Book Review: My Life On the Road by Gloria Steinem
My book club and I read this book two months ago. It is recommended reading for feminists who are new to feminism, into grassroots movements, and are interested in the life of a woman on the road.
I’ve always been interested in Gloria Steinem, but never really understood her, and I am not saying that I have figured out all the secrets and intricacies of Gloria, but this book is very involved. You span the time of Gloria’s entire life. From her childhood with her vagabond father, to living with her mother, to overcoming a fear of speaking in public...
Making connections is a huge part of this book. Gloria and her belief in equal rights for women connected so many people. Being a feminist transcends boundaries and connects you to an entire world that some people may never even know exists.
I dare you not to cry when you read about her friendship with Wilma Mankiller. I double-dog dare you.
This book is good for those interested in: a brief history of feminism, Gloria Steinem, grassroots campaigning, and overcoming odds.
