Relaunching the Brand!
Hi there!
We've taken a step back, reevaluated our vision, and rededicated our focus on providing styling services and consulting. So our brand is going to primarily focus on the styling and branding portion of the fashion industry.
What does that mean for this blog?
It means we're going to continue to bring relevant content about trends and style tips, but also industry news, editorials, new clothing lines, where to shop, and how to spend your money wisely
Here's to 2015!
Dear Summer...
Hello summer! We've been waiting patiently for your arrival. It's finally time to shed the jackets and scarves for something a little more freeing. July 4th marked the official start of the summer for me and what better way to celebrate it than with what we here at F.C.Y.C. believe are some things you should definitely look to add to your summer wardrobe. With a little bit of layering and finesse, you can make these transitional pieces to take into the cooler months.
I've always loved the maxi dress, particularly on the days where you want a feminine look without the effort of being high maintenance.
Topshop Slinky Triangle Maxi Dress - $92
Young, Fabulous, and Broke 'Fiona' Maxi Dress - $185
Take advantage of the longer hemlines this season and try a few midi lengths. We appreciate the sexiness of the form fitting midi and the flirty look of the full skirts.
Tribal Animal Print Bodycon Midi Dress - $64
ASOS Abstract Print Midi Dress - $41.43
ASOS Midi Dress with Split Thigh - $124.28
Make a statement this summer by buying your basics in a loud print. Try making your accent print piece your new black by pairing it with neutrals.

Bellatrix Floral Print Shirt - $78
Don't forget to go for a basic look on top while you let your shoes do the talking.
Jeffrey Campbell Kelley Shoe - $114.95
Jeffrey Campbell Dressen - $199.95
Love the look of the famous Isabel Marant sneaker wedges but don't have the budget? Try these similar styles without breaking the bank.

ASOS Deny Wedge High Top Sneakers with Suede Detail - $74.57
Stay out of the heat!

Saturday Fashion Tip for Women: Next Level
Your wardrobe should be more than putting on the clothes in your closet. There is so much more to what you wear than just a blouse or a pair of pants. Take your look and your style to the next level by adding a little something extra.
Maybe your "something extra" is experimenting with your hair or makeup. Be adventurous with your jewelry and accessories. If you normally wear flats around town, try wearing bright pumps on a date. If you're used to being extravagant with your heels, why not wearing flat boots when you're having a girls night. Try doing "too much" for a little while -- you actually might find out that going out of your comfort zone is just what you need.
Here at F.C.Y.C., we're fans of accessories and jewelry. Adding a necklace or a belt will take your outfit from ordinary to being a head turner. Make something you have on a conversation piece. Remember -- "just enough" is never just enough. Be more.

Saturday Fashion Tip for Women: Protect Your Neck
Adding a scarf to your fall and winter wardrobe is like a no-brainer. Take advantage of vibrant colors and prints to add a little something extra to your outfit. Add a touch more of originality by tying the scarf in different ways.
Substitute your necklace for a printed scarf to wear around during the day. When it gets chilly at night, you can wrap your scarf around your shoulders to keep yourself warm.
Warehouse Baroque Animal Scarf - $38.41
Opt for a floral print on your scarf for added femininity. Pairing it with a solid color will allow the print to pop.
ASOS Black Based Floral Print Scarf - $26.19
A basic scarf will never go out of style. Keep a simple one in your closet to wear for dressy occasions. You'll need to have a few scarves you can switch in and out of your wardrobe for whatever you have planned for your day.
H&M Scarf - $12.95
Try an infinity scarf for a little variation in your wardrobe.
J. Crew Infinity Scarf - $45
Take a look at scarves.net for tips and tricks for fun and interesting ways to tie your scarf to add more variation to your fall outerwear.

Friday Fashion Tip For Men: It's the Little Things
They say that the devil is in the details. While we don't know who "they" are, we're sure that they're right. It's the small things about an outfit that make it unique and shows your individual style. This week's segment won't highlight specific things we suggest you wear. Instead we want you to think about the small things you can add to make yourself stand out.
Whether it be a nice watch, a few bracelets, monogramed cuffs, or a cloth belt with a design, add something different and eye catching to transform your everyday fashion. Throw on an old ring, wear some nice frames, and figure out what it is you like about yourself that you want to express with accessories. For once, listen to "them".

