Rhys made Oliver upset, and he walked away.
Rhys made Oliver upset, and he left.
Rhys made Oliver upset, and he come back.
He regretted ever giving him a key to his flat when Rhys came home one day to find things missing. Little things; things that would normally go unnoticed.
A shirt, here, a pair of sunglasses, there. None of the missing objects were Rhys', though, so he wasn't surprised to find them missing.
That didn't mean he liked it any better.
He hadn't noticed how used to Oliver's things he'd gotten until they were gone, and he found himself looking for them. They had no meaning to him other than the fact that they'd been left there, and that meant there would be reasons for Oliver to come back.
To come and go while Rhys wasn't home, though, that was unexpected.
The key on the kitchen counter left a feeling that was – or what he thought to be – similar to a black hole forming in his stomach. A black hole that he quickly pushed aside, not ready in any meaning of the word to feel anything more than nothing. Rhys was always good at feeling nothing.
That's why Oliver got so upset with him, That's why he left. Left for good.
It wasn't until a year later that Rhys learned that Oliver took something that hadn't belonged to him.
He couldn't find it in him to be upset when he realized.
Oliver looked far better in that shirt than Rhys ever did, anyway.
