Mother? |Hayden & Jeffery

The young boy gasped sharply and tensed up as he heard the woman speak to him. The child raised his head and gave it a shake,not believing what he was seeing he looked around carefully, still confused and a little scared by the fact that she just popped up. However, her tone wasn’t harsh or mean at all…in fact it was sweet and gentle. That kind of tone was almost foreign to him, and once he was actually receiving it he wasn’t exactly sure how to respond. His soft blue eyes looked up for a moment and he shook his head no as if trying to say nothing was wrong. No, he really didn’t want to upset anyone this time, and not speaking might be the best way to go about this. This wasn’t the first time the child had ever seen anyone here, in fact he had met a few other people, but he didn’t understand the true terror of this place…at least not yet. Jeffery bit his lip and glanced off to the side before scooting away from the mysterious woman, for the most part she didn’t seem so dangerous, but he could never be to careful. Sometimes his mock Mother was nice at first…if she wanted something that is. He covered his mouth with his hands and looked up at Hayden innocently and his body began to shake in fear. His imagination was starting to run wild of Constance, and how she could turn out to be just like her, he wanted to run away so badly, but he couldn’t manage to move.

—;➳}— As he raised his head, Hayden took a moment to take in the brunette’s face. A small, happy sigh crumbled against her lips as she realized he looked just like Ben, the same eyes, the same hair. Hair that Hayden reached out tenderly towards and brushed away from the boy’s face delicately, or at least tried to but he had scooted away from her, shaking in pure fear. Hayden looked confused for a moment, why on earth was he so scared? Perhaps it had been her sudden appearance on the steps before him. Or perhaps one of the other ghosts had been giving him a hard time - thoughts turned to Thaddeus for a moment. “Oh, no, I didn’t mean to scare you," she said softly, her voice a gentle purr. Don’t be so scared, cherub, momma’s here for you now. Slowly, Hayden pushed herself up into a standing position and looked tenderly down towards the young boy. Almost cautiously, she held her hand out for the boy. “I’m not going to hurt you, baby," she said quietly, fingers wriggling slightly towards him, motioning for him to take her hand.

It wasn't hard to notice the child's shaky breath as he did poorly on an attempt to hide his fear, but obviously not very well by what the woman responded with. The gentle purred words were enough to make the boy stop shaking and calm down a bit, and he took this moment to look the woman over fully. She seemed to be truthful about the not meaning to scare him part because if she did he knew she could have done so by now, she didn't have any reason to hurt him. Jeffery took a deep breath as she stood up very thankful that the pressure was over, a part of him just wanted her to go away. He didn't really trust older women thanks to Constance, then again the young boy didn't really trust anyone except his blonde twin. He looked at her hand and then back up at her, the one thing he did take note of was how she said baby. Why was she trying to be so nice to him? He swallowed and reached up to take her hand carefully, but froze just before he made contact with her. His small hand pulled away slightly as he curled his fingers against his palm, but after a second he uncurled his fingers and gently took her hand shaking a little bit at her cold touch. The Harmon still did not speak to her, instead he just looked up at her with a sheepish smile.

The young boy stared at the door to the basement a moment before pacing back and fourth in front of it. “J-just do it…", he mumbled to himself as he stopped in front of his fear and reached for the doorknob. He had decided he had to learn how to brave, he couldn’t hide in the shadows forever could he? He was going to finally stand up to Constance, but if the child couldn’t even manage to open a basement door…how did he expect to face the scariest monster he had ever seen? After a deep breath the boy began to count down, “One…two…three." He pulled the door open and flinching immediately before shutting it back and sinking to the floor. Jeffery hugged his knees and sniffled, “I can’t do anything right…"

—;➳}— Tiny footsteps were what caused Hayden to peek around the corner of the basement wall, not yet appearing to whomever it may be. With curious eyes, Hayden peered into the darkness and strained her ears, listening to any clues that might alert her to who was in the basement with her. It had been so long since anyone had come down to the basement - anyone living that is. Hearing a little sniffle and a small, child’s voice, Hayden’s eyebrows shot towards her hairline and she took a few more steps forward. She couldn’t believe her eyes - oh, her baby had come home to her, there he was - sitting with his face buried against his knees. Oh, my baby, she thought to herself. Without even really thinking about it, she blinked and was suddenly standing on the step below the young boy, crouching down beside him. “What’s wrong, sweetheart?" she asked him quietly.

Tate frowned. He was scaring the kid. He was kind of upset, but he knew that he kind of had that effect on people. He had murdered people, a lot of them. “I’m Tate. Your, uhm.. Sister’s friend.” He tried to make himself seem as welcoming as possible. Which wasn’t very welcoming.

