I love the idea of Otter Waterboy but not only did the team not notice, Robert didn’t notice even when they start dating. He thinks Herm just really likes holding his hand, bringing him rocks, and fixing his hair
otters usually groom each other by rubbing, combining and nibbling each other with their paws and teeth, so i'd imagine herm always trying to clean robert up with his hands, since he can't really nibble him.
he brought robert his one, lifelong, favorite rock... saying that if robert needs it, he can use it as well. otters don't usually trusts their favorite rocks with anyone, so this is really an honor. which robert has no idea about, but sure.
he always asks robert to hold hands, since he's scared that he'll drift away. again, robert has no idea what herm is talking about, but okay.
sometimes otters show affection by nibbling on their mates paws and tails, so herm sometimes does it with robert's fingers, since he doesn't have paws or a tail.
there's also... nests, that herm keeps making in their bed. which otters either do daily for sleep, or before having giving birth. for herm it's more of a sleeping thing. robert thinks he's just getting comfortable.
the day he does notice that herm is an otter, is when he looks at herm's feet. they're webbed. robert asks what is this, and herm says it's... his feet. robert asks why are they webbed.
herm stays silent for a bit, before saying that he's an otter. they have webbed feet. robert asks what does he mean he's an otter.
herm ruffles his hair a little bit, revealing a pair of small otter ears. he turns around, and lets his tail out of his shorts, wagging it a little.
robert is just... disappointed in himself that he didn't notice his boyfriend being an otter before.
