it’s really interesting to me that taylor calls herself a fire multiple times on folklore, sometimes in the context of love (”i’m a fire and i’ll keep your brittle heart warm”) and sometimes in the context of anger or vengeance (”now i breathe flames each time i talk”, “if i’m on fire, you’ll be made of ashes too”). we can connect that back to reputation when taylor embraces being lit up by everyone’s opinions of her (”they’re burning all the witches…so light me up”) but i think we can also take that even further back to speak now when we see taylor get her fire from someone who tried to use it to scald her (”you burned them out, but i took your matches before fire could catch me so don’t look now, i’m shining like fireworks”). fire is something beautiful and necessary, but also destructive, and i’m obsessed with the concept of a young woman stealing her abuser’s matches and using them to get revenge and protect both herself and her new partner.

I think that a lot of you forget that taylor is a human being, too. like she has bad days. she has days where she can’t get out of bed, days where she doesn’t feel like talking or dealing with anyone, days where she just needs a break from the rest of the world. it is senseless and unrealistic to expect her to speak on every single issue. is it senseless and unrealistic to place a time table on her and expect her to speak up right when you want her to. she has a life of her own. yes, she should be using her privilege and platform to promote good causes and help spread awareness on important social/political issues, but she is not a politician and she should definitely not be where you look for your news. stop placing all these expectations on her and perhaps instead reflect on how you can make a difference in your current situation
