Since Barcelona last lost a game...
Messi: Back but not 100%
Now I'm often on Twitter and in the past week or so I've had to witness an incredible amount of trash talking of Messi from multiple Barça "fans". Not sure what exactly is more shocking. The horrible things said about not only the greatest player in our history but the greatest player in the WORLD'S history or the fact that people are so greedy. Since his debut, Leo has helped us reach incredible levels that we would've never dreamed about. The 4x Champions League winner has been one of the biggest reasons Barcelona has become the most successful club in the millennium. He's the chosen one and everyone in Barcelona knows that. Or at least they did.... During his injury prone 2013-2014 season, heavy criticism surrounded Leo and many followers even demanded his departure. Of course those critics were also the ones screaming his goals vs Bayern in CL the following year. With Barça winning the treble, it seemed as if Messi was finally appreciated for who he was. That was until in late Sept he picked up an injury forcing him to miss 2 months. Being the warrior he is, he was determined to make his return for el Clasico. And he did. A 4-0 win in el Bernabeu seemed the ideal return. But when the parties and celebrations seemed to simmer down, the excitement for his return turned bitter. Fans unhappy with his level of play again demand he step down as the lead man in Barça so that Neymar could take his place as king of Barcelona. I've never been one to just have an opinion on a player based on stats. His stats aren't exactly "Messi level" however that doesn't tell the entire story. He's brought back his magical runs and jaw dropping passes were so accustomed. Unfortunately, we can tell he's just one step away from greatness. The man was out for 2 months and everyone expects him to come back in full swing. Doesn't work like that. He needs time to slowly get back into that rhythm from last season where he played almost every game. Suddenly, were doubting his talent as if he hadn't demonstrated he's the greatest of all time for years now. The man who's humiliated opponents such as Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Manchester United numerous times in the biggest games of the season. The man is walking excellence. With Neymar's continuous growth and Suarez non stop scoring, Barcelona were able to stay at the top of La Liga, win their UCL group and do it all in an electrifying manner. Neymar, Suarez and Iniesta almost singlehandedly defeated Madrid in their own stadium. But now...imagine when we incorporate Messi in there. A devastating form of attack will leave their opponents overwhelmed. The three best players in the world (yes I said 3) make a trio like we've never seen before. Give Messi a couple of games until he's back to his normal self. Remember this article. They'll be unstoppable.
Corrupt Awards in Spain
Should I even be surprised that La Liga Awards gave Sergio Ramos the best defender award and James Rodriguez the best midfielder award? When they went trophy less....... Sergio Ramos has made a career of fooling fans and coaches into believing his a world class defender. His idiotic and mistimed tackles often times cause his team points. His consistent red cards, especially in clasicos, are not something you would want from your starting defender. He's portrait as a hard tackling warrior who can also score crucial goals when needed. Granted, his goal in the Champions League final to save Madrid in added time was enough to give even a Barcelona fan chills. He's excellent at both defending and scoring on set pieces. But that doesn't take away the fact that he's still a jeopardy in the back. His emotions are often worn on his sleeve which often get him ejected. He's had 19 red cards during his entire career with the last 2014-2015 being his first full season without receiving a red card. The other madridista recipient of a La Liga award for this year, James Rodriguez, is an overhyped midfielder who's made out to be a world class midfielder to make his transfer amount seem reasonable. Since his debut in La Liga in 2014, he's had to deal with continuous injuries. Rodriguez has been able to make just 34 appearances in 2 seasons with "los Blancos". On paper, his statistics look promising. 16 goals and 4 assists in 34 is above average. But then we remember his enormous transfer fee... Florentino Perez blew £80 mil on the previously unknown Colombian who blew up during the World Cup. How could Perez, a man who appears to have all the money in the world, want one of his "galacticos" to be seen as a waste of money. Bale had already been regarded as overrated after his record breaking fee. Truth of the matter is, James has yet to make an impact in big games for Real Madrid. To most fans this wouldn't make any sense. 2 trophy less and overrated players receiving an award from La Liga. That is until we remember that the league president, Javier Tebas, is a lifelong Real Madrid fan who has publicly admitted his admiration for the club. He's also gone on record to state that the previous Clasico was difficult for him to watch as his team was demolished by Barcelona in front of their own crowd. A league in which the president is an open supporter of a team. A president who makes sure that his rival team's players receive no recognition. Welcome to La Liga ladies and gentlemen...
