Zidane is a refreshing protagonist in the psx final fantasies as he is a reliable leader, friendly and considerate of others, and never hesitates to do what’s right (even if that breaks all kinds of laws). Unlike the brooding pretty boys of the previous two games, people are drawn to Zidane because he welcomes them to get closer to him and knows what to say to encourage his friends in times of crisis and get them on their feet again. He has his own angst, but when struggling with it, it only reveals that he is still a 16 year old kid and just as lost as everyone else. But it’s his willingness to be there, even for total strangers, keep a brave face on, and take whatever action possible that sets him apart.