He stood up. He had a few things to ask the kid. He was curious, of course.

Jeffery raised an eyebrow as he said that and tilted his head, "Oh, you haven't seen her...have you? I was looking for her awhile ago, but I can't find her. She must be really good at hide and seek." The small boy smiled gently up at the sandy blonde, and didn't feel so scared anymore. He loved is sister dearly so any friend of hers he trusted, it wasn't like he knew any of Tate's past crimes.

His soft blue eyes blinked a few times as he looked up at Tate and then frowned. "What?", he asked rather confused by the curious look on the teenager's face.

He remembered the night he was born, the chaos that came from it all. No. He could mess everything up again. Things were just starting to settle down and so soon it could all be messed up again because of one little kid. “You’re Jeffery Harmon?” the boy said in an apathetic tone, his voice was one thing but his face another. His features showed nothing more than a look of utter fear and maybe a hint of disgust. That night.. how he’d tried to bleach away the memory of it. But no matter how much he tried it would never go, he could try to rid of it for an eternity and he’d never be able to wash it away or even fade it. What’s his name? So, he didn’t know the story.. no, of course not, why would he? Even if he knew he wouldn’t understand everything that would hide behind the empty words. That Tate was the reason his mother was dead and that he had to be a bastard of sorts. “That’s not important,” he snapped back instead of answering him. Tate rose to his feet then, and began to pace about the room, he had to think and think hard.. what if Vivian found him? What would she do? She would most likely want to keep him here, shit, the bitch was crazy - or crazier ever since her death. She had grown obsessed with getting her kid back, what if she killed him to keep him here? With a hand running through his hair, as if trying to calm his frenzied mind he began to speak. “You need to get out of here.. you need to go home, alright Jeffery?” The sandy haired boy was trying to calm himself, but even a deaf man would be able to sense the panic that was consuming his voice, and his body. The familiarities all made sense now, the hair, the eyes, the shape of his profile; a Harmon. It sent a shiver up the dead boys spine at the mere thought of it, no, they couldn’t know he was here and they couldn’t know that Tate was the one making him leave once more. “If you see anyone in the house, don’t talk to them..” But he didn’t bother finishing his statement before he took a hold of him and stood him up, dragging him toward the door of the office the strong hold still on the young boys arm. “Why would you even come to this fucking house?” Control yourself Langdon.. but there was no point.

"No. That isn't my last name...I don't understand.", Jeffery looked at the sandy blonde with confusion and fear strongly showing. He didn't like being called that, it made what his Mother told him sting worse about not being her son. The unknowing Harmon didn't understand that when Constance said that she wasn't saying it because she hated him, but simply saying the truth to hurt him. A concept he couldn't understand at this age, and this sure wasn't helping at all, he didn't know this boy at all,yet here the teenager was spitting out all kinds of confusing and strange things. As he mentioned his name not being of importance the child glanced off to the side as the confusion became over whelming, and it felt as if at any moment his nine year old mind would crack under the pressure. His fear and rage were both battling to be the dominate emotion, but in the end as always fear was the victor of his life. Jeffery's expression turned from confusion to full on fear, much like when Constance scolded him. His brain was starting to give out as the teenager himself seemed almost hurt and frustrated, but why? His existence had no importance,so why was this teenager so afraid of what might happen? He had no idea of the hell he could cause in this house, he simply wanted to escape the cruelty of his Mother and possibly mange to talk to someone now and again because even he could feel his sadness and loneliness growing in his heart. He did his best not to show it, but for the most part his sadness was turning to rage and that rage into fear. He was nothing more than a scared and helpless child looking up at Tate, and he couldn't stop the whimper that escaped his lips. As he spoke of home the child's tears started to swell up in the corner of his eyes for he knew his home wasn't safe, he knew he would get in trouble and locked away if he was to go across the street to the place he called home, but he could run away. He used his sleeve to wipe away the almost tears as he choked out, "O-okay." The gentle blue watery eyes watched Tate go into panic mode, and Jeffery knew for a fact he wasn't calm. At those words he shook his head, "I-I already have talked to people...they didn't seem s-so bad. They were really nice actually." His naive answer was true, at least to him. Nobody had even yelled at him, but now this mysterious teenager was. Jeffery's body tensed up as he grabbed a hold of him, a painful flood of memories hit him and he couldn't hold back his tears for a moment more. The innocent steam of clear fluid ran down his face as all he could think about was Constance at the question his words weren't gentle anymore they were angry and fully of sadness, "To get away from my Mother...Constance."