Saturday Fashion Tip for Women: It's in the bag
Your bag is the last piece of the puzzle that polishes off your outfit. At F.C.Y.C., we're fans of letting your bag speak for you. Add these interesting bags to your closet to have something to go with everything.
H&M Bag - $34.95
Keep your daytime looks in the fall simple with a staple brown bag. This bag carries everything while remaining chic. Plus, it's affordable at only $34.95.
Michael Kors Gia Satchel - $895
For the ladies with a larger budget, add this Michael Kors croc embossed bag to your wardrobe. This bag takes you stylishly from day to night and adds a nice texture to accentuate your outfit. F.C.Y.C. tip: if you're carrying around a statement bag like this one, keep the rest of your outfit simple. No need to overdo it.
ASOS Slot Through Portfolio Clutch - $34.92
Use a bright colored clutch when you're going out for a night on the town to add a statement to your outfit. For extra pop, wear a bright colored bag when you're wearing an outfit that is using neutral tones or a monochromatic color scheme to break up the colors.
ASOS Faux Croc Mini Bag - $26.19
Try an across body bag this season to your casual outfit. The ultimate in casual-chic, you'll have to pack light because these bags are usually small. Carry the essentials with you.

Friday Fashion Tip for Men: F.ight the C.old, keep Y.our C.ool
As fall and winter approaches, it's time to consider jacket options. Here at F.C.Y.C., we're big fans of the classics so we'll choose to highlight a few favorites: leather, pea coats, and trench coats. Cooler weather is a perfect time to highlight your personal style, since you have to layer and bring multiple items together.
Leather Jackets
Ralph Lauren Leather Bomber Jacket - $1,195
Not your dad's leather jacket, the bomber jackets of today are much better cut and much more stylish. Black or a rich brown are your best bets, since they're easy to match and look even better when they've been worn in a bit.
Suggestions: Avoid getting something that looks weathered, half the fun is making your own scuffs and marks.
Pea coats
J. Crew Authentic Bayswater Pea Coat - $255
Military inspired and timeless, you can't go wrong with a wool pea coat for the colder weather. They come in a variety of colors and styles, mostly neutral colors and double breasted jackets.
Suggestions: When deciding on a length, go for a jacket that falls right at the middle of your palms. It'll cover a suit jacket but work look too large and bulky. Also, when trying them on in the store, bring a suit jacket. This way you can judge the fit of the coat with a suit on under it.
Trench Coats
Burberry Short Cotton Gabardine Trench Coat - $1,695
Another military inspired jacket, the trench coat is a vastly unexploited member of a wardrobe. It's extremely versatile when cut correctly, and can be dressed up or dressed down. A very timeless and classic style for men, and the colors can be contrasted well with bolder patterns and fall colors.
Suggestions: DO NOT just let your belt hang. Either tie it in front, or with jackets with nicer buckles, fasten it up. If you want to wear the jacket open, it's okay to leave the belt at home or tie it in the back.

Saturday Fashion Tip for Women: Maintain the Manicure
One of the simplest ways that a woman can maintain an overall finished and polished appearance is to have (and maintain) a manicure.
butter LONDON - Toff $14
Your nail polish is a reflection of your personality. Women might take a few chances with the colors they choose for their wardrobe, but tend to be either conservative or completely out of the box when it comes to the color they add to their nails.
Essie - Power Clutch $8
Deborah Lippmann - Billionaire $16
F.C.Y.C. believes that the young woman on the go should stay conservative with her nail polish while in a corporate setting. Out of the box colors tend to show your youth and inexperience, and when trying to gain more responsibility and proving yourself in the work place, you might want to maintain neutral or basic colors until you get to the level in the company you'd like to be in. Dress for the job you want, not the job you have. While we personally love louder and brighter colors, save those for vacations and special occasions.
Essie - Case Study $8
Nars - Gallon $17
F.C.Y.C. recommends a shellac or gel manicure for ladies. Expect to pay an extra $10-20 more on the shellac or gel than you would for a regular manicure per visit. This manicure is to be done by a professional, will take about 45 minutes and includes the usage of a UV lamp. The extra cost pays for itself because the manicure will last without a chip or a crack for over two weeks when your nails grow out.

Friday Fashion Tip for Men: Dress Up Your Suits
There's not much that look better on a man than a suit. With that said, a well-cut suit in and of itself makes a bold and clear statement: a man who knows how to dress. While a suit speaks loudly, don't stop there. There are several ways to accentuate your tailored suit with subtle accessories.
Tie Bars
Tie bars are classic, 1920's era fashion and they replaced the now outdated tie tack. Tie bars are simple and sophisticated, while very functional. They come in various colors of metal and lengths, usually a half or full bar. Slide yours between the third and fourth buttons of your shirt and remember that the purpose of a tie bar is simply to keep your tie in place. Don't get it too close to the knot just so it can be seen.
Pocket Squares
The F.C.Y.C. stance on pockets squares is this: If you have a suit or sport coat on, it needs to have a pocket square in it. Pocket squares come in a multitude of colors and fabrics, as well as sizes. The general rules are:
Your pocket square should match the colors in your tie, but not the pattern. If you have a patterned tie, wear a solid square and vice versa.
ALWAYS have a silk white pocket square. It matches every tie, every suit, every time.
Don't confuse a handkerchief and a pocket square. A pocket square is worn in the front of your jacket. A handkerchief is a smaller, usually cotton square of fabric tucked into the inside of the coat for hygiene needs, such as when a lady sneezes.

