Two songs by Graham Nash (about the same girl)
Whenever we’re talking about Graham Nash I get enthusiastic, I’m always singing his praises and you can tell the words are leaving my mouth covered in some kind of love juice. He’s from Manchester, I think that’s a part of it… He dated Joni Mitchell, he went to California, he met Neil Young and in leaving The Hollies he took a chance, followed his passion and ultimately found his place in the world - right in between David Crosby and Stephen Stills.
Here are two songs that I always listen to together. One is written during love and the other after love. To me they are equally positive and there’s no blues here. Blues is for the time in between these two songs. This is bliss and then a measured reflection of past bliss. In my mind they are written about the same girl (Joni Mitchell) whether or not that is true I don’t care. It’s a nice story.
Song 1. Our House - Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (Deja Vu, 1970)
Song 2. Better Days - Graham Nash (Songs for Beginners, 1971)