Tate looked down at this young boy, confused. Who was this kid? He had no idea how long it’d been since the Harmon ordeal. He knew this kid wasn’t new, he’d seen him around the house. He just didn’t know who he was.

“Hello,” He said, kneeling down to be eye level with the boy. Suddenly, he knew. This was Jeffery, Ben’s kid. How long had it been? Clearly a very long time. Was Nora still caring for him?

Jeffery's blue eyes were suddenly filled with fear as the teenager bent down, he wasn't overly sure of what the blonde wanted or if he wanted to hurt him. He would have taken a large step back, but that would cause him to go tumbling down the steps into the basement, and he really didn't want that. "Who are you?", he asked  in a shaken voice as he glanced back at the steps to the basement. The teenager was obviously blocking his path, but the child had no idea how to go about asking the stranger to move in fear that he might upset him.

“H-huh? No that isn’t my name miss…uhm…you never told me your name, but my full name is Jeffery Langdon. I don’t think I know a Harmon…”, he admitted as he gave the older stranger a puzzled look. Harmon sounded familiar, but he couldn’t put his finger on it so he decided to just drop the subject as if it was just an honest mistake. The young boy turned his head back to the door for a brief moment questioning if this woman wanted to hurt him, after all wasn’t he told to NOT talk to strangers? His gentle blue eyes drifted back to Hayden as he returned a sheepish smile. At her words though the child’s smile faded as he began to twiddle with his fingers, “I am not sure…Mother just always tells me that. I guess i’m bad luck?” He took a seat in front of her on the floor as he decided she really didn’t seem dangerous.

I’m sorry.” a brow raises, curiosity resting against her facade of a broken face. “Don’t wanna pry into your family business or anything, but do you live next door — with Constance?” If, she’s still alive. That woman seemed like she was never going to fucking die, or get murdered. Hayden watches the young boy’s movement, smile still against her lips. “No, I don’t think you are. Is she always busy? That might be why she says that, which is kinda fucked up. You shouldn’t say that kind of stuff to your children.” Shaking her head, it soon cants to the side, giggling at Jeffery. “How old are you?”

"It is okay.", he responded as a genuine smile spread across his face as he watched the older woman carefully. He nodded, "Y-yeah. How did you know?" At the mention of Constance he couldn't help but let a small whimper escape his lips, that woman was by far the scariest thing Jeffery had ever come in contact with. "Busy...yeah...with my brother I guess.", he said with jealousy practically dripping off the words. He wanted the blonde's acceptance, but he knew it was a pointless struggle so he had been slowly giving up and trying to stay quiet, it wasn't that hard for him. As she spoke sweetly to him Jeffery smiled softly then replied gently, "You sound like a good Mom, and I am nine" The child spoke the number and held up nine fingers just to get his point across.

  —— { [ ☣ ] } ;;              ”I liked it,” he spoke with a cold tone, and his features were that of stone. He wasn’t sure why, that was just the way he was these days and nights. There was no explanation behind it, it was just him and that was that. He handed the paper back when the boy mentioned that he could try and draw another, and he let his eyes follow the blue crayon as it moved along the imperfections of the page. He watched each line, and each curve that the small boy formed to create the bird. Through it all the dead boy didn’t stop and wonder what this young boy could be doing here. Live humans came into the house all the time, after hearing the stories they became curious and wanted to make sure if they were all true. However this boy seemed a bit too young to be wandering here alone. “Because I like birds, they can fly,” Tate didn’t bother furthering his explanation  even though there was much more to it than that. He liked that birds could fly away when things got too complicated. The boy would be happy with just being able to escape the noise of the house, but he no longer held that privilege. Tate took a seat beside the child when he mentioned being done with the drawing. Taking it in his hand, he nodded his head in approval, “This one is good,” he said as he folded the paper in half, carefully pressing down on the edges before he placed it in his pocket, patting it to make sure it was still there. The sandy haired boy let a small smile take over his features as he stared down from his upright sitting position. After patting his pocket once more, he began to mess with the laces of his trainers. “Why are you here?” he asked finally, the question that had been sitting at the tip of his tongue all this time. One thing that interested him was how much this young child reminded him of someone. His face seemed so familiar, even though he was sure he’d never seen him before in his entire existence - he chose to stay away from the word life. And yet he couldn’t help but get the feeling that he’d seen him somewhere, the dirty colour of his hair, and the soft colour of his hues.. but where.. “Violet..” the thought seeming to come out of no where. He reminded him of Violet.. no, there was no way this was the child of Ben and Vivian.. could he be? “And what’s your name?” this time his voice was low, and there was even a sort of stutter. The wait for the answer causing his heart to beat like crazy.