2 days until the biggest game of the season. Visca Barça!
Sergi Roberto: From the bench to the spotlight
The Masia graduate had been struggling to find continuous minutes during the last few seasons in a very stacked midfield. Sergi Roberto had to witness from the bench how some of his fellow Masia-graduates were minutes in big matches for both the older team or for other teams. The lack of minutes made him understandably frustrated. But the cold reality was that he wasn’t talented enough to earn playing time. During his years with the older team, he’s had to fight for minutes in a midfield which contained the likes of Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez, Cesc Fabregas, Ivan Rakitic, Thiago, Busquets, Mascherano, Rafinha and Jonathan Dos Santos. Different managers would try him in different positions to see exactly where they could fit him in but it was no use. Most fans felt as is he was not talented and skillful enough to wear that blaugrana jersey and had been demanding his departure. Many of his friends recommended him to take up some of the offers from other teams who promised him more minutes. But year after year, he refused. He had been with the club since he was a child and his life dream had been to play with the Catalan side. Despite considering leaving the club in the summer of 2015, he decided to stay. And what a brilliant decision that was.
It’s as if he was part of a scientific experiment in the summer that rejuvenated his whole career. As if he went to wizard and asked for a potion that would turn him into an elite midfielder. Or, the most logical one, began to work and work and work every day during the player’s holidays and came back to training sharper than ever. Luis Enrique began to notice his improvement and began playing him more and more during the preseason friendlies. With Dani Alves being recalled up again for the Brazilian National Team and Douglas picking up an injury, the right back position seemed scarce. It was in the match against Manchester United in Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California where Enrique tried his luck with Sergi at right back.
Being a midfielder, he had little to no experience as an outside back. It seemed quite desperate from Lucho to try him in such a position. However, it was a brilliant gamble. As the games progressed, his confidence grew more and more. Soon enough, he began recognizing the position and started to feel at home on the right flank. But when the pre season was over, it seemed as if Enrique’s experiment had come to its end. That was until Dani Alves picked up an injury early on in the season and was out for several weeks. Enrique look to his bench to find a replacement for the Brazilian but found himself in trouble. He had loaned out Montoya to Inter, Douglas was still injured, Adriano was battling injuries and Aleix Vidal couldn’t play until January. Who would he play? Who else? Sergi Roberto.
Roberto played his heart out for the next couple of weeks against the likes of Atletico Madrid, Malaga and AS Roma among others. The youngster caught the eyes of many culés all across the world with his brilliant performances. Although he was not as offensive as Dani, he was a secure defender who loved to take runs up and down the flank when needed. Unfortunately, it seemed as if his moment of fame had reached its end. It was midnight and Sergi Roberto’s Cinderella story was over and he had to return back to the bench to make room for the recovered Dani Alves.
His hard work and sparkling performances were not ignored by his manager. Luis Enrique continued to find a spot for him in the lineup where it was in the midfield or in his new home at RB. An injured Andres Iniesta meant more minutes for Roberto who didn’t blow his chances. He continued to shine with his terrific runs, extraordinary hussle on defense and magisterial assists including a heel pass to Luis Suarez against Getafe.
With Ivan Rakitic making a possible return against Real Madrid, Sergi Roberto’s pretense in El Clasico isn’t guaranteed. However, there is a high chance that Luis Enrique will reward him for his terrific season buy adding him to the starting 11 for the biggest match of the season.
Whether or not he is a starter for el Clasico, there is no doubt that Sergi Roberto will continue to contribute to his teams success all through the season. With the absence of Rafinha due to a season long injury, he is now responsible to fill in that role as “super substitute” when needed. Funny to think that a player who’s future at his boyhood team was uncertain less than 5 months ago is now a key member of a team competing for yet another treble.
Congrats Sergi Roberto and keep hustling for more !
Havent been on as much lately apologies. They’ll be coming up soon!
The great novelty of the English League this year to the level been so disappointing of the Chelsea of Jose Mourinho. In 16th place and 4 points clear off relegation. With the roster full of stars that have, how it is possible that they are fighting for? staying in the League?
The problem starts up top. Starting forward Diego Costa, can’t manage to find the goal and has only scored 2 goals in the first 10 matches. Coincidentally, he has more yellow cards (3) than goals (2). His replacement, Radamel Falcao, is also struggling to find his form. The Colombian has 1 goal in 9 meetings with the “blues”.
