Elias Rahbani (1938 - 2021)
The legendary Fairuz is wearing a black, gold-embellished ensemble designed by the famous Lebanese designer Elie Saab in her latest iconic appearance at her residence in Rabieh at the end of August 2020.
She accessorized the outfit with a signature beaded, black scarf tied around her hair and a visor, as a precaution against the coronavirus.
The French President Emmanuel Macron visited the Lebanese singing legend Fairuz in her home in the suburb of Rabieh on 31/08/2020.
Macron awarded Fairuz the Legion of Honour (Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur), France's highest order of merit for military and civil merits, while Fairuz presented the French President with a painting.
Macron described his meeting with Fairuz, who as a figure has almost become synonymous with the country's pain and glory, as "very beautiful, very strong".
"I told her everything that she represented to me, of a Lebanon that we love and that many are expectant of, a nostalgia that many have" he said.
*The French embassy had invited Fairuz to meet Macron at Al-Sanawbar Palace to honor her, but she apologized for not leaving her home and invited him to visit her instead at the time.

Madame Fairuz attending the Solemn Appeal on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions in 1999. She was formally invited as a representative of the Arab world, Middle East and North Africa, along with other international personalities, in order to declare once again the refusal to see the horrors of the Second World War repeated. Instead of giving a talk, she insisted on singing only a single song, Al Ard Lakom, over a poem by Gibran.
Throughout her long and still ongoing career, Fairuz has never been only considered a diva but an icon of culture, peace and cohesion at her highness.
One of those small classy gestures that characterizes Fairuz is her typical bow, through which she thanks audience. Not a single word she spells during her performances across the world. Not a single exaggerated gesture: the unique way she interacts with her public is this wordless and universal obeisance.
Heavy eyelids that bear the burden of all of Lebanon. Jamelik!
Fairuz sings lithurgical hymns on 29 April 2005 at Good Friday mass at Saint Elias church in Mhaidseh village, east of Beirut.