Feeling a little uncomfortable at the closeness of the blonde he scooted over a little as the teen took a seat at his side. The child smiled a little bit at him as he said it was good, it was such a rare thing for the young boy to hear praise. Even if it was coming from the second scariest thing he had ever seen...Constance being the first one on that rating. Something about the blonde reminded him of his mock Mother, but that was just another coincidence. Jeffery watched the boy fiddle with the laces and looked a little distressed by the question, "O-oh, I am hiding from my Mother...she is on one of her rampages today. She must be upset about my brother…" He began to fiddle with his fingers nervously as the thoughts of Constance flooded his memory, and the very thought of that woman was enough to make him shake. He knew he was a big scaredy cat and he also knew that he was weak compared to his strong and picture perfect brother, he would never compete so he stopped trying. Sure, he would like some attention now and again, but it always came to him in a negative way so he had decided the best way to get his wicked fake Mother to love him would be to stay quiet and out of the way. It wasn't long until he noticed the boy examining him as if he was trying to match up two things and the child got a glint of fear in his gentle eyes. As the teen spit out the question Jeffery looked at him wondering if he should tell him the truth, it was a rather quick change in tone and it was something the child didn't understand. There were a lot of things he didn't understand about this house, the main one being Constance's lie about nobody being in this house. He had indeed met a girl upstairs not that long ago, so why would the blonde woman tell him different? Another thing he didn't understand is why people seemed afraid to know his name, maybe it was a bad luck name he figured. That was always his childish logic,that he was just super unlucky at this twisted game of life. After a moment of careful consideration he glanced off to the side hesitating his answer before turning back to the blonde, "J-jeffery?" The dark haired boy flinched as he managed to choke out his question, "W-what about your name mister?"

The young boy sat on the first stair that lead into the basement and swallowed hard as his blue eyes scanned the darkness. He was afraid of the darkness and afraid of most things that came with this house from the noises to the random people in it. The child had never been in the basement though, but after he heard a small noise he let out a soft frightened whimper. It wasn't going to happen for him, or at least not today that was for sure. He stood up and brushed off then turned to walk off only to find himself bumped into a tall mysterious blonde teenager. Jeffery let out a yelp and jumped practically out of his skin, once he managed to catch his breath he looked up at the teenager shaking, "H-hello?"

✖ ——;              Jeffery — Jeffery? “Harmon? Jeffery Harmon?” Oh, her mind quickly fills up with plans of corruption. Vivien wouldn’t be so pleased with her encounter on the little boy. It hit her, Vivien had two kids — whilst Hayden’s dead womb still torments in her everyday. Was this her chance to act like a mother; seemed so. Hand still beckoning him over, a small smile rests itself against her drained features. “You seem like a sweet little boy.” Her voice is calming, no longer covered in her crabbiness. “Why would you be in the way?”

A small smile twitches at the tips of the dead girl’s mouth. “You’re a cutie — what’s your name?” Hayden doesn’t realize he’s a Harmon, not yet, at least. “Not busy, just cranky; you’re fine. Come here.” It’s a small coo, hand motioning the boy to come over. “What are you doing here?”

The small boy moved his head down a little as he looked up at the woman with his blue eyes full of fear, but started to calm down as her tone became a lot less harsh. "Oh, uh it is Jeffery.", he spit out as he stopped cowering and noticed the woman sounded a lot more friendly now. Cranky was right, but talk about harsh...he would hate to find out which person ticked her off on a bad day. He hadn't figured out who his mother really was or even really who he was completely,so he had no hard feelings towards his mother's nightmare. He carefully walked over to the dark haired beauty and tilted his head a little, "Staying out of the way and trying not to get into anymore trouble..."

Tate had been watching the boy for a while now. He’d aged a lot quicker mind you than most children. “You know you were meant to be Nora’s” He said from a corner of the child’s room. Arms crossed, eyes dark Tate would be menacing to anyone, let alone a small child.  ”Vivian took you from her” He added taking a step forward.

Jeffery looked up at the blonde and raised an eyebrow, "I don't think she likes me very much...she always calls me weak." Tate didn't look happy at all, and that made the small boy nervous as he took a step backwards. He could go running to Violet about this, but he decided he should maybe try to shake off Tate himself, after all the blonde boy could easily beat him up for ratting him out to his sister. The small boy tried to scrape up some courage, "Why are you really here? I am sure you aren't here just to pick on me."

