we can plaster their image all over the city? Usually manages to get us a few tips so we can crack the case.” The blond pauses, “But I appreciate it, so thank you.”

Lois narrows her eyes at the man, reluctantly allowing the photo to be taken away from her “I’m not just a citizen, I’m Lois Lane from the Daily Planet. My articles have been known to assist the police on occasion so don’t be so quick to brush me off.”
Barry winces when she speaks, yeah, he was going to be in so much trouble if she reported on anything that she saw there today. Pinching the bridge of his nose, the blond looks down, ensuring after a brief pause that he’s left nothing behind. “Yeah, you’re press, that’s even worse. I can’t be talking to the press, I’ve been given strict directions and quite a few seminars about what to say when confronted by a member of the press. You’ll have to contact the Chief’s Office if you want an answer about anything you saw here today, I’m sorry.”
