an open letter to the members of wither
i’m not a member myself, but as a former admin to a semi-big and rather popular board, and someone that’s been writing for longer than i’d care to admit, something needs to be said and i can’t just sit by and idly watch as something like this happens.
something’s happened that i’m not sure many of you are aware of. (i say this because i hope to god that if you WERE aware of it, you all wouldn’t sit around and do nothing about it.) the creator of wither, jay, has informed me that your lovely admins, cas and chels, have locked her out of the admin panels and have essentially taken the site away from her.
if you know anything about jay’s current situation with her computer, and how it — for lack of a better phrase — took a shit, you’d know she had no other option but to leave until she figured the situation out. without a computer, how was she supposed to do her duties as an admin? she put up an absence saying that she was leaving until she figured out what would be happening with her situation regarding her computer, because, well, what else was there to do?
as her co-admins, the logical response to this would be for cas and chels to man the fort and keep things orderly and under control (as they seem to think they can do, anyway, current situation considered!) until she knew for sure what she had to do. instead, without her knowledge, they changed her admin passwords and changed the email accounts connected to the board, literally hijacking wither from its rightful owner.
you might be thinking, “what’s the big deal?” no. to someone that’s spent literally YEARS of her life dedicated to making skins, graphics, coming up with ideas for characters, site-wide plots, and making this side into what it is now, it’s a HUGE fucking deal. part of her was taken from her today, and if you as members are going to sit and let it happen, you’re just as bad as the people that took it from her.
to chels and cas: you two should be ashamed of yourselves. she trusted you enough to co-run something that she spent endless hours on, and you stole that from her. maybe you see this as an okay thing to do because it’s the internet, but it’s much more than that.
jay would NEVER do this to anybody else. she and i created grimm together years ago, and it was a rather large site. much more than two people could handle, and yet most of the time she was doing it by HERSELF. it was during a time in my life where i was back and forth between real life and the internet quite a lot, and i’d take weeks of absences at a time. not once did she ever consider taking it away from me, and the fact that someone else is doing it to her now is just absolutely absurd and disgusting