 —— { [ ☣ ] } ;;            The hose was quiet, even quieter than usual and that was something that the dead boy enjoyed. He hated when it was too loud, and he hated when the dead children would scream at him to play, when he’d made it obviously countless times that he would never do such a thing. But today, this day, was different. He felt a sudden warmth within him, something he hadn’t felt in perhaps what had been years. So as he walked along the house, his footsteps echoing along the hardwood floors, old and smelling of mould, he could feel his still beating heart leaping at a sudden joy. He wasn’t sure what it was, but he didn’t dare question it. But he blamed it on the quiet, it always put him in a better mood, not to mention he’d actually left the basement today, that damn basement. It felt like more of a prison than anything else in this bloody house, but he was always scared of leaving it, it might be a prison, but it was also a sanctuary. With his mind busy in thought he hadn’t realised that he had ended up in the upper section of the mansion. Where Violets room was located, where the bathroom he’d saved her in was located, and Ben’s office.. Ben, he wondered if he was there. The man and the boy hadn’t left off on a good note, but it would be a lie for him to say he didn’t miss the teasing company that came when talking to such a pathetic being. So with a devilish grin spread upon his features, he walked along until he made it to the room that used to be the office of Ben Harmon. But once he entered he noticed a boy upon the floor, and he quickly made himself vanish so that he couldn’t be seen by his hues.

   The blonde haired boys eyes narrowed as he looked him over. He was drawing on a piece of paper, in blue.. he liked that colour. He also seemed to be drawing what seemed to be a bird, and that caused him to tilt his head for a better look, a sort of smile spreading upon his features, though it quickly fell to a scowl when it was crumbled before him. He let himself appear then, and he continued to look down at the boy. Then the child’s eyes met Tate’s, and he noticed a sort of fear before him. “Why did you do that?” he asked in a voice of apathy and a face of nothing but harsh winds. He leaned down and picked up the paper, uncrumbling it, and then placing it flat against his chest to smooth out the remainder of the wrinkles. With his nail he began to scratch at the x that had been drawn over the bird, the boys lips forming a tight smirk as he continued on with the impossible task of removing it. “Can you draw it again?” oh the fowl sort of innocence that could sometimes be found within him was such an amusing thing. But he was asking out of pure curiosity, and the want for a picture. He liked birds, and envied them all at once. They had the ability to escape, whilst he was stuck in his cage forever.

The first thing the darker haired boy noticed was how this young man in a way reminded him of his twin brother, but that had to be a coincidence. This blonde didn't look happy and that made Jeffery nervous, he wasn't exactly good with pressure. For the most part he was a quiet and shy boy, much unlike his rowdy and dangerous brother. At the question his soft blue eyes blinked slowly, "I didn't think it was very good..." He watched the older boy's actions carefully as he bent down and began to attempt to remove what the child had done. "Uhm, yeah I guess I can try? C-could you even tell what it was?", he asked in a very soft voice. His eyes drifted back to the crayon and looked it over before turning his head back up to the mysterious blonde. The child smiled softly at Tate as he started to relax a bit more, but still something about all of this seemed off. From what he remembered his fake mother had told him nobody lived here, and he had heard the stories from that one tour that drove by. He remembered sitting in the front yard and listening to the stories with his brother before Constance got angry about it and forced Michael back inside. Jeffery had never been one to get much attention from the blonde woman so he was often left where he was instead of being dragged along. Always in his brothers shadow, and forever trying to get a little attention from the woman who claimed to be his mother even if he look absolutely nothing like her or Michael for that matter. He just considered that another one of his unlucky qualities. 

Once he received the paper back from the teenager he began to draw another bird on the back of the crumbled paper. "How come you want me to draw a bird?", Jeffery asked in almost a whisper. A gentle voice that was often drown out by his twin brother, but for once he could hear it very clearly. He sighed softly at the thought of how weak and pathetic he must look to the tall blonde boy. He blinked a few times as the thought registered in his head, he didn't even know who he was and why he was here, but then again why should the young boy care? This wasn't his house, in fact he had been told many times to never come here. Well, not exactly him...more Michael, but Jeffery liked to pretend that Constance talked to him as well sometimes. Once he was done he stood up and presented his childish creation to the teenager and smiled a kind of crooked smile before speaking, "I am sorry it isn't very good..." He didn't expect approval or anything really, in fact he expected the teenager to simply take the picture and walk away. Who would want to spend time with a little pathetic boy? Jeffery had pretty much given up on the fact of talking to people for a long period of time or having a friend. It was pretty much a foreign concept, right next to having a loving mother that is. The darker haired child began to rub his arm slightly as a sheepish grin sprawled across his face.