Saturday Fashion Tip for Women: FALLing for Color
No matter what trend you’re going for, (modern twists on geometric classics, opulent simplicity, menswear, or even in your hard at work business attire) there’s no denying that vibrant colors (especially jewel tones) are a staple this season.
How to Wear It:
DO NOT
Wear more than three colors at a time
Even though you can try to get away with wearing four different colors (neutrals don’t count), any more than that and the outfit will simply become unflattering. Giving the eye too much to look at will take away from what you’re going for
DO
Make the color the focal point and mute everything else
There’s no need for over the top accessories or wearing other “loud” pieces since the color will already speak for itself (although you may want to experiment with metallics) .
Color Blocking
Shoes, bags, clothes, color blocking can be found everywhere this fall.
DO NOT
Over kill
For the sake of everyone else, do not ever attempt to put on more than one color blocked piece at a time. You can choose to focus on your clothes, shoes, or bag—but never wear them together.
DO
Experiment with mixing and matching different colors
Now is not the time to be timid. Look to expressionist painters such as José Manuel Merello and Jean-Michel Basquiat for color combination inspiration
Monochromatic
As autumn approaches it’s becoming more acceptable to be a little “matchy-matchy”.
DO NOT
Blend shades
Wear contrasting shades (dark and light, bright and muted) to avoid a lifeless look.
DO
Experiment with different textures and fits
Try mixing various textures (silk, chambray, pleats, jersey, and sequins) and different fits (loose fitting and form fitting) to give some added spice.
Make it Pop!
From date nights to work, don’t forget to add a bold splash of color.
DO NOT
Wear more than one brightly colored piece
Focusing on one vibrant item will give you a more polished look.
DO
Match with neutrals and basics
By adding neutral tones and basic colors this will really the color in your outfit stand out.

Friday Fashion Tip for Men: When Shower Fresh Isn't Enough
Despite the tendency of humans to underestimate the role of smell in our everyday lives, smell is the most important of the five senses. So I must beg the question, “Is fresh out the shower enough?” A simple answer, “No.” Soap is a much-needed component in any lifestyle, but when it comes to cologne, we need to search for our best fit. Understanding a few key points will help any man pick the best scent that will make him more attractive, distinguishable, and memorable.
1. Season, time of day and location are important factors to consider when deciding which cologne you’d like to wear.
The fall and winter seasons are perfect times to get bold and versatile. Embrace the idea of becoming memorable. Every gentleman needs Armani Black Code in his repertoire. It begins with clean top notes of lemon and bergamot followed by mid notes of olive flower and pepper. The scent closes on sensual notes of tonka bean and guaiacum wood. Try adding Dolce and Gabbana’s The One or Thierry Mugler’s Angel Men to your fall and winter collections.
2. Always be aware of the time of day.
Daytime fragrances should be completely different from evening scents. Daytime aromas are supposed to be light and subtle while evening fragrances should be bold, and spicy and almost daring. Picking the right cologne will give a man audacity. It is just as important as selecting the right pair of shoes or pocket square. These little nuances separate boys from men.
3. You can’t wear everything everywhere.
Just as most men would not wear a tuxedo to a job interview, you can’t wear any cologne to any venue. Learn what fits where.
4. Remember to keep your application light.
It doesn’t matter how good the cologne is, overdoing will kill your intentions. Be memorable for the right reasons. I recommend spraying the cologne into the air and then walking through it (close your eyes). People should be able to catch the fragrance when they are standing next to you, not 10 feet from you. Spraying your cologne on your pulse points are a good idea: neck by ears, base of neck/chest, etc. Or you can try to lightly put a small amount on your shirt by the collar on both sides or on your chest. Don't put any on your cheeks or around your lips.
By all means, use cologne. Soap won’t set you apart from the boys.

Saturday Fashion Tip for Women: The Year of the Dress
Even though the end of summer is rapidly approaching, there are still plenty of opportunities to wear my favorite go-to ensemble of this year: the dress.
While all of us know that the dress is meant to be worn in any season, and can be dressed up or dressed down, the best part about a dress lies in the detailing. Take it to the next level and highlight your best asset - I personally love to wear pieces with back detailing.
Asos.com has a few looks that can highlight what your best feature might be.

Fashion Friday Tip for Men: Pleats vs Flat-front
Pleated or flat-fronted slacks: the age old question of which is better looking for men. As with all fashion decisions, pleats are up to your personal preferences. Here at FCYC, we prefer the slimming look of the flat-front pants. Pleats tend to make your waist look wider, while flat-fronts follow the natural line of the leg.
Flat-front slacks
Pleated slacks
Again, it's all up to personal preferences. You can find a great fitting pair of either style. Just remember, during the tailoring that pleated pants always should be cuffed and flat-front pants should not.
