@fearlesswarpup
/I saw that ânot my catâ post, and I suspect War Pups might be like thatâŚ
âWoke up with this little one hogging the blanket. I donât have a Pup.â
âFound Pup playing in the driverâs seat, he said he was going to be a driver like me. I think Iâm now a big brother.â
âDozed off while getting blood, found these two on my lap. I guess Iâve got Pups now.â
âVery helpful Pup bought me my toolbox. Iâve never seen him before.â
//I know it would never fit in the time line, butâŚ
MAX AND TINY TEETER TOTTERING TODDLER PUP!SPROG.
((TOO SMOL))
Tiny pup bringing him a squished lizard of questionable origin to eat.
Tiny pup chasing Dog and going splat cuz he can't balance for a lotta steps yet.
Tiny pup holding Max's hand and waddling off to show him to Mi'ma.
Tiny pup papping Max's scruffy cheeks and cracking up because What Is Face Hair.
Tiny pup definitely the lil monster Sprog Max remembers, no matter how impossible, and Max won't let the war boys have him.
//I know it would never fit in the time line, but... MAX AND TINY TEETER TOTTERING TODDLER PUP!SPROG.
1, Furiosa and a war pup
this was a cute request!

Pup finally seeing one of the Milk Mothers (Lovely >u>) up close for the first time, thoâŚ
//He would be so shy it'd be ridiculous, but you'd hafta pry him off the mamma's lap once he was there.
//Max ( terminalxcrazy ) having the sudden realization that "Mi'ma" is short for "Milk Mamma" because the pups just don't know any better and mean it in a fond almost awestruck way because the Milk Mothers are low key worshipped but rarely seen by war boys who never go to the top floors. ( capablequeen )
//Slit trying to get Pup dressed n painted for an unexciting round of chores and being like "quit makinm faces, ya look jus' like a feral." terminalxcrazy
He hadnât Witnessed them. Not a single one. Heâd fallen down, scrambled, hid and curled up tight when the spiked rigs started exploding all around. The big brothers came to help but sent hot metal raining over everyone.
Pup continued to stare, dull eyed and silent. Shivering. His fingers curled loose in the Foolâs shirt when he turned them away.
âIâm sorry, Iâm sorryâŚâ He pressed a gentle kiss to PupSprogâs forehead. âCâmon. Câmon, letâs go.â
The leg looked like it needed more attention. He could do that somewhere else. Shouldâve gone somewhere cleaner, but he headed for the car. Safe place. He needed that now. âYouâre okay. Youâre okay. ShhâŚâ
Pup didn't feel ok. Not ok, not safe, because they'd been safe with their big brothers and now they were dead. Just dead. Unnamed, unwitnessed, unable to go to Walhalla.
He rubbed his blood smeared face against the shoulder of Max's shirt. Inhaled. Abruptly burst from silence into loud tears.
Wash Day
âSome of us like wearing shirts.â More complicated than that, really. âGot some scars. People stare. Donât like it.â Mustâve been a foreign concept to someone like him. The older ones wore their scars with pride. Gave them to themselves.
Then again, giving them yourself was different then having them given to you.
Pup pulling at his hand drew him from his thoughts. The realization that he hadnât put the pants on brought Maxâs smile back, for a heartbeat. âPants first.â
Pup huffed. âM'not gonna LOSE âem,â as though that were Maxâs concern. He still stopped to stoop, sticking his feet in- taking them out, sticking them back in the correct legs- and tugged the oversized cargos up his hips.
âI know, but you canât. Miâma wonât be happy if she sees you without pants.â Capable, he knew now that was what Pup called her. Still hadnât found out what it meant. âThink Iâm not taking care of you.â
It was an offhanded comment. A comment that felt like stabbing himself in the chest.
"I can take care'a me!" Pup said, hanging off Max's arm for a moment and then pulling. "I can take care'a you too! Imma full life, Organic said so!"
A little wet paint still pooled at the pup's lower back, rinsed but not scrubbed like his upper half.
The brand was in place at the back of his neck, like any pup old enough to train with his young peers. The dark words placed at the dip of his spine, lightened by streaks of white, were much less common.
Same blood type as his old man.
Someone had started to wrap gauze around one of the pupâs legs before more urgent assistance was needed elsewhere. Pupâs lip was fat and bloody, legs and chest seeming to have the worst of his shallow cuts and burns, but he didnât react to being scooped into the Foolâs arms.
His eyes were fixed on the still line bodies by the far wall. Too far away to make out faces or features. Some too small to be war boys. None were covered; it wasnât their way; but there were âboys standing watch with laced fingers.
He wasnât sure who he was thanking. Whoever was listening, he guessed. Whoever had kept the kid his son the kid his son safe. Eventually, words came. First soft shushes. Then, âHey, hey.â Then, âIâve got you, Iâve got you, IâveâŚâ
It smelled like blood. As he moved, gently rocking PupSprogPup in his arms, he caught sight of what the boy was looking at. Felt sick all over again. âHeyâŚhey, donât look at thatâŚdonâtâŚâ

