#how to deal with bad news
l00pin:
Remus gave her a pleading look. “Ivy, you really don’t have to cause a scene,” he said knowing it was falling onto deaf ears. He scoffed at her comment. “I’ll have you know I turn down James’ stupid ideas constantly,” he said with a smug smirk. “How do you think we haven’t gotten expelled yet?” He hadn’t gotten as much one on one time with Ivy as he wanted to after hearing of his close friends’ recent relationship. They had been acquaintances of course, but even after this quick interaction, he could understand the attraction between the two.
“alright, alright,” she said, laying her hands on the table as she folded under remus’ pleas. less dramatic, no scene causing....sure, it’d be boring, but she could do it. if she had to. “i expect it’s because you’re charmers, the lot of you, but just because you turn them down doesn’t mean they don’t still happen... he’s still got sirius and petey for yes men, after all,” she reminded him, but this time her laughter was more gentle, and as she flipped her hair over her shoulder she had a softer smile for him. “so you’re proposing we just.... do the assignment?”
dlrkcresswell:
“step where?!” he called out, but it was too late, because in the moment everything looked the same to him – dirk could feel the slight grit of glitter under the sole of his boots, and in a panic, he ended up causing further damage by kicking more of it around as he tried to rectify his original misstep. his entire face contorted into a display of shocked pain that was apologetic and voicelessly screaming ‘i can’t believe i just did that’ because even he couldn’t fathom how he hadn’t seen the anything coming. he was actually *looking* for her, and as he rubbernecked the usual ivy-hangout spots, he wasn’t paying attention at all to where he was stepping - not in the ways that counted, at least. he immediately began laughing as reflex.
“i’m a spaz, ives – i can make it up for you, i’m sorry.” he felt terrible, and for some reason looking at her so upset was making him want to laugh harder - he knew it was a terrible impulse, but he couldn’t fight it. he tried to control himself, breathlessly panting things like, “blame it all on me, it’s my fault!” and “i’m not laughing at you, shit!” rotzeanxa told him an ounce of staghorn was a *microdose*, but he suddenly felt out of control of his euphoria and *maybe* he wouldn’t be recommending it to her after all … but everything looked like it was glittering and all he could think about was how badly he needed to share this with ivy because she would *love* it. he took a few deep breaths. “it’s still really beautiful. i’ll help you make it whole again.”
there’s a moment there, between the horror and the laughter, where everything is perfect. there’s glitter in the air, and everything is sparkly, and even though everyone will be mad later, when there’s glitter in places glitter shouldn’t be (according to boring people, anyways) it couldn’t be better. there’d always be more glitter, but it never moved the same way twice, and even with dirk’s laughter, she’s still struck by how pretty it was, and she caved, letting the despair take a back seat to the enjoyment for a little while longer as she joined in with her own confused laughter.
“you’re fine, you’re fine,” and she’s insistent, waving her hand at the badger to dismiss his worries. “they can yell all they want, i don’t care, how can i care? it’s so perfect.” it was only the best disaster ever, and the despair was quickly shrinking as she remembered herself - the warnings were reflexes, now, but the love of glitter was eternal. “i’m not going to blame you.... obviously, if i’m going to blame anyone, it’d be one of the snakes,” she added as her grin grew. “but it is pretty, isn’t it?” giving in to a sigh, she watched the last of the glitter fall before turning her eyes back to dirk.
“or we could just... leave it like it is and pretend we don’t know what happened? where’ve you been, anyways? did you run here?”
l00pin:
Remus blinked and stared blankly at her unsure if she was joking. “Ivy, I think you’ve been spending too much time with James” he said in an almost warning tone. “I don’t think they allow student’s in the hospital wing for being dramatic,” he said with a laugh taking back his essay from her. “Besides, I’m a prefect. I wouldn’t be a very good one if I helped you out with this one,” He reminded, leaning forward and resting his elbows on the table. “Could I be a hero by making us both write it?” he added not fully convinced himself.
she laughed at that, watching as remus took his paper back. “you’re one to talk, aren’t you?” she teased, giving the boy a grin. “he’d never come up with something that clever, he’d... pick a bad excuse and let it grow into something so wild you’d say yes to anything to shut him up.” shrugging, she leaned forward, leveling a faux-serious look at the boy. “unfortunately, though, my sources say no.... and my source is a magic 8 ball, so...” leaning back into her chair once more,t he grin was back, and so was the mischief in her eyes. “i could totally get away with this.... and if worse comes to worst, you know, just... paint it like a nervous breakdown. problem solved, student admitted to infirmary for dramatics.”

