“ is that all for today?”
“ yeah, that’s it.” the young woman gives a polite smile, her hands reaching for her wallet as she grabbed a few bills to pay for her canned coffee and bag of doritos. setting the money on the counter, she hears a voice, almost hushed but clearly calling out to her. turning around, julia scans her surroundings, doing her best to seem subtle. her eyes stop at the person behind her, clearing her throat. “you weren’t calling me, right?” julia asks, her voice raspier when quiet.
beth was curious about this new world, the idea that women were allowed to work and earn their own money was fascinating. oh how her sisters would love that, money that wouldn’t automatically belong to their husband. she’d take up a job as a piano tutor, it was after all one of the things she loved most in the world. at the sound of a voice, she looked up. “Oh, no - I didn’t say anything.”
great. she was hearing people’s prayers again, their voices swirling through her mind. “ right...yeah. sorry.” she gave her a small smile. it wasn’t difficult for julia to tell that the young girl was not from the current time - perks of being an immortal goddess. “ are you new here ?” she asks. julia knew the answer, but she wanted to see if the pattern she had noticed was true.