He couldnât talk.
Wanted to scream, wanted to ask someone if theyâd seen this one War Pup, just the one, but the words werenât coming. So he ran. Shaking, eyes darting around, trying to find him, trying toâŚ
Please, please, no, not again, notâŚ
He caught sight of SprPupSprogPupSprog on the other side of the room. Still moving. Alive.
He didnât remember running across the room. Just knew that suddenly he was there, scooping up the boy into his arms. Not saying anything. Shaking. Struggling to breathe.

âShh⌠Shh, Iâm here⌠Itâs okay, itâs overâŚâ
The pupâs face was buried in her shoulder, both hands wrapped in the light fabric of her top.
The little field trip into the sands hadnât gone quite as planned. Buzzards were testing the grip of her rule over the roads more and more these days, firing on trade and war parties alike, but this had been⌠Bad.
No one had expected an attack to slip in so close to the Citadel. Especially not aimed at a group of pups and their instructor.
Pup had only been scooped up by the Imperator by chance in the aftermath, sharp debris picked from his legs and arms and chest. He was bleeding, but faring much better than a number of his young peers.
There were bodies. Big, small, pale, buzzard. A damned massacre had broken out in the confusion. Ace was helping collect them all, shaking his head and waving for Furiosa to herd the survivors back to the rig. Back to the Citadel, back up top where the Boys could take stock of their losses.
Pup didnât peek from his hiding place against her shoulder. Not once.
terminalxcrazy, if ya didn't see this event.
//Holy shit. Max losing it over the attack on the pups, everyone assuming it's just an extreme reaction to a horrific event because nO ONE KNOWS ONE OF THEM WAS MAYBE HIS SPROG AND HE CAN'T FIND SPROG AND HE'S SURE SpROG SAID SOMETHING ABOUT A FIELD LESSON- And the pup is finally located in the infirmary all bandaged up and you couldn't pry that kid away from him with a crowbar and Furi has to have a talk because this is not normal behavior. Especially not Max Behavior. [ terminalxcrazy / jobassaschild ]
The War Pup Watch
Welcome to another edition of: Sad headcanons with Tane! So you know how sleepwalking is kind of relatively common in children? War pups sometimes sleepwalk, once in a while, nobody really pays them any attention. One time, a war pup walked right off one of the platforms of the citadel and ever since then a group of war boys put together a night watch to look over the war pups in case it happened again. A lot of them also have night terrors and night fevers, dying in the night is common. The watch are the first to know. Some of them began providing relief if they spot a war pup/boy in distress, bringing them water, sitting with themâŚand also, witnessing them if it comes to that. Every watch war boy hides this fact and is sure he is the only one doing it, until one came out and everyone kind of hung their heads. It then became a thing, and another part of the watch duties. The war pups feel more safe knowing there is always someone awake. Sometimes there are no war boys in the citadel (if there is war things going on) and the war pups work out a watch amongst themselves.
- War pups dragging their sleepwalking buddies by the belt of their pants back into their cuddle piles. - Watch war boys being sleepy during the day and screwing up their tasks, other war boys covering for them And another thing
In the scene with Nux where the war boys are getting transfusions, we can see there is a war pup standing by almost every war boy with an IV in their arm. My guess is they are like nurses, and help Organic out. They are there so that the war boys know they will be witnessed for sure if they pass out and donât wake up during that session. War pups donât even truly know the meaning of witness yet, but they do it anyway.
I am a shit human being and I will escort myself out nowâŚ
But no no no. If they donât truly understand âwitnessâ yet, but they still say it⌠you know how kids are. The Witness would become some kind of ghost. A guardian spirit, a creature who comes when youâre about to die. Maybe the thing that sits on your chest and drinks your breath out of you, taking you away. Their little chants are to summon the Witness, free their big brothers from the pain.
Iâm including this in my growing file of Citadel ghost stories and fairy tales.
Get down from there!
"What?" Pup called back down, hands cupped to his mouth as he crouched on the railing.