l00pin:
Remus sat up a little straighter when he heard Ivy’s voice, immediately putting on a small smile. “Oh, hey Ivy,” he said while uncrossing his arms. He closed the book he wasn’t really reading. “It feels like more than a stall, more like… crash and burned,” he said with a joking tone though there was far more truth to it. He let out a sigh, Ivy not starting her work wasn’t necessarily comforting, but at least another fairly good student wasn’t doing their best. He turned his essay back towards him reading the last couple of lines before shaking his head and pushed it away again. “I might not even turn this one in” he admitted and looked back up at the girl in front of him, motioning towards the empty chair across from him. “But enough about my misery, what brought you to the library tonight?”
she could laugh at that, finding it described her own situation pretty well, too. a boring essay was no excuse for not doing it - they’d had plenty of those, but this one just seemed impossible. “yeah, right into a wall of bullshit block, right?” she offered, shaking the laugh away with a shrug as she slid into the open seat he gestured to. “it’s more than i’ve got. and it’s a pretty solid start, to boot,” she pointed out, “if you reworded it some, you might find where your train of thought derailed and manage to get it finished.”
dragging a foot beneath her to make herself a little taller, she leaned onto the tabletop, chin on her hand. “honestly?” she asked, laughing again and flipping her hair out of her face, “i was one hundred percent planning to have a library accident.. lots of tears, crocodile and real, double whammy, all the pity....it sounds awful, i know, but hear me out. you could rescue me before i get too hurt, you know? just a day or two laid up in the hospital wing to recover from my emotional turmoil, and rest up, and not do this essay.... you could be a hero, rem. what do you think? we still have time."
deermrpctter:
as though his arm had a mind of its own, it wrapped around her whenever she leaned into him. his other hand though went to grip at his chest, eyebrows furrowing as she continued to list off all the ways she would punish him for straying. and really, the idea of not having his hair playing with anymore? actually torture. “i don’t know how i would survive with all of that.” letting out what he hoped was a defeated sigh, james shook his head. “i guess i can’t let those rumors get back to you then. because no more kisses? i don’t think i could make it throughout the day without those. and i definitely wouldn’t be winning any quidditch matches this year. those are my good luck charms, you know.”
that was much more like it, and ivy’s grin grew more pleased as she felt his arm curl around her. “me either, honestly. i’m pretty fond of that shirt.” glad to see he was getting the picture, she nodded, amused and flattered by the dramatics - because of course, having to take kisses off the table meant she was being punished too. it was nice to hear he’d hate that, better than nice, and she stretched up enough to reach his cheek, leaving one there for him because he deserved it. “i did know that, actually,” she told him, “but, you know.. you could just.. not give anyone a reason to perpetuate a rumour like that. and that way, you wouldn’t have to put your kisses at risk. i wouldn’t hate hearing that you’re.. not seeing anyone else.”
Remus was sitting at a table in the library mindlessly flipping through pages of a book he should have already read. He could only take in a few sentences before his mind would drift off elsewhere. He had his half written essay beside him that he knew he wasn’t going to add to for the rest of the night. Usually being the nagging friend in the group he wasn’t about to let the guys know he too hadn’t started until last minute.
He felt residual exhaustion after his recent furry problem, and he felt as though he was never going to have his energy back. With a huff he shut the book and crossed his arms thinking of ways to start the project over. Lost in debating if he should just give up now, he didn’t realize the student walking by had stopped at his table.
“you alright, rem?” she asked, tilting her head as she regarded the boy. it wasn’t often you saw remus left to his own devices - and a little peace- in the library, and she didn’t want to intrude, but his frustration was palpable, and ivy, well.. ivy just couldn’t help herself sometimes. stepping back up to the table, her fingers toyed with his essay, twisting it until she could read it, nosy thing that she was.
“did you stall out?” she asked, eyes falling back on her housemate. he just looked so bothered... ivy hated it. no essay should leave anyone looking that stressed, especially not remus. “i haven’t finished mine either, if it makes you feel any better. it’s just so...boring, i can’t.”

