I need to share something with you. After a hectic but ecstatic preparation, in August I began formally introducing my Cyclops pets to the international community. In September a recaster announced their plans to recast the dolls.
I was livid and speechless. This person is from my country. They could not claim to be ignorant of the fears and hopes and risks someone in my position faces. I can only take comfort in the belief that the people like them are far outnumbered by others who understand the impact piracy has on independent artists and whose actions demonstrate a tremendous empathy and altruism for which I will always be grateful.
The Cyclops pets that this person is trying to recast had a domestic release, which finished shipping in March earlier this year. After that, I decided to pause sales and refine the prototypes before re-releasing on a larger scale. For a while, these dolls were somewhat difficult to find. It seems this person was able to buy one of the domestic-release cats on the second hand market. I do not see indications that they have the rest of the set. It would also be impossible for them to have access to the international-release versions, as none has been shipped yet.
For anyone who plan to bring one of my dolls home, please be careful about the provenance of your purchase. During the international halloween event (ending in Nov 1, 2016), there are only two authorized sources from which to get my Cyclops pets. The first is through my facebook and website; the second is through my translator, Eugenio Ruspoli, via their tumblr and facebook. I will also post detailed photos of the packaging and associated graphics before I ship.
To supporters of artists and intellectual property: Thank you. Your choices and support determine whether people like me can continue doing what we love. I hope to be able to bring you more dolls in the future!