The lack of goal also falls into the arms of midfielders who are seen with a lack of creativity and energy. Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard who together have scored 1 goal and 3 assists in 12 meetings. Two of the best midfielders in the world last year while this year have left much to be desired.
Finally, the Chelsea defense looks very inconsistent. The rejuvenated John Terry of last year is not to be seen and this year’s version of Terry is nothing compared to the wall of old times. For the right flank, Ivanovic does not seem able to get to meet his defensive work especially in the counter attacks. In many sometimes each defender seems to be playing its own match and the lack of communication between the defenders is evident.
On top of everything, its technical director José Mourinho has a dressing room that is to collapse in seconds and does not appear to have an answer. With the dismissal of the team doctor, Eva Cornero at the beginning of the season, many players gave him the back. Several players admit that they do not enjoy playing for the Portuguese and even prefer to “lose than to win with Mourinho”. Mourinho has a reputation for having a huge ego that does not admit their mistakes and ask for forgiveness.
If the situation at Stamford Brdige does not improve in the next few days, Jose Mourinho is could find without equipment. However, as part his contract, if he is fired, the club is would be forced to pay the rest of his contract, which ends up being around 37 million euros. The decision is in the hands of the directors of the club. With or without Mourinho, the club has to start winning matches if they want to stay in the “Premier League”

Wow I miss this
Barcelona 1 Sevilla 2
What an unlucky game. Lady Luck wasn’t on our side at all. 4 times we hit the post. FOUR. Including that Neymar free kick. Sandros shot towards the end would’ve made it 2-2 with 10 to go and momentum with us. Honestly, we got lucky on the penalty because it was definitely not. He kept his arm next to his body and I have my doubts if he was even inside the box. Doesn’t matter now
What makes it worse is that we played great. Great attacking plays solid defending (except that fucking French ginger) we just couldn’t capitalize…. No Leo no Andres and we played decent. No doubt in my mind that if Messi was there we would’ve won. But it is what it is. Neymar and Suarez played great today just terribly unlucky.
Give credit when credit is due though. Sevilla played great. Although I don’t agree with their defensive tactics, they played them to perfection. And their gk, Sergio Rico was sensational. Unhumanly at times. Even guessed right on the PK.
It’s just one of those games. Sevilla is tough to play always and even harder in their stadium. No Guaje for the winner like in 2012. No Messi with the winner like in 2014. But we did what we could. Unlucky. Now to brush it off, regain focus and train for the next game. It’s a loooooong season and teams are bound to drop points. It’s not over yet. It’s just beginning

Game recap of the Barcelona vs Roma game on Wednesday!Enjoy!!
Barcelona vs Atletico post game analysis
After a victory in arguably the most difficult stadium in La Liga, Barcelona find themselves in a familiar place: First place. To make it even more like home, their arch rivals Madrid is behind them.
Messi’s second half goal secured the blaugrana team a 2-1 victory against Simeone’s Atletico Madrid in the Vicente Calderon.
Even with the absences of Pique, Dani Alves, Claudio Bravo and even Messi, we were able to scrape the 3 points out. Things looked even worse when Vermaelen came out in the first half with an injury and Mathieu came in
I must admit I was extremely worried when Mathieu came in. Last season he was a solid backup when needed but this season not so much. Most of Sevillas goals in that 5-4 victory could be traced back to the Frenchmen. Lately he’s been out of position too much and insecure with his tackles. But all that seemed to go away. On Saturday he was strong and fast and reliable in the back.
He wasn’t the only one with an excellent performance in the back. Centermid-made Right back Seri Roberto played excellent. He’s finally adapting to his position and is learning when and where to make his forward runs. Many times he was the last defender who prevented a shot on goal. Although his crosses aren’t better than Dani’s, they’re better than Montoya’s and we have to be thankful for that. He’s slowly learning when to incorporate with the attack and when to just get out of Messi’s way.
Words can’t even describe Messi and his importance. Saturday just made it even clearer. Change the whole outcome. Solved the puzzle. In such a short span of time. Even without the goal, his presence was felt. His key passes were magic to watch.. As usual. The way he understands the game with Suarez is incredible too.
Scrappy win but we’ll take those every day. 2-1 win over one of the toughest teams in the League and we’re still 9 out of 9 points. Next we have Champions League this week against Roma. We’ll have a podcast after that game as well. Visca Barça!

Oh captain my captain

I was there. THAT Clasico. Booed Madrid and screamed Suarez and his goal. What a night...