It was entirely too easy to find the amusement in his classmates’ misery. Granted, James had every confidence that the bloke would end up moving on to some unsuspecting underclassman and take solace in her arms. After all, rumor was that’s what he’d been doing over the summer anyway. But, for now, it was amusing for him, and no doubt the next fall out he’d deal with would be another way to keep James occupied. “Oh, so in trouble,” he responded, nodding seriously as he poked her in the side. “You’d probably have to come up with some way to make sure I behaved so much no rumors like that would ever come back around. Might even have to end up punishing me just to prove a point.”
“oh, i see.... it falls to me to entice your loyalty, is that it?” she asks, the smirk gone and replaced by the grin once more. she could threaten him easily, but there’s no need to remind him she could put him in the hospital wing with pomfrey for a week if she really wanted to (as if he could forget, ha!), and she knew that wasn’t his point anyway. twisting in her spot, she leaned into him, looking up at him as she batted her lashes - knowing full well he was a sucker for it. “you know, the kisses, well, those go first.. because, obviously, boys who kiss other girls don’t get my kisses, too. and playing with your hair? mm-mm, forget it. not for boys who can’t behave themselves. snuggles? definitely out... and then, you know, if you’re really in trouble.. i might even have to give you back your practice kit, and getting me to take it back would involve so much effort.... and my scarves... i’d be cold without them, and i might get ill, and then you’d feel extra guilty on top of all of that. really, it’d be easier if you just behaved yourself.”
Hey, guess what? What? I know something you don’t know.

“ am i a bad person ? ” andromeda blurted out , her gaze flickering towards the other individual . her teeth bit down on her bottom lip , releasing the flesh a second after . “ sorry , it’s just something that has been on my mind lately . ”
“absolutely not!! andromeda - what?” ivy shook her head, eyes closed as she tried to erase this absurdity from her mind. “how could you think that about yourself? drom, no, you’re not. so far from it. if you are a bad person then i am the devil himself, okay? and that’s just not possible.”
“no no no no no no no don’t step there!” she urged, voice rising higher in octave as she carried on, practically squeaking by the end. “glitter!” the excess glitter pile she’d been saving was destroyed, and she was devastated, naturally, the crestfallen look clear on her face as her glitter floated around the great hall, kicked into oblivion by dirty feet. "my posters. my glitter. i... why? everyone’s gonna yell at me and it wasn’t even my fault this time.”
deermrpctter:
it was hypnotizing. as much as james wanted to, he just couldn’t seem to look away from the horrible break up that was going down right in front of them. and, if he were being honest, he didn’t really want to. it was far too entertaining. reaching out and taking a few of ivy’s snacks for himself, james smirked as he shook his head. “you think the poor lad would know better. girls talk. bound to get back to her that he was a bit of a prick.”
Ivy only grinned as James gave himself over to the absolute drama before them. Maybe it was rude to watch other people’s lives play out like her own personal telenovela, but Ivy ever maintained that anyone who wanted privacy should seek it, and not rely on others to provide. But as he spoke, she turned the grin on him, the smile morphing into a smirk of her own. “And you’d know a thing or two about being sold out as a bit of a prick, wouldn’t you?” she teased, leaning over to nudge him with her elbow. “Good thing I know better, huh, or you might be in trouble.”

Amos couldn’t help but watch with a pained expression as he listened to Ivy’s running commentary. He felt sorry for both of them, never being one to want to be around conflict. “You’re an awful person.” he muttered, but took a couple of the offered beans anyway. “But I can’t condone cheating so maybe he deserves to lose her but still- it should’ve been done somewhere more private. Guarantee that will be in the school rag tomorrow morning.”
“I’m not awful,” she protested, whipping her head around to stare at Amos. “It’s not my fault they’re having it out in public. Sure, I could have gone, but I was here first. I’m just making the best of it.” Shrugging as if that settled everything, Ivy leaned back on one hand, letting herself get comfortable. “And that’s exactly why I don’t feel bad, but am instead glad to be here as a witness so that when it comes to light, there is now a witness who can set the story straight. He did this to himself, and she deserves better. And we got to watch her tell him so. You’re part of a moment of personal growth, don’t look at it as intruding, look at it as....supporting strong women.”
