So it's common knowledge that the modern version of gay & lesbian history is so far removed from any truth or reality, it's just a rewriting to glorify straight people, but I think the most insidious part is how that's being applied in today's brave new world.

According to the rewrite of gay & lesbian history the whole world was actually on the gay & lesbian side, everyone from the kids at school to the government was on the gay & lesbian side. It was just a minority of faceless meanies who were actually homophobic, but they were so powerful everyone was forced to just accept homophobia. The concept that EVERYONE was literally a bona fide homophobe is not even a consideration. The concept of being a homosexual, a marginalised minority, facing mainstream public condemnation, from everyone, church, govt, school, your job flipping burgers, every fucking one? The concept that not only was homophobia universally acceptable but cool, trendy, groovy baby? No not realistic.

So then they apply this to the modern day. They see themselves with all their mainstream support, their government support, being catered to by corporations, being cool and trendy and profitable, and none of that precludes them from oppression. In their view they've become the new gays & lesbians. They're hip and counterculture and on the front page of magazines and they're so terribly oppressed, all at the same time. Gays & lesbians with no mainstream support, with the govt at our throats, who are old-fashioned, off-brand and irrelevant, we're the oppressors.

That's the narrative, but irl gays & lesbians have always been uncool to the mainstream & our oppressors have always been The It Thing. This historical revisionism is what allows the trans, queer, heterosexual to claim oppressed status, despite their wide acceptance. I think that's the most insidious part of the revisionism.
