is another well-known World Heritage Site.The Völklinger Hütte in the Saarland and the many steel plants and coal mines in the Ruhrgebiet belong to an era when heavy industry was dominating these parts of Germany. But this era is about to come to an end, and the magnificent buildings are only reminders of this past.
