New Talent In Asia
For years now, the Asian fashion market has been expanding rapidly. The luxury side of the industry has seen a huge boom in the Asian clientele, with a significant proportion of sales coming from the Japanese market alone. The business side of fashion has been benefitting from the new influx of Asian clients, and now the creative side is receiving a wave of talented young Asian designers.
Up until recently, the only significant Asian designers have been Yohji Yamamoto, Rei Kawakubo of Comme Des Garcons and Issey Miyake – all famous for pushing boundaries and experimenting with the beauty of a fabric.
After Seoul fashion week, a multitude of talented designers have begun to move up the fashion ladder – Juun J, Johnny Hates Jazz (designed by Ji Hyung Choi) and Kaal E. Suktae, designed by Dior trainee Lee Suk Tae. These designers may not be household names yet, thanks to the advertising market being dominated by those old luxury houses such as Chanel and Louis Vuitton, but deep down, a new generation of designers are stepping up to take the reins and design interesting garments.
It’s already beginning to steal the thunder from the West, and about time too.
Ghesquière: A NEW LEADER FOR VUITTON
When the news broke back in October that Marc Jacobs would not be returning to Louis Vuitton as Creative Director next season, the question on everybody’s lips was who will take the helm at this infamous fashion house?
Our questions have been answered, finally. Nicholas Ghesquière, who has been in control of Balenciaga for 15 years (and transformed it into one of the most advance luxury brands in the world), bringing innovative fabrics and advance sculptural tailoring to his complex vision.
He stated that ‘Louis Vuitton has always incarnated for me the symbol of ultimate luxury, innovation and exploration… We share common values and a vision… Together we will build the future of the brand while preserving its precious heritage’.
Ghesquière succeeds popular designer Marc Jacobs, who left Vuitton after a 16-year stint to focus on his name-sake label. Jacobs has helped transform the label from luxury leather goods house into a fashion-forward super-brand, and in more recent years has decreased use of obvious brand signifiers (that infamous LV logo), and refocused on product and communication strategies.
Ghesquière is sure to help re-vitalise Vuitton’s fashion offering and is one of the latest string of senior-level changes at the house, however, he will have to adapt his approach to Vuitton’s scale, as it dwarfs Balenciaga in terms of sales.
From looking at Ghesquière’s work a Balenciaga, he will bring something fresh and unseen before at Louis Vuitton, and give the house that breath of fresh air it needs.

hey!hey! i love your blog! im first year of uni as well but not fashion journalism! im planning to do a short course on it soon though. could you tell me more about your course please? :')
Heya! My course is really quite broad! I have three modules on the go this year: fashion history and popular culture, introduction to journalism and digital media and imaging.Fashion history is really interesting. We've mainly been covering the eighties, punk, post-modernism and now we're working our way back through 20th century fashion. It's really helped build around what I already know about fashion and I've discovered loads of links with art, history, music, dance and culture among other things. In terms of assessment, we did a presentation on two different designers last week, as well as a 350 word designer feature due for December and a terminology test in January. Our introduction to journalism module teaches us basics of news writing, media and writing skills. We have a couple of presentations to do , as well as writing 3 200 word pieces in the style of 3 different publications. We'll also be starting on interviewing after Christmas. We've only just started our digital media and imaging module. We'll be learning how to use indesign, making short films and photography and styling techniques.Obviously I'm only 2 months into my first year so I can't give you a full overview but I hope this helped!

October Beauty Favourites
This month I've been testing out a couple of new products, as well as sticking it out with my old faithful's. Here a couple of products I've been using religiously this month (I apologise for the lack of pictures, I'm spending the weekend at home with my family and the majority of my products are back at uni): L'oreal Volume Million Excess Mascara - this makes me eyelashes look fake. Long, luscious and very very black, this mascara makes my lashes look like something out of a magazine. I'm naturally blessed with quite long eye lashes but with this mascara they look 100x better. Benefit Sugarbomb Blush - goodness me. This is my favourite blusher of all time. The mix of the 4 colours gives a wash of pink with a slight shimmer (don't be put off by 'shimmer', it gives a lovely effect) and emulates a healthy glow. Revlon Lip Butter in Red Velvet - one of the newest colours in the collection, red velvet is the perfect sultry red. The formula isn't too glossy or too matte, and has excellent staying power. I've lost count of the number of times I've been asked what lip product I'm wearing. I could go on forever, but seeing as I'm typing this up on my iPhone I'll stop. I hope you've all had a fantastic October and have discovered some great beauty products.

Meow! Everybody wants a cat bag
I’m not a particular fan of cats as pets, I am much more of a dog girl, but my god, I want to be Choupette Lagerfeld. For the more oblivious amongst you, Choupette is the extraordinarily classy pet of Chanel Creative Director, Karl Lagerfeld. And who wouldn't want to be a cat with it's own line of accessories? Karl’s love for his little white cat has led him in a different direction to usual Chanel path – there is now a capsule collection of feline-inspired items, all dedicated to Choupette.
All the designs are in Lagerfeld’s classic monochrome colour scheme, with cutesy feline features, such as little ears and whiskers, with prices ranging from 45 euros to 340 euros for bags, iPad and iPhone covers and wool scarves. The collection will be available from November 12th in Karl Lagerfeld stores across the globe.
Clearly, Karl loves his cat just as much as I love my dogs.
