Love's Latest Victims | Niko & Colette
"Because you’re alone in the middle of the woods with me. And if you don’t trust me, it wouldn’t be the brightest idea to bring us somewhere like this. So trust me or rethink your life choices, Fayte," he pointed out, grinning, though for a second smile he angled his head in a way to make it look malicious. But he knew that Colette knew he wouldn’t hurt her, not after the other night. And, hopefully, he could trust Colette. He’d already put his faith in her, faster than he had anyone else he’d met. So hopefully it was mutual. But she all but proved he could trust her when she told him that her power would be used to help him protect the kids. For a moment, he stopped walking, to glance over at her. "Thank you," he spoke softly, though the words were absolutely genuine, squeezing her hand softly, "Thank you, Colette." Having a goddess help him made him feel so much better, even with the curse in place to prevent the Beldam from hurting the children. It meant more than anything anyone could give him.
"Silly human," he chuckled to himself, "Haven’t the gods learned that cats don’t belong to anyone, but people belong to cats? Though if you ask nicely, I can make an exception for a goddess, even if you are in human form at the moment." Niko was more than okay with belonging to the people who belonged to him, knowing that love of any kind was a give and take. "Interesting looks might not be very drastic, considering you want us to jump off a cliff," he pointed out, every part of him alert and tense as he followed Colette towards the end of the cliff, "Couldn’t you have found better real estate?" The cat didn’t want to jump off a cliff into the ocean, it was the last thing he’d planned on doing in his life. But he wasn’t a coward, and if Colette could do it, and wanted him to, then he would. He’d survive… hopefully…
Colette remained silent, smiling a little but not too much. After all, a grin would be the first sign of the world ending. She was fairly sure he shouldn't be trusting her as much as he was. He grew too attached to her, far too quickly. But, as stories prove it, gods were selfish. She could lie through her teeth all she wanted, but she knew the truth. Somewhat unfortunately, so did her sisters. The thought erased when Niko thanked her. She laced their fingers and gave a slight nod. "You're welcome." In translation, they were children. He could be an asshole as much as he pleased, but his sole purpose was to protect children. She use to make fun of people who tried to be heroic.
"Haven't cats learned anything?" she pressed, "gods can make felines go zap! And yet still as cocky as...well...us." With a chuckle, she turned and walked backwards, 'watching' her movements until she was a few steps away from the ledge. She wasn't being all that nice to him, but while she was a fan of sappy moments, she wanted a thrill. Having Niko believe it was a giant drop with amusing and the moment he realized it wasn't more than a seven foot plunge into safe water, he'd either laugh or kill her. "I could have. But every stone in this place has been turned over and searched. It's cool, trust me." She reached out for his hand again. "Just look, will you?"
