For once, she was actually hoping that something would come along that would need his utmost attention. The silence that was coming from her end was beginning to irritate her, and she wasn’t sure just how long it’d be before she eventually gave up and confessed her problems with some… rather unexpected words from her. Please, just keep asking questions that didn’t need detailed answers from her. Just please don’t expect her to say anything.
Please.
Hearing his question got yet another nod out of her, along with a small sound of approval. While she couldn’t actually speak, it seemed like noises themselves were in the clear. So she could use that to her advantage.
At least she seems to be alright, aside from the fact that she isn't saying anything — while still concerned, surely they can get behind it together. "Does green tea sound good to you?" asked, as Hershel started to prepare two cups.
He'd finish making them first before heading back, giving her some time, as he then gently put the teacups on the table, and sat down. A thoughtful hum, deciding on how to approach this. Seeing how nodding works just fine, perhaps he'll have to ask yes or no questions. "... Do you know the reason why you're unable to communicate verbally?"
Come to think of it; maybe writing could work. He'll have to get some pen and paper in a moment. "Are you physically able to talk? Or is it involuntarily?" odd questions out of context, fair.
applessmile:
Oh no. Seeing his expression told her that maybe she should’ve attempted some form of communication… but would she rather not talk to him or deal with the embarrassment that would come if she did? She’d much rather stay silent, thank you!
Absolutely, positively do not talk to him, Flora. Don’t even say hello.
Her hands now lowered themselves slightly, nodding her head while trying to give him a smile that yes, she was alright. …Still wasn’t going to say anything, though. It made her look quite suspicious, considering she had kind of been yelling earlier… which hopefully he hadn’t heard. And she wasn’t going to try asking him to find out.
Thank goodness, at least he was getting through to her. He was already worried that something inner might be happening. Still, it didn't change the fact that she was silent, which was concerning. Clearly, there was some issue — he could promise he heard some shoutings, even if he couldn't say what about.
"Flora, I'm ... not all too sure how to help you, if — would, would you like a cup of tea, perchance?" settle down a little, that might help. right.
applessmile:
Oh god. She can’t speak around the Professor, it wouldn’t be ladylike of her to say this kind of stuff around him of all people! Hands quickly went to cover her mouth, one of them moving away to wave at him. She was going to try her hardest to not let him hear even a word out of her, as that word could be the very thing that puts her under headlights… if she wasn’t already. Oh no, he hadn’t heard her already, had he!?
Oh dear. That's one way to worry the Professor— Seeing her back away distressed like this, gave plenty of red flags, and unfortunately for Flora, caused the opposite effect.
"...Are you alright? If there's something, you can talk to me."
— Of course, he'd inquire; it's about Flora, after all. Hershel can't just ignore it when she's got an issue. That’s not what a gentleman does.
In my next life I will be reborn as #fatheroflayton.

{ ♠ }” Well how about the terms hysterical, comical, humorous, or priceless you boring piece of white bread.”
{ ♠ }” And I’m impressed you tried to come up with a convoluted answer for a simple puzzle. The answer was yes by the way. But sure I want to hear a puzzle.”
"Your Puzzle only requested if it was funny or not, it didn't include synonyms though I'll add that it's not hysterical, comical or humorous either. Priceless— Well, in a literal sense, the scene is rare enough of it's the price not to be calculated, making it priceless, but not in an amusing sense."
"Regardless, a lovely Puzzle of mine I've had the honour of solving quite recently; If a particular "boring piece of bread" gets provoked by an abomination, how long will it take for the "boring piece of bread" to lose their nerves entirely and show the other's place?"
"...Worth 15 Picarats."

{ ♠ }” Unable to be solved?”
{ ♠ }” Or are you too much of a FUCKING COWARD”
......listen here you piece of shit—
“If the man in question slaughtered the other with a piece of rock, despite the critical situation taking place — both on the moon, presumably with obstacles returning back to earth — that’d be a dreadful mistake, at least since survival is far more difficult when you’re alone.”
“Nevertheless, there are many ways to define that behaviour, but ‘funny’ is not on the list. Neither is amusing or hilarious.”
“I hope this answer proves sufficient. Would you like to hear a puzzle in return?”
sonoflayton:
he’s gonna just…….cry
comfort??? his? ? son? ??— with a hug??
its alright its fine— dont cry—
shxtteredlegacy:
{ ♠ }” I got a puzzle for you, you cylinder son of a bitch.”
{ ♠ }” If there were two guys on the moon and one of them killed the other with a rock would that be funny or what?
“......”
“Perhaps there are some puzzles unable to be solved, after all.”
professorunaging:
“Oh, of course I wouldn’t mind. A true gentleman always does his very best to hold himself together, even if he is referring to another version of himself. What would you like me to do?”
"I'm afraid we've got another lovely Son around, yet I'm uncertain on how to communicate with them— their multiverse seems far off from what I'm used to."
"As you possess abilities I lack, could you give a try? They go by 'Alfondee Burgerham' I believe."
professorunaging:
“How is everyone doing this fine morning?” Playing dumb, are we?
“Evening—”
“Would you mind helping a fellow Layton with keeping their crumbling sanity around these parts?”
sonoflayton:
Enemy spotted.
Hello?? ?? He’s not going to fight his SON— or,, presumably son????
he did say he loves all alfendi’s.... including whatever that one is meant to be. right? ? he’s not going to ask any questions, right—

❝ Oh ! Dad, I have something for you . ❞
Once he’s sure he has his father’s attention, Fendi moves from the couch to the floor. One arm is extended under the couch, and when it’s retracted, there’s a present in his hand. The gift has certainly seen better days; the box is dented, especially on the corners, and the wrapping paper is somewhat torn and caked in dust.
❝ We bought this for your birthday before you disappeared . To be honest, we don’t remember what’s inside, but we think you should have it . ❞
"—Oh?"
Curiosity piqued, Hershel took the box cautiously, inspecting it. Clearly, it's not in its best state, no doubt about it— but after all the years he's unfortunately been missing, it'd have been surprising if the box still seemed good as new.
"I assume you don't mind me opening it, then..?"
He took a seat; To be fair, without even knowing what's inside, Hershel already knew he'd be holding the gift close with him. The fact his son still had it was touching, even if it reminded him how he has failed to be there for them for years. Gently pushing some of the dust aside, he opened it— what'd it be?
❝ There's no need to rush, we've got plenty of time, now. I'm sorry I couldn't be there for you for so long— It's good to see you again. ❞
